Hey, it’s the guy that said he’d cheer on Kier Starmer nailing his, was it mother or grandmother?

it usually takes longer for a labour leader to commit political suicide but Starmer has gone in for the kill early here. Mind you, he was head of the CPS so he’s just decided to “go pro” with being a f@£)ing crook by becoming an MP.

SAGE scientists aren’t concerned with the wider economic problems that will undoubtedly cause far worse problems than the virus itself.

political point scoring right now is completely sick. I hate the lot of them don’t get me wrong but right now “down to earth” Sir Kier is top of my list of domestic political morons. If we were about to storm the beach of Normandy Sir Kier would be trying to find a political angle to attack the government with. He’d nail your female family members while you clapped, as you previously explained in great detail , and then he’d sell them for a seat in the north of England. He’s next level sick. I can see it in his beady, barely human expression.

Just no competing with such true genius

Just imagine, unironically, calling for more nationwide lockdown. Imagine being that much of a f@&£ing idiot.

Just imagine being so dumb as to write a comment like that. But I will pass on your comment to all the SAGE scientists who called for just such a lockdown. I'm sure such an acute scientific analysis will change their minds.

Financial packages certainly help but they can't prevent businesses going bankrupt in the long term. There comes a point where it is impossible to provide financial support as the country is overloaded with debt that would take generations to pay back. It is a moral question and I don't know the answer but is it fair to burden future generations in order to prolong the life of those in their 90th decade?  When these people were born they had a life expectancy of late 60s so already they are well into extra time.  I understand that it is a bit off to talk about the need to face up to mortality but at the end of the day that is what the question boils down to.

Lock-downs and their concomitant financial packages are there to support individuals and businesses through to the period when we have gained sufficient control over the virus (e.g. a widely available vaccine). Delaying the circuit-breaker lock-down will see viable businesses go bust. The younger generation needs the survival of these businesses for their future too. Allowing them to go bust does not help future generations.

We could also argue that it is morally repugnant to see someone lose their job due to a lockdown, resulting them in losing their home because they cannot make the mortgage payments or rent, forced into debt and their children taken into care because we decide it is more important to keep an eighty-four year old grandad alive for a few more months.

Who has the right to life? These are the moral questions that a government has to answer and it impossible to provide an answer that satisfies everybody at the same time. Choices have to be made. I'm glad that I don't carry the burden of making those choices as the burden must be intolerable. I just try to do the right thing with social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands. That's the usually the most we can do.

A Lock-down has to come with a financial package ensuring people are not financially punished

"The three worst-hit countries each saw around 100 “excess deaths” per 100,000 people between February and May, which researchers say was probably due to governments being slow to implement lockdowns and scale up testing and tracing."

Johnson's dire performance at PMQs show that nothing will change on this score. I have no doubt a circuit break lockdown will happen soon because of the exponential growth of the virus. But the delay in doing this will mean it will be less effective and result in many unnecessary deaths. This is an appallingly ineffective and morally repugnant government

So foolish! The logic of your position is frankly idiotic. It means that no-one could legitimately change their view on a position irrespective of becoming aware of new information. Starmer came into possession of new information that the SAGE committee had recommended a "circuit-breaker lock-down" back in September. Only a moron would ignore this advice and Starmer has rightly changed his view in light of it. Deal with the arguments.

If the NY Times are to be believed is this the final nail in his coffin. Apparently a telephone call was overheard agreeing herd immunity ie open up everywhere and let Covid rip.

Who needs Russia or China to kill Americans when they have their agent doing it for them.

Indeed! And it couldn't be clearer that this is the case from the example of the Trump super-spreader rallies themselves. They are nothing but a herd immunity policy in action; no social distancing, very few masks. The USA is on it's way to 1million deaths and more unless Biden wins.

