1.
Are there rules on this forum which dictate the subject matter, or indeed the frequency at which subjects may or may not appear?

I would have said that threads are subject to a natural selection process. The ones that repeat a subject will fail to attract replies and fast fall down the list and into oblivion, thereby not troubling those who may be annoyed by their existence.
Well, issue 1 would be the vague clickbait title "The anouncement". I thought it was going to be an inside scoop of the Technical Director ;)...and as everyone''s mentioned issue 2 would be that we don''t need yet another new thread on Neil Adams

  2. I think it depends how old you are. I''m 35 now, and was just leaving primary school when Joe Royle was in his Oldham heydays. Dennis Irwin, Earl Barrett, Paul Warhurst, Rick Holden, Mike Milligan, Neil Adams, etc etc. I could probably name their first 16 because they had so many good players. Players developed by Joe Royle.Royle''s Oldham got the the League Cup final, and the FA Cup semi-final in the same year, giving Man United one hell of a scare in the process. I''m not surprised Alex Ferguson rated him so highly. Then he won the FA Cup with Everton and took Man City up from league One back to the Premiership. I''m too young for his Barry Butler trophy winning days and NCFC Hall of Fame exploits, but it does seem everyone''s judging Joe Royle purely because he managed Ipswich. I think it''s solid appointment, crucially because he''s someone Neil Adams respects and will have to work closely with.

  3.
Are you f*cking mad?

He took the choice to release Malky and Iwan, we then ended up playing the the Doc up front and Simon Charlton at CB.

Hardly the bloke we need giving an input on transfers.
I take it you''ve never read Huckerby''s interview with Worthington, complete with the "don''t come to me at Christmas and tell me to buy Dean Ashton, when you told me we couldn''t afford him in the summer"............

  4.
Agree that Dora would be best as Chief Scout and help us develop international links. What about Asterix to develop the French network - although some consider his methods a bit old fashioned?
Currently under suspension after the drug squad investigated Getafix''s "Magic Potion"

  5.
Bethnal, if that is the case, and I don''t see how it makes sense otherwise, then the technical director will have to be someone with enough of a serious track record in football to be able to overrule or at least seriously question the manager. A senior figure perhaps too old for the day to day nonsense. But the latest job description from McNally rules that out and makes his idea of a TD sound like a glorified dogsbody:“We want him [Adams} to be concerned with the first-team coaching, the final say

on players in and players out. But the technical director will look

after those other important areas like conditioning, fitness, medical,

physio, sports science, sports analysis, academy, the infrastructure,

the training ground, players’ rest, relaxation, wellbeing, nutrition,

hydration – the list goes on."
I think it''s difficult to gauge. From some of the specific examples McNally gave, it sounded like Hughton was trying to do too much. I understood one as saying that Hughton had called him at 11pm on a Thursday night trying to sort a loan out for Cameron McGeehan to Luton, and McNally felt he should have been focusing on higher priorities.

  6. Whilst Pilkington is undoubtly a class player, he''s two footed, hits a mean free kick, strikes the ball well, is big, strong and good in the air, for me there''s a huge question mark over his fitness. Whether or not he''s got the athleticism now to play week in week out in the Premiership after all those niggling injuries. Especially with the Murphy brothers coming through, and hopefully E Bennett and Redmond staying, we wouldn''t want to be too stacked in the winger department. I can honestly see the club chosing not to extend his contract. It''s a shame with Wes, after we dropped into League One he was one of the few who chose to stay, even if his agent could have got him a move back to the Championship, and he''s a unique player. But you have to build a team around him, and he''s 32 now. He''s clearly looking a move that gives him better long term security, and McNally (like Chelsea) isn''t prepared to give him that. Such a shame that the memories of him are getting soured..

  7.
Dennis says what he means by that:"Norwich thought Mackay was stalling to see what other vacancies might become available..."Now the dust is settling a bit, with stuff such as Dennis'' piece coming out, there is a narrative that fits all the facts. That Mackay was the first choice, as the least worst candidate, with no obvious flaws, and was interviewed as such, and knew he was being interviewed as such. And this despite McNally having been not very complimentary about Mackay as a manager several months ago. So either McNally''s view had changed (partly because of circumstances) or he was persuaded by the other directors to drop his objections. But although Mackay was our first choice, we were not his. Not only was the West Brom job definitely available in the Premier League, and possibly the Southampton job as well, but -  he may well have guessed before it happened - so now was the Celtic job.So he stalled, and and the board were put in a difficult position. They could wait and hope Mackay found himself still jobless in a month or so. Not ideal because it would waste crucial itme. And if Mackay found a job, we would have wasted time for no reason. So, reluctantly, Mackay gets scrubbed and the other candidates, all with serious question-marks against them, move up the list. And Adams gets the nod.
Whilst Mackay, Adams and Zola were definitely in the running, I''m not convinced that Mackay was first choice.

