  1. Ref: Mike Walker

Please dont forget that he inherited a team which had been developed and nutured by Ken Brown and then Dave Stringer - a large part of that team had come through the youth system and they were a one off. Walker clearly had greater tactical awareness and was also not scared to use subs before the half time whistle - certainly there are elements of his management which we need today. However his undoing in the second term in office was his inability to maintain discipline eventually he lost control of the situation - we could consider him in a coaching role though?

  2. Certainly looks like the 4 5 1 is the only way to bring confidence back into the defence - Palace have 3 key players in their midfield  Kolkka, Hughes and Riihilahti.
Southampton took a gamble and played a couple of youth players a few weeks back - now one of the them Dexter Woodstock is their top scorer with 5 goals - I would consider trying Ryan Jarvis up front.

When you look at nearly all the teams in the prem they have 2-3 old hands (experienced campaigners) to motivate and lead the less experienced youngsters on- here I think Norwich have a problem.

Apart from Simon Charlton and "maybe" Matt Svensson- we dont have any players with recent prem experience - the Scandi''s we bought in have never played English football so are taking a very long time to adjust, Aki Riihilahti has already been at Palace for 2-3 seasons so he knows the style and pace of football. I would also consider giving the captains armband to a stronger more experienced motivator - (if we have one?).

  3. I tend to agree on some of these last points - However I WOULD NOT remove Worthy - he is the right man for the job and we need stability - however I would take a close look at Foley and Livermore - we need a 1st team coach with good tactical ability and motivational skills - I am sure tthere are some good coaches out there ready to take on the challenge of the premiership. Alot of these smaller teams like Portsmouth etc have got very experienced coaches.

  4. 3 down - getting worse - just heard that members of the yellow army leaving the ground with 15 minutes to go - i dont see where we can go from here other than the bottom of the league - Swindons record is under severe threat. If the management team do not change the team starting next week then we have to say that they are incompetent for the job.

  5. Agreed - as soon as i heard that the team is the same I said here we go again..... that first half performance was rubbish - no possession in midfield - cannot string two passes together - Neil ádams said the defence is playing like schoolboys - where do we go from here - a major rocket and changes needed at half time.

Get holt off (replace with mulryan) get jonson off (replace with bentley) next game replace drury with charlton and put a shackell in the middle.

  6. Fully agree northerner - although you are not as far north as me... Lets hope that the board and management would take a similar approach - right from the the summer there has been an air of resignation from the people at the top - this has to stop right away as it effects the players and fans. I agree with another poster that we probably have as much talent as Palace right now - but we are missing a game plan, good man marking, good passing and also self belief - I am afraid the only ones that can improve that is the coaching staff and the players.

  7. Its the boards negative conotations that I am having a go at. You should never go into battle with your leaders already publicly fearing the worst - thats the oldest lesson in the book. I agree the buck stops with the coaching staff - and I mean them as a team - Foley and Livermore have just as much say as Worthy - infact I often think when watching them in the dugout that its Foley who is working the tactics, I sit right behind the dugout and can see and hear whats going on - often not alot.

  8. I agree pretty much with your team selection Stevenage. I certainly think alot of our goals have been conceded down drury''s side this season and clearly Holt and Francis are too similar in their style - neither are playmakers. What really concerns me is the man marking and massive voids that appear between our defence and midfield. When watching other teams in the prem including a magic palace tonight - they close down any gaps and get men behind the ball - then they move out quickly from defence as a team with crisp, accurate passing. Until we can start to do that I am afraid it wont matter too much who we put in the starting squad - the end result will be similar. The tactics and style has to improve and the belief needs to return - the ways it looks right now we are heading for meltdown.

  9. Just saw Palace hold the arsenal to a 1-1 draw - these boys are flying - they defend well with excellent man marking, they get men behind the ball, their midfield can fight, win and then pass the ball and they have johnson up front who is on fire. Overall they work and move up the field as a team. The two Finns Rihilahti and Kolkka make our Swede (Jonson) and Dane (Helveg) look like jokers. They are playing with passion and dont give any respect to their opposition. Our players show too much respect, they stand off and allow huge gaps between the defence and midfield for players like Dickov to run riot in. I am sorry but unless we really start to man mark better and also sharpen the passing we are going straight down. Forget the transfer window - it will be too late by then - the next 5-6 games will decide our fate, wait till January and we have missed the boat. I got the impression already in the summer that the board had one eye stell on the 1st division and they often referred to lets do a Charlton - this means that we need to go down again, regroup - and have another go with more money in the wallet. Bunch of defeatists.

  10. The coaching staff have to put their hands up and admit that they made a terrible substitution. I agreed with taking Jonson off but Mcveigh should of taken his position and Mulryan should of been bought on as a playmaker. I am not asking for heads to role - but they should admit they messed up. We need more playmaking in the centre of the park and that means safri or mulryan in for holt of francis.

  11. For hendo - he had too little time to make an impact, if he can show the lightening speed and skill that bellamy showed at his age then we are onto another winner. I feel he needs to build up his body strength more - he still looks a bit too light weight - more work outs in the gym needed.

Brennan filled in the position very well considering he had not played at the top level this season - once Drury is back though.....

  12. Ncfcprem

Points taken - but seems Helveg had not been in first team action in series A for quite a while - would that indicate he was not upto it or was he injured? it was quite a coup for Norwich City to get such an international superstar player so cheaply in the twilight of his career. He is an excellent shielder of the ball and showed some good tackling skills - but his speed and distribution is very suspect - the speed I can understand from the slow boring pace of series A but the distribution is awful - wonder if he is colour blind?

Jonson - I think enough has been said on other postings - we are all entitled to our opinions as loyal supporters (I am one that flies back to Norwich for a large amount of the home games from Finland). Seeing the young lad flood playing from Man C last night - which would be a better return on investment. Jonson already getting on a bit.

Svensson - as said he has a proven track record in the 1st division - and last night he put himself about as also in the Everton game which helped lift the rest of the team - hope that he can turn that effort into some goals soon.

Overall it was an excellent point - and lady luck turned our way - as Worthy said today - maybe we have turned the corner now and all those efforts that have hit the posts will be going in from now!

  13. I know its not good to be critical towards individual players - but we have to admit the facts that at this level (yes the best league in the world) teams cannot afford to carry passengers for the ride. I cannot fault Jonsons effort - but he really just looks out of it on the right side - many occasions Svensson was having to come over to the right to win the ball. Jonson didnt win a single ball in the air or on the ground, when he did get possession he gave the ball away with a poor cross or pass. Yes tonight their were some other less than star performances - but if certain players under perform week in week out - then I am sorry but we wont survive if we continue to play them and hope they might come good some sunny day. The right wing wing has been a problem for us for several seasons - the great dane Steeno has never been replaced - he was clearly one of the best crossers our club has seen. Sorry there is no room for sentiment in this league - Jonson out and try little mcveigh again.

  14. I agree second half Svensson lifted the team and put himself about - much like when he came on against Everton. Seems Huckerby was totally played out of the game - have not seen him so quiet in a Norwich shirt. Think there will need to be a fe changes again for Saturday.