  8. Amy Coney Barrett the so-called committed catholic has a very hard time telling the truth.

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/trump-s-supreme-court-pick-dodges-key-questions-at-confirmation-hearing/ar-BB19ZXKo?ocid=msedgntp

Neither was she able to say that voter intimidation is a federal offence, nor that it would be illegal for a president to delay an election. You would expect a supreme court nominee to know what the law is on these simple issues. In avoiding an answer to her position on Roe v Wade she introduced a claim that she doubted it amounted to a "super-precedent"; no such concept exists in US judicial review.

Not only is it obvious that this appointment should not be happening at this time when voting is already underway (for all the reasons Republicans themselves articulated not long ago), but also it is clear this woman is totally unsuited to occupy such a crucial role in the American judicial system.

  9. And back in the real world of day to day business:

    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/brexit/brexit-business-fury-over-minister-s-heads-in-the-sand-accusation/ar-BB19YzK0?ocid=msedgntp

"A government minister has sparked a backlash from businesses after accusing them of a “head-in-the-sand” failure to prepare for Brexit, and warned their companies may be at stake as a result."

"But the chief operating officer of the Food and Drink Federation, Tim Rycroft, retorted: “I don’t think it’s accurate or helpful for ministers to assert that traders have not engaged in Brexit planning.

“If any traders have their head in the sand it’s because, after many frustrating months awaiting critical answers, they probably think it’s more likely they’ll find those answers in the sand than they will from the Government.”

So that's all going well then, hey Jools?

Thanks for posting that Jools you buffoon; you've just proved to everyone that Trump supporters have the IQ of a retarded Gnat. No social distancing, hardly any face masks. This video could be titled: "How to ensure that your event becomes a super-spreading Covid-19 swamp". All this will show to any undecided voter is that Trump is not only a grade-A idiot, but also that he doesn't give a damn about the health of American people. Dumb beyond belief.

  11. It is quite shocking that the supreme court is politicised in this fashion. Overturning Roe v Wade may be one of Barrett's personal aims, but my real fear is that she is being placed there by Trump as a means by which he can steal the election via the supreme court. Then democracy will truly be dead in the USA. Very dangerous times.

About 175,000 people in the UK have a heart attack each year. The risk of having a heart attack increases as you get older, and men tend to get them at a younger age than women. The average age for a person having a first heart attack is 65 for men and 72 for women.

Should we not bother to try and prevent after 65 or 72 then ?

An apposite example Yellow. Further, I think the stats quoted from the ONS can easily mislead when taken out of context. We need to remember that these stats have been recorded during a period of lockdown when the government through gross incompetence allowed the virus to decimate the elderly in care homes (accounting for nearly a half of all victims). Had there not been a lockdown, government advisors predicted a death toll in the general population of circa half-a-million. This no doubt would have brought down the average age of Covid-19 fatalities.  But like you, I think the average age of Covid-19 victims (while medically relevant) is not the most salient statistic when it comes to political policy.

Perhaps we all need to be aware when interpreting statistics that it is a potentially perilous activity in which we can fall prey to an inclination neatly encapsulated in the following quote from Andrew Lang (putatively):

“He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lampposts — for support rather than for illumination.”

  14. Frankly I don't see any point in doing anything other than accepting what Todd has posted as an attempt to mend a few fences. No one can deny the guy is one of the most talented players we have, and it is no surprise that his young head has been turned by agents and other clubs whispering extravagant promises in his ear. Yes he threw his toys out of the pram, but it seems he has now gathered them up again and wants to play properly.  It is certainly true that he could learn a lot from considering how Godfrey and Aarons have dealt with the intense speculation over their futures. So let's hope he does just that. Surely it is in the interests of all parties (including fans) to give the young man a chance to prove his commitment on the training pitch and on match day. There really is nothing to gain from continuing a festering antipathy towards him. If you found it in your heart to forgive Hoolahan for his "sh*t-hole club" comment, when Paul Lambert did every thing he could to unsettle him, then surely you can give Todd a break too.

Now come on Yellow let's be fair. He did demonstrate very well how absolutely brain dead you would have to be to shake hands with people carrying a deadly virus. Not sure I could have worked that out all by myself from the label "DEADLY VIRUS".
