Ive not read much about Rayners case.

Personally, I'm currently considering selling the only house I've ever owned. Because I haven't lived in it for many years, it seems I'm liable for CGT. As I want to use the proceeds to buy another house, this doesn't seem right. But the laws the law. Guess I'll need a lawyer 😧

No you don't need a lawyer. You need a qualified tax accountant. Send me a pm if you want an independent recommendation.

I'm very intrigued as to what the police are investigating.

The making a false claim thing seems unlikely as the time bar seems impossible but the GMP have reverse ferreted on an earlier decision not to investigate which presumably they did for some reason.

The fraud aspect will presumably be on a desk in HMRC so what is under investigation? Is it just police going through the motions because of public pressure or is there a third allegation on the table?

There is no evidence that HMRC is carrying out an investigation. All Rayner has to do is claim that the property in question was her main residence for CGT purposes and there is no tax offence. She has offered to publish her Tax Returns if the Tories do the same.

Bear in mind that HMRC won't comment publicly even if Rayner asks them to.

I think you're right to be intrigued by the police investigation. Have they really been asked to investigate a 'crime' that is time barred from prosecution?

All Conservative voters should be forced to watch every interview with Liz Truss as she hawks her book.

I'm listening to her on 5Live at the moment. My God.

Edit A friend has just said that Truss sounds just like Delia on the radio. There is a resemblance but Delia is obviously the better politician

  4. I think Palmer is more than good enough to play for England but how you would fit him in the team is another matter.

In 1966, England had probably the world's best goalscorer in Jimmy Greaves but he was left out because the team as a whole were better without him. Perhaps it's time that Kane is left out? Or perhaps play him behind Palmer?

I'd also agree with the views above about the current crop of England players. They're the best for 50 years and Bellingham will probably end up being the best ever. I watched Anthony Gordon against Spurs and he was so good even Saka can't be sure of his England place.

  5. Very sad. The Knott Underwood combination was excellent.

Time for an awful admission. I watched test cricket a lot in the late 60's/early 70's when Underwood was regularly referred to as the night watchman. As a 9 or 10 year old I assumed he was some sort of security guard and felt sorry for him having to work all night and play cricket as well.

The Rayner story is a conflicting one. Compared to the epic and obvious corruption and tax dodging of the scumbags pushing the story it is very trivial. But she does attack a lot and will get people wanting to find out if she is a hypocrite. It needs to be Investigated to kill or cure.

I like her and love a working class person giving the posh boys a kicking but she should have cleared this up a while ago. Let's hope it's a Daily Mail loss but we'll have to wait and see.

I doubt Starmer is overly bothered, in fact he may be glad to see the back of her.

But if she nominated the house in question as her main residence for CGT purposes then there are no tax implications. She has made it quite clear there is no tax due.

Using that address on electoral papers is no big deal really. She owned the property and no one else lived there. Bearing in mind that her children are escorted to school by the police every day she may claim to have done it for security reasons. The thing that annoys me is that the time limit for prosecuting the offence she is alleged to have committed has long passed. The Conservative Party know that full well but have still asked the police to investigate a crime for which they are unable to prosecute. What a ridiculous waste of time and resources.

But as others have pointed out, if you live in a greenhouse you really shouldn't throw stones. I doubt she's done much, if anything, wrong but I'm sure there'll be much more of this sort of thing. We know there are some extremely dubious people in the Conservative Party and I'd be surprised if there weren't a few on the other side of the fence. We've probably got a few months left of this sort of nonsense which pretty much sums up the state of the country at the moment. Very depressing.

    Earliest might be this Sat

Depends on if we want to overhaul WBA

I'm sure a few will be monitored/rested, Sargeant, Rowe, Nunez, Duffy

Mostly it will be a game at a time, see how the players are

Unfortunately due to the intense pressure of games and training players are suffering far more injuries*, that's why there has been a move to allow 5 subs

    * Gibbs

Coventry can still get 75 points and aren't playing on Saturday due to the FA Cup. I think the earliest we can confirm the play offs is Wednesday 24 April when Coventry play Hull.

If Wagner has any sense he will immediately rest all the attacking players with the exception of Rowe.

I don’t normally do negative but we need to replace him. He’s just not good enough at defending, which is the most important aspect of his role. Maybe it can be coached, but I would have thought if it was possible, it would have been done by now.

Quite agree. He was all over the place yesterday.

This is not just a simple crime, though, is it? This is mass, indiscriminate and horror killing in assessed populated areas, shopping centres and entertainment venues etc.

London Bridge, the Barbican, Paris etc.  They are piling up with appalling consistency.

There is a pattern of machetes, deadly weapons and bombs. If it's not a disturbing trend with you, then it is with me.

Australia is not the US where all sorts of weaponised screwballs abound, often targetting schools.

Let's wait until the attacker's identity is revealed, eh?

So you're OK with white people who kill a lot of people but when someone comes along who isn't white you have a problem?

I'm afraid that history tells us that white people kill more than non white people. That's an unarguable statistic. I'm truly sorry for you if you don't quite get that.

I didn't bother at the time given it'd be unwelcome to the preferred narratives around here, but seeing as you mention it, a mother was stabbed to death on a street in broad daylight pushing her child in a pram last week in Bradford.

I struggle to see the relevance. Those of Asian descent commit less crime per head in the UK than the indigenous population.

Although obviously when they do they get on the front page of the Daily Mail.

    Since privatisation maybe?

Sorry, I should have said that this was 7 years ago. The main problem was bullying to a frightening degree.

Having spoken to my postman recently he thinks that local management is over promoted and can't cope. That's his opinion, I have no idea if he's right, BUT they have no direct entry management scheme so local management compromises postmen/women who are no longer capable of walking a delivery round.

They're a bit like the police used to be in that the people in management/investigation roles are only recruited from the PC employees.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the job hunting. Don't come work for royal mail though. I doubt you'll like it. They currently have an 85% turnover for new starters!

I know a mental health nurse in Norwich who told me that the worst employer in Norwich for mental health is the Royal Mail. Why on earth is that?
