  1. Hope he stays, but I can see why Hart might need some coaching. 80% of his attempts to clear the ball upfield for England went out for a throw-in to Brazil. As a shot-stopper he''s great, but he''s poor at crosses and as I said, his kicking is attrocious.

Hopefully it''s just silly-season journalism, with some reporter having to fill some space.

  2. On the issue of ground expansion, I knew the architect who designed all four of the current stands, and I am sure he told me when the City Stand was built that the club wanted to put a cantilevered top tier on it which would have been constructed so that it went out over Carrow Road, which at that time (before the Riverside development) was part of the Ring Road. However, they were unable to get planning permission to go out over the road, so it never happened. I suppose it is quite possible that the stand as it is has adequate foundations to support a top tier which goes out over Carrow Road now that it''s not a primary route.

  3. Looks like rugby is learning from football in this instance, in terms of players starting to be disrespectful.

When I refereed (at a very low level) I used to get the players together before the start, tell them that I would make mistakes, but that they would be honest mistakes, and affecting both sides, and that they could feel free to criticise me for them when they managed to play a perfect game - no mis-placed passes, no poor shots, no mis-timed tackles, etc.

Consequently, never had any problems with dissent.

  4. Nathan Redmond from Birmingham. Can go past a defender, knows when to pass, and has a good shot with both feet. Given Birmingham''s financial state, they would almost certainly be open to offers. Might get a two-for-one deal, combinming him with Curtis Davies!

  5. This obsession with statistics is going to make football as boring as cricket!

Passing statistics mean nothing, if all a player is doing is is knocking it 5 yards backwards, what matters is the effectiveness of the pass. Most of the the posters on here might manage a five yard pass, if there was no pressure on them, and percentage rates mean nothing - if you only pass the ball once in a game, you can end up with either 100% or 0%.

Let''s leave statistics for the cricketers.

(By the way, I think Bradley Johnson has been great this season - based on my gut feel!)

"When was last time we bought a player of this type? Been around the block, had some good seasons, had some awful seasons, but generally never set the world alight. How is a player like this ever going to take us up a level?"

    Darren Huckerby?

  7. 3 - 0  One offside goal, one blatent foul, right in front of the "extra official" on the goalline. What do those blokes do?

And how does the stadium announcer get away with his spiel after a goal has been scored, building up the crowd while (presumably) giving the goal-scorer''s name, while play is going on?

  8. Yes, this is another one that annoys me. I believe it was introduced to speed up the game, so that players could have their treatment completed off the pitch, and the game could continue. However, it is unfair on the team offended against, so to even things up, the player who committed the foul should be made to leave the field as well, until the injured player is able to return.

Goalkeepers obviously have to be special case, and it makes sense to allow them to stay on (though it makes just as much sense to allow any player to stay on, as they always used to).

  9. Bunn''s "handball" was outside the penalty area, and was deemed to be denying a goal-scoring opportunity. The Sunderland keeper was inside his box and caught a back-pass, so I suppose the referee sees it as that. However, it definitely denied a goal scoring opportunity - would have been the own-goal of the season, so yes it does seem unjust

  10. The figures in both links are interesting, but one of the most interesting points in the Telegraph link is the ratio of Income to Wages - Man City spend more on wages than their income, whereas all the others appear to at least spend less on pay than they earn. With the new EUFA rules coming in (next year?), it''s clear Citeh will have to shed some of their top earners, or find a way of boosting their income considerably.

Even Chelsea manage to keep their wages the right side of their income.

  11. I think it must be me you''re refering to.

I was in the City Stand for the Newcastle game, and the Jarrold for the Everton and Gillingham games, but in my own seat in the River End Lower Tier for the Watford game.

I don''t shout to be "amusing", I shout to try to get others to join in (and quite often get some "Yellows" echoes going).

I used to write on this board a long time ago under the username "Foghorn", then I stopped because it degenerated into some pointless discussions, so I switched to 606 (though that''s now going the same way). I came back on here a couple of times and found someone else was using "Foghorn", so I changed mine to The Original Foghorn.

    Come on you Yellows!!!!  [:)]

  12. Although I doubt whether it would have changed the result, because Arsenal always looked as though they had something in reserve, Lauren should have been sent off.

I''ve read Graham Poll''s explanation, and it just doesn''t hold water.

He said that he failed to hear the buzzer signal from the linesman''s flag, because the guy dropped it when the first foul took place on the centre circle. However, the referee is not obliged to stop play just because the linesman signals, and it was obvious that Hucks had got past Lauren, so in effect, the referee allowed an advantage. Lauren didn''t stop playing because he saw the linesman''s signal, and nor did any of the other Arsenal players, so when the referee eventually blew up it was for the second foul, when Lauren was clearly the last man and Hucks would have been clean through one on one with the keeper.

It was only when the idiot on the line ran back towards the half-way line that Poll even realised that anything other than the second foul had happened. He was right to consult the linesman, just in case he was indicating for foul on Lauren by Hucks, but when he realised there were two fouls on Hucks, but that he''d let play go on, he should have stuck to his guns, given the free-kick just outside the penalty area, and sent Lauren off.

Even given the first foul stood, with Huckerby''s pace he would have been on a clear run through the middle. None of the other Arsenal defenders were in a position to cut him off, so it was still a "last man" situation, and a goal scoring opportunity (after all, it does only have to be an opportunity, not a cast iron certainty).

One thing hasn''t changed since we got promoted - the referees are still cr*p.

  13. Well, if we can''t look through green & yellow spectacles, who can?

I''m not saying Bentley is the answer to everything (that''s 42 according to the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy - which coincidently is the number of players Chelsea will be getting rid of) but he''s certainly a great addition to the squad. As a lot of other posters have said, its not that we need to win the league, just win our mini-division within it. I''ll settle for survival, and further team building next year.

Crouch would be a great addition, and I don''t think we''ve heard the end of that one yet - hopefully Worthy will pull another rabbit out of the hat (could be a job for you, Rabbit!!!)

    Upwards and Onwards!!!
