  1. Mr Bunce gives an excellent breakdown. At first sight the debt in simplistic terms looks pretty horrific but in reality it is nothing like as bad as it looks. 45m is guaranteed to be repaid in the short term, providing neither Sky or a football club goes bust, and the remaining 50m odd is investment from the owners. Even the top sides such as Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs have massive loans outstanding and are kept afloat by an assortment of investors from all parts of the globe. Man Utd are a classic example whereby despite consistently losing money and running up debt the Glaziers can still make a profit on selling some of their existing holdings. Abramovich lost 100's of millions at Chelsea. The basic problem is that unlike normal business many Football Clubs somehow survive on paying out more in wages than their income. So the balloon will not go up at Carrow Road for a while but there will be a lot of hot air on this site if we lose at Cardiff !!!

  2. Didn't Kieran say at one stage investing in a football club is like buying an expensive lottery ticket. Bearing in mind there is a strong chance you will never get all of your money back 11% is not a bad rate.

Webber is not my cup of tea but anyone in his role will probably be lucky if he gets say three out of ten purchases right. There are so many improbables i.e. settling in to a new country, different style of football, teamwork etc you are never going to achieve continual success. It does not help that if the supporters become aware of a bit of money to spend they want it to be used straightaway for team strengthening. Another big factor is that I bet the world of "bungs" still exist particularly so far as agents are concerned. Its all about money - sod the consumer (supporter)

This is why I think it is exactly like the Glazers at ManUre. The convoluted organisation structure that supports Norfolk Ltd involves quite a few other investors. I suspect Norfolk has raised funds from these investors rather than directly from Attanasio, to lend to the club at a relatively attractive rate to those investors. Sure, initially those other investors may well be interested in capital growth rather than revenue returns, but if things look like going south they will seek to gain as much return as quickly as possible.  I could be wrong of course, but further work is needed to identify how the companies that own Norfolk have raised their funding.

I doubt its his company's money. As Sheff states its probably investors money or pension funds which hold very substantial assets and a small proportion of their investment monies are in high return high risk loans. They would barely miss a loss of a few millions in football clubs. Norwich Union once did a similar arrangement with Ipswich TFC and wrote off about 20 million when Evans became involved. Ipswich are still flourishing, Aviva are doing OK but several investors like me lost about 20%. Needless to say it thrilled me to bits.

Partially agree, but would say, and have said for some time, that our problem is due to insisting on playing overlapping full backs AND wingers. I don't think this is completely down to the quality of the players, I think this is the weakness of the set-up when we lose the ball as often we're very spread-out all over the pitch.

Worse still, we're not exactly that fast or powerful in the middle of the pitch either so we're forever a bit behind the eight-ball and harum-scarum in trying to get back, meaning we're forever conceding ground.

IMO we should play wing-backs or the Christmas tree formation. Start gumming up the middle of the pitch more.

Yes I agree the set up is wrong. Rowe/Hernandez play wide together with the so called attacking fullbacks so there are huge spaces in midfield for the opponents to exploit. Additionally when the opposition break clear our fullbacks are too far up the field that we are then wide open on the flanks. Particularly so concerning Dimi. Sara and Nunez are not defence minded and with McClean playing deep with two slow centre backs we are there for the taking. Amazingly the coaches do not seem to be aware of this basic issue.

Thought today that Rowe did not look interested. Hernandes is finished and Placheta can only kick with one foot. Hwang worked hard but does not really create a threat. Warner has potential. At least he is young, fast, tall and fit.

Back to tactics the Blackburn keeper looked very uncomfortable with high crosses. But we made no effort to exploit this - including corner kicks.

  5. I think if you need any indication of how out of touch the Executive is at the Club you only have to view the very expensive and glossy Report.  The first 50 pages or so are typical modern company jargon far too wordy, lots of irrelevant photos, and simply copied from various sources. They fail to address the most important issues i.e. lack of funds and despite numerous forays in to the transfer market resulting in one of the poorest squads we have seen from some time. Do we still want to know that MWJ was a journalist about 20 years ago !! Judging from the responses on this thread the "man in the street"  has no real idea as to where the money has gone. At least Delia has shot down a few of her critics who suggest she has taken out a lot of money. Her new loan of circa 900k is remarkable. She often mentions at the AGM's that she is not that conversant with money and company accounts etc. I think this action certainly confirms her thoughts. I think this loan would have been put to far better use by giving it to the Help the Aged etc.

So our £27.2m loss is primarily caused by player purchases?

