It was a very well executed goal and agree it seemed similar to the Emi - Teemu connection - with a good CDM yo plug the hole infront of the CBs and Sarg, Sainz and Rowe marauding forward we should becoming a serious force once the CDM is signed and upto speed

Somewhere in his post match interview Wagner said he chose to set up to win the match - yesterday he clearly set up not to lose the match - there is a distinct difference and it really smelt of Houghton tactics yesterday

Apart from QPR I’m not confident of wins from that lot. 4/6 points at a push but who knows.
Draw, draw, Loss, draw, draw, win = 7 points

Just now, TheGunnShow said:We could also have had the crap countered out of us, like - most of this season. And the season before. And the season before that.
Hence the consistent calls of "when's a defensive midfielder coming in?"Certainly agree on the CDM urgency

When Sargent and Idah pressed high late on Southampton looked all at sea, we could of got a win if we had deployed a high press for larger amounts of the second half

No doubt we deliberately surrendered possession to Southampton (and whether that's ever a good approach at home is a valid argument), but I don't really remember that many nailed on chances for them. Even their goal came from arguably two mistakes from Kenny and Hanley.
They did hit the woodwork in the first half and a few clear headers and shots on goal, on another day they could of been 2-3 ahead at halftime

If you watched the same game I did we wear under heavy pressure for a majority of the time while we had 11 men. When we went down to 10 Wagner sacrificed any hope of attacking intent by bringing on defenders and parking the bus to keep it at 1. We did not exert anywhere near the level of pressure on the ball I would like to see higher up the pitch with 11 men. Our left back sauntered around the pitch like a Sunday league game, barely breaking sweat to try and recover or get back into position for how the side is set up without the ball.
Certain agree with the comment about the left back, Macallum is getting off lightly on this board tonight, he had an absolute shocker and was terrible in getting back and doing his main job which is defending the left side - his only saving grace was some great long throws into the box

Wagner went to have a chat with the ref after the game, the ref explained that Sainz raised a hand imitating a card and he had to book him - Wagner nodded and walked off - no appeals or protests , maybe the club fines Sainz
-
Wagner was just clarifying what happened with the sending off with the ref at the end, the ref indicated a card gesture and Wagner then agreed by nodding and walked off
-
Will be interesting to see if Sainz gets thrown under the bus now by Wagner or will he start again v Southampton?

Agree, but practically all of the threats have come from the right

1 minute ago, Branston Pickle said:Oh? What would you have done, make perfect decisions with hindsight, as ever?
The ref gave the right decision based on the rules, the mistake Wagner made was taking Barnes instead of Macallum who has been absolutely awful today
-
Macallum nearly blew it again, he has had an absolute mare today, Wagner should of hooked him HT

Dreadful decisions by Wagner yet agaim.
The weakness has been at LB today and Macallum should of been hooked not the two attackers , Kenny should of gone to LB and either Hanley or Bahtt to CB , crazy playing 5 at the back with no outlet

Wagner not looking for three points, then…..
And Barnes, Wagner looking to give three points to WBA
-
MaCallum getting caught out at the back constantly, doesn’t seem to be able to get back and no-one covering for him either, just like the first half at Portaloo Road. He either needs to buck his ideas up second half or get hooked and put kenny at LB and Hanley or Bahtt CB

Its still comes down to the extreme ease that teams can just slice through our open midfield (non existent) that is the core of our problems. Whether this is down to failed recruitment of a tettey or skipp on purpose under the game plan instructions of wagner and his rabble or was it just webber thinking he knows best? Clearly the club has no cdm of quality and until the gap is filled we will continue to be Jekyll and Hyde - if you try to force the game to the wings and leave the door open in the middle teams just sail through and the back 4 are then lost. Its very much down to wrong players and game plan - jan window will tell if the gaps will be filled and will wagner accept we need a proper cdm who cuts out the central attacks?
On a bright note, last night Sainz demonstrated a few glimpses of “dare I say it” Buendiaesk surges with the ball and a stunning goal with a great turn of pace. -

Is it only Wagner’s tactical incompetence or also his assistants? - ultimately its a coaching team and the quiet German sitting in the dugout Bühler doesn’t seem to provide much tactical input even if that’s his main role, and Hughes is just an angry loose cannon, as for Pèlach very hard to see any positive impact since he came in - so its not just Wagner its the lot of them. As we saw with Lambert - he was nothing without Culverhouse.

Blamed it on Hwang goin off saying we were good the first 30min but hwang went off after 16min, the team folds on any pressing, Jamal nearly scored on 29min with their first attempt and that rattled the team and they collapsed in 3 minutes to 2-2 , second half, nothing you can say other than utter rubbish, Wagner and his fellow clowns had no idea what to do - yes the players are poor but the coaches are even worse

1 minute ago, Ian said:That was a really worrying defeat.
The goal was coming for a very long time yet no changes were made to our style and patterns of play.
That’s because the manager and his assistants are tactically clueless idiots who have no realistic game plan other than play out from the back and down the wings - one trick pony which has well and truly run out of road - whole new coaching set up needed NOW
Jaden Warner; Off on loan?

They should send Macallum out with him, he totally lacks defensive awareness , he didn’t pick up the runner yesterday when Sainz failing to make the initial interception, the times he has been caught out of position and flailing at the back is crazy - we urgently need a new left back together with a CDM in this window - actually Macallum is probably better played on the left wing but not a defender