  8.
JJ - what rumours?
Alleged bullying. In reality, Lambert was losing the dressing room, and Culverhouse was made the scapegoat. Says a lot about Villa that they do this to avoid compensation, tarring and feathering Culverhouse in the process. At any other club, he would have been quietly paid off.

  9. http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com/2014/05/22/the-wait-is-finally-over-neil-adams-is-the-man-with-attacking-attractive-and-winning-football-his-priority/Apologies if this has been posted before, but I couldn''t see a thread for it.Interesting comments about Mackay vs Adams and also " how he dealt with two undisclosed disciplinary issues within the squad."My money would be on RVW and Bassong

  10. When McNally sacked Gunn, he said it wasn''t about the 7-1 defeat, but reeled off a list of reasons about Gunn''s approaches to matches, from his tactical build up to his after match analysis. Presumably McNally feels Adams doesn''t have these flaws.

  11.

The club, as with scouting and ''drawing up targets'' etc is continuing as beforeThis has probably been the least disruptive re-appointment, as per Foley joining at virtually the same time that Adams was re appointed managerAs to competition then it is just as much the suitability of the manager as getting some ''name''.
Which brings me back to my original point. If your board had appointed him at christmas you would have caught us. Mel wasn''t backed, the Squad we had a rotton core now gladly departed. 90% of Baggies are upset that Mel never got a fair crack, because we could see what he trying to do. All your board had to say to Adams, when he was appointed is "have these 5 games plus next season" would there have been such a backlash as you''re seeing now? Boh Boards have made massive cock ups
Adams'' caretaker appointment was a desperation measure. We were doing ok after the Sunderland game, 7 points clear of the drop zone with 7 games to go. But we always knew with our dismal record against Fulham, and 4 horrendous games at the end, that we needed something from the West Brom game.We lost against West Brom, the fans were up in arms, and then board were forced to act.Presumably the board saw something in those last 5 games that impressed them, but before that he wasn''t a contender.

  12.
We may see, but there is a scenario that fits all the facts. That we had a shortlist and whoever was top - probably Mackay - was interviewd and offered the job, even if unofficially. Hence the Wyett tweet about the club hoping to be able to announce Mackay as manager shortly. But Mackay, knowing he had other options, played hard to get. Hence the deadline being missed and then Monday''s comment from Delia about it being complex. And since then either Mackay turned the job down or made it plain we were not top of his list, no matter where he stood on ours.
It''s possible, but I think McNally''s too much of a politician to have stated on Monday that they hadn''t offered the job to anyone if it wasn''t true. Though I can well believe Mackay was non-committal and trying to keep his options open. I wonder if every candidate on their shortlist had some kind of flaw that made it difficult to choose?

  13.
Let me see if I have this straight. Smith and Jones go public on Monday saying McNally is the most important person at the club and we couldn''t do without him etc. So on Thursday they overrule him to put him in a position where he pretty much has to resign. A bit convoluted. I prefer the simpler explanation that they all came to the sad conclusion that when they first choice or choices had turned them down they were left with Adams.
It''s a confusing one. I wonder if we ever get an explanation of Delia''s "it''s complex" comment, since appointing Adams was simple . Certainly McNally dodged the question "Do you have a preferred candidate?" by repeating "We have a shortlist". There was a pointed comment about attitude, so maybe he questioned the other candidates motivation. Mick Dennis is insistent that Neil Lennon was never considered.

  14. I would have thought the early search and appointment of a manager was so that we could try to keep key players to stick with us for another season. The Adams appointment seems to suggest they''ll just have a firesale instead. Whilst it was obvious RVW, Fer, Bassong etc were off, I thought we had a chance at keeping Howson, maybe even Hooper if we could appoint a quality, ambitious manager.I struggle to see how we will attract anyone to the club to play under Adams, and we''ll be left with his youth team!
