1.
That''s an interesting post Dylan. I''ve thought the same myself but never really felt confident enough in the subject to post. I can see that offsetting his other company''s profits against Ipswich''s losses would reduce the clubs losses by, say 20%, but the remaining 80% loss still has to be funded.

Now that the opportunity to make a quick buck through instant promotion has long passed I don''t understand why he keeps putting in around £5 million a year. I can''t see an scenario where can ever get that money back.
I haven''t looked at the accounts in detail but I understand that the losses are predominantly interest on his loan. That interest is paid to another Evans company then goes in a circle back to the club to increase the loan. If that is the case it is little more than a paper transaction, possibly for tax purposes. Little more than conjecture on my part but I don''t think there''s much doubt what his intentions were initially. Thank God he bought their club and not ours!

But never mind here''s the sound of a penny dropping to entertain you all

"That was really interesting. I think it''s been mentioned a

few times by a couple of different posters about the possibility of

using the club to offset his other businesses for tax purposes? Questioning whether he really wanted to be successful. Some baffling football and business decisions. Those that thought it was no accident that the club is in the mess it''s in"     TWTD

    Possibility ! ! !

I don''t know much about most things but I know a lot about tax. There is no advantage to Marcus Evans in Ipswich Town making a loss. If the losses are available to be set against profits made by other companies owned by Evans, those companies would get relief at 20%. No one in their right mind would lose £1m to get back £200 in tax. You would still be £800k out of pocket.

Evans bought a £30m debt from Aviva for £7m. That meant that ITFC owed Evans £30m for a debt he had bought for £7m. Initially he threw some more money at the club hoping for a quick promotion and the money from Sky which he could have drawn out of the club in repayment of his debt. A very quick profit of £23m and a debt free club to sell. It would have been a brilliant investment if they had been promoted.....

  3. Goals are rarely scored from crosses these days as teams have become more skilled at defending them.

The reason that we don''t score as many goals as we used to is that we take so long to move the ball from one end of the pitch to the other. Even Manchester City rely on quick incisive passing for most of their goals.

  4. Never say never. When I first went to Carrow Road 50 years ago 11,000 attendances were commonplace. Okay the population was lower then but so were prices and it was pay on the gate. And when we were top of the Premier league in the early 1990''s we would sometimes struggle to get 20,000.

You only need to see what can happen when a club appoints the wrong manager. Thank God we appointed Lambert when we did or things might be much different

  5.
The urban population of Ipswich is 130, 000 odd thousand.

    Norwich, I believe is 213, 000.

That''s quite a bigger catchment area.

Plus we have mopped up the fringe areas, especially Lowestoft and Stowmarket, I believe, and partly due to our PL involvement.

Our attendances will never sink that low. 9, 500 will never be seen at CR, imo, in a Championship game at least.

In addition, Daniel Farke seems well liked and the football and results are getting better.
The populations of Norfolk and Suffolk are virtually identical and we are talking about county clubs here. Neil Doncaster was a disaster in many ways but the action he took with Football in the Community and kids for a quid have benefitted the club hugely. As has the reasonable pricing structure and monthly instalment arrangements. Quite simply, Norwich has been a better run club than Ipswich.

Bear in mind as well that their manager has a poor reputation for his style of football and the owner is a more hated man than Robert Chase. The supporters here ran Chase out of the club but Ipswich fans just seem to stay at home and put up with it.

Most of the history lessons on TWTD are laughable but most of their supporters can remember a very good George Burley team playing great passing football.

If any of this makes it sound like I feel sorry for them then think again. I don''t. I''m loving it.

  6. From Wikipedia

As for the most aggressive atmosphere that I’ve ever encountered, believe it or not it was at Carrow Road for Norwich v Ipswich Town. There are certain derby fixtures that you always know are going to be highly charged, but the East Anglian derby tops the lot. The players came out of the tunnel as if they were ready for a boxing match. The noise was intense and aggressive.

didn''t really outshine Vrancic at all last night.

First time I had seen him last night, so can''t say much other than what I saw.

Seems a typical Farke player really. Fairly comfortable on the ball, looking to link play. Didn''t see that he was looking to expand the game much whereas Vrancic will look to pick a longer pass.
I would have exected there t be a few few scouts, and interested partys. That is what their job is and there weren''t many games last night. We looked good in the second half, frustratingly good - as the Wolves chap pointed out. Huge amount of well controlled possession but little end productWe scored against the binners by direct play and a header. We scored against Wolves with a header from a corner ... the proceeded to play short corners. However by the second half we look to have ''mastered'' Wolves and you would think it was us seeing out a win.Talking of ex City players have any of the ''big'' names done well since we ''moved'' them on ?
Steve Bruce, Mike Phelan, Chris Sutton

    Apologies for no clicky link.

Apparently consideration is being given to close parts of the ground to save on stewarding costs. They have survived in the past by one big sale a year but the goalkeeper is the only one left who is worth anything.

The hatred towards MM on their forum is extraordinary. I know the football isn''t pretty but I think he''s done a remarkable job with the resources available

That is not the case here, and it may well be some of the proceeds will be spent this transfer window.
Ward was sold to Derby on orders from the bank. Unfortunately Robert Chase forgot to tell Gary Megson who was surprised Ward hadn''t shown up for training.
