Salopian 1 Posted October 23, 2006 - so long as you convert chances! To make more sure progress, we not only need the defence to continue in their improved form, we also need the striker(s) to convert more chances.Significantly in the last two great wins, the two goals were scored by Skackell/opponent and by a midifelder, although we seem to be playing three quick players up front. The biggest offender has clearly been Earnie, who has failed to take three or four excellent chances, but Hux and Croftie have also failed to beat the keeper when well placed.Earnie, playing a lonely role, has worked very hard and well, and opposing teams must always be keeping a weary eye open for him. Ditto Hux. To this extent our attacks are reducing the ability of our opponents to attack. It has also to be admitted that one or two opposing keepers have been in inspired form, but it doesn''t alter the fact that misses against Cardiff could have cost us dearly if the Cardiff forwards had managed better shooting. We have to "kill off" the opposition, not relaxing and nor backpedalling until we are out of sight of them.It is clearly wrong to expect all chances to be converted, but we must convert more. Given the defence, success or failure could depend on converting a higher percentage of chances!
