  1. Crazy situation that the top six EPL have to keep a homegrown on the bench so they can add a £85m foreign wonder kid to a squad.

The problem with English football today - too much foreign money! With 50% of top clubs losing money, surely this should be scrutinised under the UE FA FairPlay rulings?

  2. This case reminds me of the ridiculous position a very large corporation that I worked for in the 2000’s was put in. An official letter was sent to all management staff about inclusion and diversity and the fact that if you did not receive training or there was no record of you having had the training and an incident occurred, you could be sacked.
Fast forward a few months later and another letter was circulated that an individual had decided to ‘become’ female and would now be known as (insert female name). This particular letter greatly upset one of my female colleagues who went to the General Manager and asked me to come along as a witness. She asked but one question…”Are you seriously expecting me to share a toilet with that thing?” 17 years later I believe she’s never had an answer….

  3. I think most Brexiteers would have accepted a sort of Norway EEA type 'leave'. I note that Norway only subject to 21% of EU Laws. Whilst this might seem reasonable, the price to pay for free movement of goods, is free movement of people. Having watched what happened in southern England between 2003 and 2008 without one single Euro coming our way to improve or build schools, hospitals and infrastructure, it wasn't a surprise to me why Leave got such a toe hold. What started out as a Common Market for 'trade' ended up becoming a federalist super-state. Powerless to do anything bar voting for Red or Blue every 5 years, DC gave me the opportunity to make my feelings felt.

7 years down the road, I don't think there's any going back. On-topic though, I have watched the EU come more into line with the UK as far as Russia is concerned after the initial prevaricating - all except Hungary, Which I find most strange.

  4. We have a 1-11 elevation out of Houghton daaarn here in Sussex

seriously we have cyclists who will attempt to pedal up the whole 1 1/2 miles to the top at Whiteways holding back a grain or brick lorry for 15 minutes to get to the top ( because the lorry has no hope of executing an overtake) and then claim they are saving the world

meanwhile, the thirty or forty cars, trucks and vans behind the melee are in first gear achieving 2 or maybe 4 to the gallon in first gear.

Well we are certainly not bothered about being invaded. We are sending 14 of our past their sell by date tanks.

I'd contest they are past their sell by date - just seen an article on Yahoo that there's a guy fighting in Ukraine in a tank that's older than him - and he's 55! Challenger 2 good for 2025 and Challenger 3 (LEP) 2035 which started in 2016.

We have 227 operational - I think 14 have already been sent to Poland.

  6. So you'd like cycle tracks along the edge of the road - this will take at least 8 foot each side of the carriageway of what was once pristine grassy verge and is now basically thick crude oil to replace it. Same with the Smart Motorway mob, have another 25 foot of concrete on the side of the 'road' which is used about 0.005% of the time. All because the 'agenda' is a populist safety issue which gets plenty of air time on the Beeb.

The issue is cars are getting safer at the cost of the occupant being less aware and remote from the actual feel of the road conditions. I'd add that most motorcyclists are better car drivers because of this - more spatially aware, in touch with road conditions etc.

I remember a work colleague who usually came to work on his Honda 90, hit a Volvo pulling out from a side junction. The accident happened at 30 mph so not really any major injury to him. His words when he came back to work? 'Volvo Drivers doors should be made from paper'. If there is a whiff of vulnerability on the part of the driver, then they'd start looking twice pulling out of junctions.
