  1. If there was one player that got us through the bad times and into the good, then Iwan Roberts was that man. I''ll always remember how I felt when he scored in the play off final. It gave us the brief taste of what we''re feeling now, the hope that premiership football was really possible. I wish him all the best where ever he goes.

  2. Dirty Lyle - fair enough, we do all want the same thing. Personally, I thought a weekend event would be a better idea to allow more numbers. An event like the Lord Mayors procession maybe.

Scott Johnson - I assume you must be quite a young fan. By your comment "they''ve tacked on a parade, and balcony appearance..." you clearly don''t remember that we had a similar kind of celebration the last time we were promoted, and the when we won the Milk Cup the year before. The difference being that they were held on a weekend if my memory serves me correctly. Even after we reached the play off final there was a mid week reception and balcony appearance at city hall, and a chance for the fans to get together after the season to say thanks to the players for a great season.

The council doesn''t have to do these things. Most councillors will not be city fans, and will not be too fussed over half a glass of sparkling wine with a bunch of footballers they don''t know. So imagine if our city councillors had expressed this and voted against holding a reception at city hall. No balcony appearance, no players to cheer, no trophy to be seen held aloft, no get together for the fans, no pictures on tv and in the press of us lot celebrating. Nothing.

Carrow Rd is the only place to hold such large numbers safely.

  3. It''s a massive shame the club have not had the foresight to delay digging up the pitch. A big reception at Carrow Rd would have been fantastic regardless of whether we won the league.

But I cannot understand why some individuals are slagging off the council for inviting the players, management, and staff to City Hall so they can be congratulated by both us and our city coucil in recognition of the clubs amazing achievement this season.

Complain to the club if you''re annoyed that there will not be a bigger celebration, not the council.

(Dirty Lyle - I take it you wouldn''t mind if your child or grandparent got injured in the crush if the police and council didn''t look after public safety? Or maybe you wouldn''t mind your council tax bill being increased when the injured then sued the council for damages?)

  4. I think we are fairly safe with holding onto Green for the near future.

Strangely, up to three England goalkeepers could be relegated to Division One by the end of the season. Paul Robinson with Leeds, Ian Walker with Leicester and David James with Man City. I think at least two of them will be looking to join Premiership clubs this summer.

Next season all our players will in the spot light. So any who perform well are likely to attract transfer speculation.

  5. I''m getting very bored of all this mud slinging. But Delia Smith has every right to express her disappointment at the way both Everton and the FA have backed away from dealing with this matter properly. For her to be labelled as a "demented middle-aged woman" by the official Everton website is pathetic.

Similarly, for the Everton Head of PR to say that the FA report confirmed their viewpoint that it was a small percentage of city fans using racist language implies that up to several hundred city fans are guilty, when nothing like this has been proven.

Personally I''m not comfortable with the argument that it''s perfectly ok to chant "you f*t b*****d" either. No it''s not the same thing, but it''s still an abusive term. Sexist and homophobic chants are also still commonplace at the football grounds so some fans still have a lot of growing up to do.

As a youngster I once heard racist language used by a city fan at Carrow Rd and he was dealt with appropriately. I know some of these attitudes will still exist in some people even if they aren''t often expressed any more, as the Ron Atkinson story has shown this week.

It''s a shame that some of this mud has stuck at a time when everything is looking rosey. But good on you Delia for standing up for Norwich supporters. I wish those who do harbour racist attitudes would grow up and leave our football clubs alone.

  6. With Sheringham being the laziest footballer in the history of english football, it would surprise me if a manager like Worthington who puts work-rate and commitment before everything else, would sign such a player.

As for Harper. I''m sure he''d be very welcome back here.

  7. Of course City can stay up. Here is why:

Most would agree Norwich have a better team than the two other Division One sides that will also be promoted into the Premiership. That leaves only one other team to finish above next year.

Looking at the bottom half of the Premiership today you''ll see plenty of struggling clubs that could go down next season.

If Worthy can keep the team spirit and add a bit of quality in key areas - and we all know where we might be found out at Premiership level - then I don''t see why a respectable league position is not possible.

  8. I''ve just heard Nigel Worthington on Radio Five. He said he''s after 3 to 5 new signings this summer. Plus maybe bringing in a couple of long-term loan signings. Rivaldo sadly is not one of them he said.

    I think we need:

    * A quality striker - If Huckerby gets injured we could be in trouble.
    * A midfield playmaker - an Ian Crook style player to run the team.
    * Two wingers - one for each flank.

    * Two defenders - a centre back with pace, plus a better quality right back.

As our squad is small already I''d be surprised to see too many outgoing players, apart from those Worthy has clearly rejected this season like Rivers.

  9. Surely it''s all relative to what you earn. If you are wealthy then £300 will be small change. Plus, this offer is an opportunity to buy a part in a moment of city history.

Let''s not be naive here, football is big business. You only have to look at the varying seat prices at Carrow Rd see that. Is the view really any better in the middle of the City Stand to anywhere else? Is the price of an Executive Seat (£1300) worth it? Of course not, Delia and Co realise that the rich have money and want to spend it, so they give them that opportunity.

While I don''t condone the exploitation of ordinary fans, there are a few deep pocketed people willing to pay inflated prices. £300 would nearly pay for my season ticket next year. If I wasn''t such an insane city fan I might be tempted to see if I could scam the fat cats too.

  10. I often read the Guardian, and their First Division coverage is notoriously poor.

Since we have been top of the league their coverage has changed notably in its attitude towards us too. But it''s just jealously. I know that some of their writers are Man City fans, so you can understand them neing neurotic supporting a club in a dump like that.

Huckerby........It''s A Kind Of Magic (Queen).

  12. In all probability Tom, yes.

Sunderland could reach 89 points if they win their last six games. But with Sunderland still having to play both West Brom and us it is looking very unlikely. 2 wins and a draw from our last five games would take us to 89 points too - but we still have a better goal difference.

So yes, wins against Walsall and away at Watford could well be enough. Crikey O''Reilly.
