  1. We lose the game in the centre of the pitch every single game, just simply don't have anywhere near the quality needed. As a result of this we get constantly overran (the players not being athletic/strong enough) and eventually the opposition will score.

As bad as Gibson was for the goal, he already had to defend 3 or 4 similar scenarios because the midfield in Mclean and Lees-Melou just can't do anything.

There's nobody to replace those two with, Sorenson is very similar in levels to those two. Game over I'm afraid.

  2. I suspect the '3-4 week injury' is a way of sensibly taking him out of the firing line. It's been a hard season for Gilmour, both from the footballing perspective and from the stands (inc. the Liverpool fans incident at the start of the season).

You wouldn't normally go back to your Parent club for a relative short injury period. I believe it's a rest-and-recoup type break for him, which would make sense. I suspect our current midfield for the next few weeks will further aide Gilmour by adding to the fallacy of players looking better when they are not on the pitch.

Good decision all round for me.

  3. Lees-Melou and Sargent have been shocking and offer absolutely nothing at this level (League One). As for the rest, the formation of 4-3-3 does not suit us at all.

We have no control in the middle of the pitch whatsoever. We have to get rid of the 4-3-3. Not only does it create massive gaps in the centre of our pitch, it also completely isolates Dowell and Tzolis who have also offered nothing. A nice one-two between Kabak and Dimi was the only highlight. Again, two marauding runs by our Kamikaze center-back the only points of enjoyment.

    Shambles.

Apparently we’re after Bradford midfielder Elliott Watt. Out of contract at the end of the season. Age 21, Scottish and 5ft 8 tall.

Seems like another youth gamble. Maybe we’ll get him in to allow someone to go out on loan?

    21, Scottish, 5ft 8…

The exact qualities we’ve been missing all season. Bring him in.

I notice that the ex-Celtic CB Acer isn’t playing regularly for them at the moment. I don’t know why but could it just be that Webber was wise not to fork out the extra £3 million for him?

He’s been injured for the past 2 months. Previous to that he had been their best player.

It’s also worth noting, like us, Brentford have also had a whole team out injured (10/11 injuries) including their 1st choice keeper.

It’s very frustrating to watch, as they’re a limited side skill wise (no worse or better than us) but keep themselves in games and take their chances when they come (very much better than us in both departments).

In summary in Norgaard they have a very good CDM. We failed in central midfield all season.

  6. There is a player in there (Gilmour) and he will improve as he gets older and most importantly right now, stronger. However, we are clearly not the right club for his development right now.

He would have been better being on loan to us last year or to a Fulham/Bournemouth this year where the team is expected to dominate large chunks of the game. He needs a protector alongside him and right now we're asking him to be the protector, and clearly it's not working.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a success of himself in 3/4 years time (at a West Ham/Villa type club) but he's not right for us right now. It's a shame, a midfield of Gilmour, Norman + a true DM could have been very good.

  7. Is that the 'model professional' Agbonlahor talking on a rent-a-quote radio station. Park him in the Jamie O'Hara bin section, nothing to see here.

I do like Michael Bailey's most recent article on Gilmour though and agree with the points he has made.

    Billy Gilmour:

    • Does still want the ball unlike others
    • Never stops running whatever the score
    • Is genuinely trying his best
    • Not suited to play in this formation / a team fighting for their lives every match

He's the wrong player at the wrong time, no slight on the player himself.

  8. He was once again hyped up by the Amazon Prime commentators - the media really are utterly clueless. What I will say about Gilmour is that he never stops running and doesn't shy away from the ball to his credit, but he simply isn't strong enough to play in the formation and position asked of him. He is of no use to us whatsoever.

He would probably work in a West Ham level side, not a team battling for relegation.

  9. Normann is your classic box-to-box No. 8 central midfielder. Can tackle, can pass, can take a player on, has a decent shot, but lacks defensive discipline to do the sitting role (and this would actually prohibit his previously mentioned decent attributes anyway), so he has to play the CM role. Gilmour is too weak at this stage to play any role in a team fighting at the bottom, but would be best deployed as a attacking mid, receiving the ball from the DM and knitting play together.

We are therefore crying out for a DM, as posters above have already stated this should have been our #1 target from the get go. You can have Kylian Mbappe up top but if you can't stop the opposition scoring or at the very least, stay in games to steal something at the end, then you're going nowhere.

  10. We have four players in the whole squad that can go past a player in this league. The worst thing is, the seemingly best person at doing this is the one player you don't want to do it, a centre-back.

Rashica, Tzolis, Dimi, and Kabak are the only four players that can successfully attack players. Aarons can't do it at this level and Placheta for reasons unknown to everyone, runs at his man, and then cuts back everytime. He just needs a couple of sessions from Huckerby and he could be a real talent.

With the above in mind, we have to play Dimi left-wing (as he can't defend) and instruct him to take players on.

    Gunn

    Aarons  Sorenson  Gibson  Byram

    Sargent   Mclean  Lee Melou  Dimi

                Cantwell

                                Pukki

  11. Leeds 5 - 26 Big Six

Newcastle 4-19 Big Six (ahead of playing Manchester United tonight)

Burnley 1-7 Big Six (only consists of five games, but yet to concede more than two so far in any one game)

Watford 6-13 Big Six (beat Manchester United at home 4-1)

    ----

Only one win and one draw in all the combined matches between the bottom five and the Big Six this season.

  12. Tierney is a terrific player, been a tad unfortunate with injuries at times and hence perhaps doesn't get the credit he deserves. He's quick, aggressive, technically proficient, and decent positioning, all the things you would want in a world-class fullback.

It's a tad ironic that Scotland have two world-class fullbacks and the rest is workmanlike.

I think this sums it up best. He's an average keeper Gunn, not great, not terrible. I know Stoke fans weren't over the moon with him. He's your standard lower-half Championship player, much like the majority of our squad. He's fine as a back-up but not for £5m.

  14. If you’ve watched any of the matches in The Championship this year, you’ll know the standard is even worse than last season. Watch a West Brom match and you’ll wonder how an earth they have been in the top 4 all season.

The main massive difference is the clinical nature of the Premier League. Teams press us relentlessly in this league with a mistake virtually always resulting in a goal conceded.

If we go down again next year, hardly any teams will press us high and chances won’t be taken anywhere near as high success rate as they are this year, hence teams get away with a lot more mistakes.