Happy with that, every fan should want that!

Sorry Capt your reasoning is not correct and your ship is in danger of being relegated to the depths. Player purchasers are capital expenditure i.e. IF you had 50 m cash and spent 20m on players then you are just swapping one asset (cash) for another (players). So the true calculation of the loss in millions is quite straightforward as follows:

    Income                                                 80

    Wages                                                  56

    Operating Expenses                          18

Amortisation and Depreciation       26       (includes loss on players sold)

    Interest Charges                                  7

    Total Outgoings                               107

    LOSS                                                   27

Any normal business would have to rectify this quickly to continue trading but as we all know football clubs live in a different world.

  7. For the past two games he probably has more possession than any other Norwich player. The problem is nobody in midfield makes themselves available in space so it eventually given back to the keeper or alternatively out to Dimi who is closely marked and we get nowhere. Of course the keeper could just lump it up the field but again we do not possess the forwards with the ability to get control of the ball.  He lacks support not confidence.

  8. For me Bradwell is spot on. Presumably it is the Manager's instructions for Long to play the ball to Gibson who either fiddles with it and gives it back or more often slides it to Ginnaul etc who can do nothing with it as he is close to the touchline and closely marked. To be fair Gibson on occasions is looking to move it forward but nobody in midfield is really looking for it or well placed. For me the most disappointing aspect of this is that the Manager must see that this style of play is no good at all BUT does nothing about it.

All those players you mentioned, gave their first club a few years at least , I have no problem with Rowe leaving us in 3 years time , same with big Andy . I have a huge problem with selling them before they have given us anything. Are we still desperate to sell even with the Americans on board .

Slight problem here. Its just over another 2 years before the Americans are fully on board. Until this scenario is reached will they want to throw money at us.

Well, apart from by far and away the single most expensive piece of building since Carrow Road itself - the knocking down of the old South Stand and doubling the capacity with the replacement.

Purple. I have to confess I can't recall exactly when this improvement was done. Presumably it was it done in the Delia era or if I was more intelligent with the usage of words ""After Bob was chased out". Perhaps with the glorious benefit of hindsight it was not a good idea to build a hotel to infill part of the stands.

  11. Fascinating that once again the Chase era has been brought up. In his time he was a classic football boss. Wheeler/dealer and constantly juggled with buying and selling players in an attempt to balance the books but at the same time produce a decent side. Bearing in mind he was at the helm when were in Europe and dealt with significant ground improvements, it is a fact that his successors have never approached his levels. Nothing has really changed in the transfer market where we still buy/sell to financially stay afloat and apart from expenditure at Colney there has been little done at Carrow Road. Indeed it has taken some 10 years to apply a coat of paint at the River End toilets !!!

As regards his "management fees" I would have thought they were justified. I heard he was often working well in to the night at the Club and nowadays we probably employ ten people to do his job. All those CEO's who have come and disappeared and how much do we pay Chloe and hubby ??

As for D & M as I have just said on another thread we seem to have an American busting a gut to provide us with some money. But no, at their age they want to cling on for another couple of years so leaving the Club in limbo.

Finally as regards the Sutton interview, when you are in business you do not show your hand until you think it necessary. If people feel that he was telling white lies perhaps somebody can tell me the name of any large business  or politician these days who is white than white. I can't think of anyone !!!

  12. Football Clubs will always have their ups and down. But I have come to the conclusion that it is all about management. Just the same as the normal UK business. The current Ipswich/Norwich situation is a classic example. Man for man we are probably a better outfit, but the Town Manager keeps it simple and clearly has all his players motivated. I don't think they are that great but they show pace and enthusiasm with a will to win. They are clearly "on a roll" but if they reach the Premiership they will be slaughtered  - ask Vincent Kompany. On the other hand it appears that at Coventry  we tried to hang on to a one goal lead against a fairly average outfit. I personally do not rate Wagner as it appears he does not understand the basics. The biggest example of this is that you cannot get away with a lone attacking midfielder such as Sara who does not get enough of the ball which in turn means nobody, particularly the wide men, offer any real threat. Sadly it is a very average Championship and I only see us as mid-table. In any event does anyone seriously think our present squad could cope with the Premiership.

The fact we knew in March that our SD was leaving and didn't see that as the perfect opportunity to start again is insane. The foundations at the end of last season were there to be built on, now they're saddled by players who will be near enough impossible to shift until their contracts are up.

To allow Webber to buy new players when we knew he was leaving is probably the most stupid decision in the Club's history.
