I'm excited - IF Wagner sets us up to play to our strengths (instead of his default trying to unsuccessfully park the proverbial bus against any team he views as a threat) then we stand a decent chance against any of the other three sides, none of whom are in dazzling form and all of whom have exploitable tactical flaws (much like ourselves.). Should be some exciting, nervy games across all five matches.

But that is a big if.

If you can't get excited about being in the playoffs - even if it leads to the masochistic delights of another season in the Premier League - then really just give it up.  The club needs it if we aren't to lose the players that currently make it worthwhile watching us in the Championship and really what else is there to look forward to ?

Thing is, he has absolutely no reason to set up like that. It really is **** or bust, in the league it's a different bottle of haddock...

Angus Gunn is clearly a very good goalkeeper and, like many in the position, has improved with age and experience. I do not actually think that he is as top-notch as some seem to think.

I also feel that the fee Southampton reportedly paid for him of around £13.5m will be the absolute limit of his worth. There were mutterings at the time that even the £9m we reportedly paid Saints for him was too much, and I was one of those who always preferred Krul when they were in direct competition at Carrow Road.

It has become a funny situation with 'keepers nowadays, with many Premier League clubs prepared to fork out multi-millions for even a back-up, so it is difficult to assess his worth should he want away before his contract ends. Personally, I do not think we'll get all our money back should he be transferrable for a fee rather than leave as a free agent. We might though.

I'm not so sure about his loyalty to the club and the area as some seem to be. He did after all leave City for a tribunal fee of £250, 000 chasing the big bucks in Manchester.

Citeh have made the most dosh from this player by far, whilst Southampton have made the biggest loss.

In ranking terms, I do not consider him to be the 'keeper his old man was, was inferior to Krul (at his peak) and would come a shout behind John Ruddy and may be a few other good 'uns we've had in the past.

For some reason, the goalkeeping position has always been a strong spot for Norwich City with few periods of exception ... Marshall, Green and even Fraser Forster spring to mind in the period between Gunn Snr. and John Ruddy, and going back in time, this theory stands up well.

For this reason, I conclude that if Angus wants away (again) then I would hope that we get our money back (would it need to be this Summer due to the contract situation?) I would then put faith in our stable of young 'keepers to fill the role. Barden seems to get better and better now that his illness is over and is reportedly back to his best (see Wagner's recent appraisal of the young man) whilst Reyes came to city with a big write-up, and these are not the only current contenders.

If Angus wants to stay, then it's fine with me unless his wages become prohibitive and a compromise cannot be reached and in that case we are best served by cashing in asap.

He would undoubtedly get a higher wage further up the ladder.

So much depends upon the outcome of those play-offs.

Whilst I don't disagree with all of this, i do think you are being a bit harsh on him, he is definitely lower half prem quality, but, where does your £9m that we paid for him come from? It was reported as "only" about £5m...

I’m surprised Villa voted against it. Am also surprised Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle and Spurs all voted in favour of it, considering they have super wealthy owners. I think 5 times what the bottom club earns in TV rights is still too much though - it should be brought down to 3

They might have super wealthy owners, but, I think a lot of the owners now are not in it for the status, rather they're there to try and make money, this will help them make money....

    Ipsquit to go up automatically?

Ipsquit to beat us in the playoff final?

Ipsquit to beat us in playoff semi then lose in the final?

Least worst is they go up automatically as that doesn't mean we haven't gone up...

If we're not going up anyway then option 3 as I do strongly believe it they don't go up this season they will drop back down, this is a freak occurrence for them driven by McKenna, don't go up and he's off and they will regress to where they should be with the squad they have got

My Leeds friend says it’s become a bit of a cult classic and they call it the ‘fruit salad’ kit after the sweets. He won’t have a bad word said against it..

However he’s in 1975 mode when they ‘won’ the European cup. It turns out they over ordered them by the thousands… They dropped the price down to £20 and in true Yorkshire/Leeds fashion, he bought one for his new girlfriend for Valentine’s Day (£18 with season ticket discount) 🙄

P.S He also wants Farke gone by the semi with ‘Hull’🙄 (His words not mine) I just read his drunken rant this morning. Blames infiltration of Norwich mentally, reminded him of Fulham 05’ blah blah blah

Its like Paul Lambert vs Leeds all over again 🙄

The Norwich mentality had briefly infiltrated when they made up the 15+ points on Ipswich and Leicester, then the Leeds mentality kicked in and they've fallen apart ...again

You will still have a seat/seat number. You can still sit in the safe standing area if you wish but your view will be impaired.

We have taken the view that we will give safe standing a try, on the basis you can still sit down at half time and , before the game starts...........

Have you confirmed this? I thought the seats were locked shut when it was in a standing configuration...

Luton will be a better club for their (seeming) one season at the top-table. Haven't they used some of the money to improve their ground, haven't they a better squad?

They may even be contenders in the Championship again with the parachutes they will get.

A big step forward resulting in a smaller step backwards?

I think the problem lies after the first promotion. You come back down with the money, the improvements and the parachute payments, you should be competitive at the top end the next season so fan expectations are higher, if you then get promoted again you need to try and push on, but the resources from 2 brief visits are not enough so you either see a bit of regression and the supporters getting disheartened or you gamble more than you should.

Promotion paves the way to hell...

It will be interesting to see whether you get more than the 233 views (at the time of writing), that the same thread title gained for LYB?

Already at 226 views. How many replies did LYB get?

V happy to be corrected but I think I remember reading that when you loan a player you transfer their registration, so Abu Kamara will still officially be a Portsmouth player until (again, happy to be corrected) June 1. As with Idah and Celtic, think this is a non starter

Just a minor point, but domestic and international loans work differently, international loans is a full transfer of the player as it has to be between FAs, domestic loans are a lot more flexible (but depending on the wording of the loan contract probably won't be able to play for us)

To be fair they’ve only got promoted due to their fan base and how even when things got tough they always sung and kept supporting the team. The lack of booing 20 years ago when they got relegated from the premiership has resulted in this promotion from league 1.

Yes, being owned by billionaire Michael Eisner has nothing to do with it, it was purely the fans what got them promoted...

I am being flippant as he hasn't just dumped money in like so many other owners, but that is a ridiculous statement to make....
