Well you see there is no doubt Grealish is a good and talented player.. It's just that when you join a club like Man City you go from being a player lookiing like a superstar amongst average players at Villa to looking like an average player amongst superstars at City.

I agree, but say this in your head, but replace with the following two names "Norwich" and "Buendia", along with the afore mentioned "Villa". Yep, I've been surprised too.

^ The outside perspective is interesting on Kabak playing for our U23's, especially how that post has been worded.

It doesn't seem so drastic for me as it's been a gradual process of him knocking on the door, giving the ball away, and Gibson & Hanley becoming settled.

But when you consider where he was last than a year ago to where he is now - it definitely is a hell of a drop.

A great "headline" but the facts are Liverpool lost that game 3-1 and Kabak got subbed, which is rare as a centre-back. I'm voting he had a stinker like at Chelsea away this season. His flaws do get shown up against the better sides.

  3. As an "occasional fan" now, its been 10+ seasons since my days of week in week out, so it doesn’t affect me as much, but I do feel your pain. Look at the 5th, 4th and 3rd finish seasons of the late 80's/early 90's we had and how utterly unrealistic that is now even for a team with far more resources than us. Sad indeed. lets see what happened in the next few yera with Newcastle...and indeed, I wouldnt have been sad to see the 4 or 6, er, F**...get the ***...er? "do one."

When bigger club supporting fans used to ask me “what’s the point/you never win anything” question when playing in the Prem I usually reply with, “we always get a scalp”…I just can’t see it now (…but please let it be Chelsea at Home, please?!).

For some balance it’s not just us lower level Prem teams losing the love. My Spurs 25+ year season ticket holding pal binned them off this season as “it’s just not football anymore” and he now follows Croydon FC where its not uncommon on away days for players to share the coach with the fans for a sing song. Sounds amazing. The straw(s) that broke the war battered camels back were a fellow Spurs supporter he half knew wearing an England shirt to a Spurs game. No crime except he had chosen “Mount” on the back as he liked him. The final one was seeing 2 suited Banker/Hedge-funder types in front of him open a hamper, then sharing a Victoria Sponge at half time. #gosoccer!

  4. He didn’t have a great game but if you look at the *last few seasons of stats and the stats of this game, look to see where the goals scoring chances came from.  *Only Emi was in front of him the last few seasons for assists/attacking threat.

I do wonder why Smith had him so tight to the CBs against Palace in the week as they are much more a deep crossing team, whereas you can understand it with Man City more as their “heatmap” of assists are more central where Max was placed. It still made me itchy when I saw Sterling and Foden with so much space over there though. Zinchenko? I reckon we should have let him have the ball more, but that’s another story.

If you look at all four goals and see who made the biggest mistakes leading up to it –

0 -1. Yep, Max fluffed the clearance and left it too late to get closer.

    The Max got injured/dead leg?

0 -2.  Actually game from Man City overloading the left with (as they did all game) Gündogan & Zinchenko and PLM and Sargent not sticking with their runners which left Max on a 2 v 1 which Gündogan exploited and made the goal. 5 of our defenders v 2 Man City attackers all in the penalty box. 0 -2. Wow?!

    Then Max was subbed

0 -3. Sargent not tracking Diaz. Williams leaving Sterling. Why do we switch full backs on corners?

0-4. Double Hanley. An awful clearance/pass. Naive body check.

Lets not do a “Todd” on Max please! He’s been extremely loyal and is vastly underrated at Norwich. Remember he put his head down and grafted when others had their heads turned.

Just to say this is Net spend, not the overall spend. Chelsea have spent 1.6bn on transfers but they've received £1.2bn in sales, so 413m Net. Incidentally their Net spend was near to 0 this season as although Lukaku was £100m(?) they clawed back close to that selling a bundle of players.

    It doesnt include wages.

Lille in French France are £349m up in the last 10 years. Get their scouting network in! 👀

  6. ...in the last 10 seasons. Interesting reading (imo)

Fair play that we're just about sea level. You've got to laugh at Everton, Villa and possibly even Arsenal considering recent years. No surprises with the Manc clubs.

S'oton and especially Brentford look to have great models too but i can't help think we'd be dangerous with a bit more clout...but as we're renowned low wage payers, I’d be interested to see what this table looks like with said wages included.

Net Spend of Current Premiership Clubs (last 10 seasons)
    (£m) Teams
    -1075 Manchester United (ENG)
    -984 Manchester City (ENG)
    -583 Arsenal FC (ENG)
    -429 Everton FC (ENG)
    -424 Aston Villa (ENG)
    -413 Chelsea FC (ENG)
    -374 West Ham United (ENG)
    -347 Liverpool FC (ENG)
    -339 Newcastle United (ENG)
    -336 Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)
    -292 Crystal Palace (ENG)
    -275 Leicester City (ENG)
    -248 Brighton & Hove (ENG)
    -247 Wolverhampton FC (ENG)
    -181 Leeds United (ENG)
    -105 Burnley FC (ENG)
    -94 Watford FC (ENG)
    -61 Southampton FC (ENG)
    -4 Norwich City (ENG)
    +43 Brentford FC (ENG)

  7. Bailey has written a great piece in The Athletic.

    https://theathletic.com/3103531/2022/02/01/how-norwich-and-todd-cantwell-fell-out-of-love/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983&redirected=1

I'd forgotten about this...another **** move from Webber.

On speaking to The Athletic about football’s coronavirus suspension allowing him the time to process the prospect of relegation, Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber said: “It let me get my head around it so that when the inevitable came and we got relegated I don’t have to sit sulking, crying at home or lying on a football pitch hoping someone takes a picture of me. When you can look at yourself and be honest, that’s the most important thing. That’s where you get your answers.”

Only Cantwell will know if such a cynical view of his actions was fair. His immediate reaction was to defend himself by posting on his Instagram story the said picture of him on the pitch that day.

While Webber could always take pleasure in seeing Cantwell surprise everyone, including him, it was Farke’s faith and unwavering support that provided the platform to shine. Losing that faith from Farke now appears to be one of the terminal moments in Cantwell’s Norwich career.

and its always about the money...

Cantwell is some way short of being among Norwich’s top earners — a situation that is as much the result of a protracted and difficult contract renewal in the summer of 2019 following promotion as Cantwell’s emergence as an academy product at the same club.

Both Norwich and Cantwell are set to profit should there be a certain number of appearances and Scott Parker’s team return to the Premier League, when an option to make the move permanent for more than £10 million will also become a realistic outcome.

£10m? I'd take it now, i think we all would no?

  8. I really rate him, gutted it didnt go to plan as he could(?) be amazing...the problem as I see it is he rates himself far more than he should do. 2 managers can't both be wrong can they?

What was the stat in his "amazing" championship last season? 6 goals...via 71 shots. Oooow?! Changes the view a bit doesnt it? Dean "stato" Smith knows. Good luck lad, i hope you grow up.

*I think the soft spot is because he looks a bit like my son. 😆
