  1. Taken a while to really settle. I was quite disappointed watching Dean Smith turn what was a sparkling, attacking flair player into an exhaustive central midfield slogger last season.

He definitely looks to have got a grip on the midfield now though. I'm not sure his long term destiny is there, as he tends to get overrun by anyone with longer legs, but there's no doubting there's a player there.

  2. I'm not sure of 'favourite' but a film that made an impression with me was The Northman from a few years back.

I really must keep a list of films to watch, whenever I find the time my mind goes blank.

Don't get me wrong, I was calling for him to be sacked back in November like most others on here. But the fact that he had players out during the period we struggled is a bit of a weird stick with which to beat him.

The stick is slightly more nuanced, I think. As I understand the stick, it was that despite having 3-4 players out who were vital to making his gameplan work, Wagner continued to deploy a system that made us look hopeless.

Maybe we are reaping the benefits of that commitment now, it's impossible to say. But it definitely seems to me that we would have been better off adapting our tactics until our big players came back as it most definitely wasn't working.

It actually seems similar to me to the above arguments over Farke and the lack of budget. Yes, it's a good point and must be factored in, but we were still trying the same things in game 38 as game 1. It's reasonable to suggest some manner of adaptation might have captured more than 6 wins.

  4. I said at the start of the season that it might be the first year all three promoted clubs come down, and all three relegated clubs go back up.

The Premier League is utterly broken and we're the ones that signalled the start of the decline.

  5. Wagner deserves a lot of credit for how we are currently playing.

Wagner also deserved questioning over not changing things up during the bad run, when we were missing 3-4 players vital to make the system work. There is something to be said for sticking with a system, however, now we can see clearly that without Sargent and (less so) Barnes + Sainz it was a busted flush.

Yesterday did feel like a turning point. Wagners criticism of the fans has seemingly got the majority pulling in the right direction again- avoid key injuries and the last 13 games could be wild.

Is his partner Brazilian? (Note *from* Brazil, not has a Brazilian)

Hoping she’s from Norfolk, like (I think) Onel’s girlfriend.

I believe she came over with him, so the best we can hope for is dual nationality of Brazil/ Norfolk

  7. I dare say he's another that looks better now that we seemed to have balanced attack & defence. Definitely a player for the opposition box instead of your own.

One of the biggest problems through the bad run (and even some of the not-so-bad runs) was that our players spent very little time in and around the opposition box. Lovely to see that coming around.

One of those McCallum fouls was, I presume, the one where he crossed the ball for Barnes's offside goal? That one was outside the box. Surprised he didn't bring it back for a free-kick when the flag went up, to be honest, but in those situations the offside call seems to trump the foul...

There was another one down the Barclay end where he was in a footrace with the defender. Got just inside the corner of the box and stuck his leg out to get contact.

It was a savvy little move and the sort of thing VAR gives regularly. No-go in the Championship though.

In a broad sense I didn't mind the ref. there were a few questionable offsides and no card for an NFL-style tackle late on, but generally stayed out of the way when he could.

The booing was directed specifically at the manager yet he managed to deflect and suggest that the crowd were booing the players.

Thing is, I don't think there's a difference 'twixt the two here. The booing may have been aimed at the manager, but it's very apparent that the players are firmly behind said manager. Therefore within the group, the booing is taken as an attack on the whole as opposed to just one individual.

I happen to think if the hostility was only felt by Wagner, he wouldn't have said what he said post-match; I think he saw his players hurting and reacted emotionally.

Would the seats at the Carra' be completely full on a similar promotion chasing night like Tuesday despite the cost of living crisis / travel difficulties etc. if there was no disconnect?

(That feels like a Nutty type provocation!)

See, this is where I keep coming back to with this disconnect thing. Seems to me the disconnect is shorthand for 'we don't think we're very good at the moment'

Regardless, a united front might just tip us over. I'm all for it.

When the fans couldn't be bothered to support earlier in the season they certainly stated it was down to Webber. They said he needed to go to improve things.

Well he did go, we've got injured players back and are considerably better on the pitch for it. But the same fans have continued to try and create some toxic environment and make it as difficult as possible for the players and manager to succeed.

God knows what the club is supposed to do. Every week post a "sorry we're mean and horrible" tweet? It's beyond me how soft football fans apparently are "we boooooo because we're DISILLUSIONED"

    "what are you disillusioned about?"

    "THE CLUB"

"Yeah but what about the club?"

    "The sporting director"

"But he's gone and been replaced..."

"Well the new one hasn't said anything!"

    "He spoke last week"

"....Ok smarty pants, well the owners then!"

    "They're changing too"

"....BUT NOT FAST ENOUGH FOR ME! ALSO BOO WAGNER SUBS!"

I would add to this the phenomena of stating that the club holds an 'us vs them' stance whilst holding an 'us vs them' stance.

This is what I've been trying to get my head around with this disconnect/ disillusionment thing. The parameters for the club solving the issues from their side seem to be simply impossible to fulfill. Meanwhile there is little to no interest in trying to build bridges from the other end.

All we ask, is that we have a manager who buys into the club, cares, has the players behind him and is capable of hitting at least Championship top 6. Unless it's the one we have already.

I imagine the supporters of other clubs find this behaviour among a section of our fanbase as completely bizarre. A team in form chasing down the playoffs and the fans boo. Really? I sat near the Wednesday fans when they came down and they were literally laughing at our support.

I did wonder what the Watford fans thought of the display yesterday. I can't imagine they even knew what the hostility was for.
