Salopian 1 Posted October 2, 2006 The new manager, whoever he is, has an enormous task. The squad is too small, and there are so many underachievers. There will have to be a clearout soon, but there is limtied scope to replace them. Logically the clearout will have to be next June. There seems uncertainty on this board as to how many loan players we can have and for how long, but bearing in mind that we have already had two, - Boyle and Camp, this can hardly be a way up for us.Given the club''s inistence on financial prudence, and after settling up with Worthington et al, there will not be much in the kitty. Don''t look for the transfer window to do much for our fortunes, unless the new manager can find some cheap but useful players from the lower divisions. The team has lost confidence over the past two years, so it will probably take a few games to restore this. It will also take time for him to analyse the players and then to get them playing as he wants, (eg with a proper defence!).On the plus side he has three or four players who are certainly up to standard and are capable of dominating a match or almost winning it on their own. He will also have a new re-united support from the best supporters in the country. Finally he has some promising youngsters who have been strangely overlooked in the last era. If he is able to use them intelligently, as other clubs do, one or more of them may blossom. It will take time. Bearing in mind all the above, a top six finish in May seems a remote possibility, but we must forgive him so long as there is sign of building for ther future in place of the running down we have witnessed recently. Our big challenge is to be supportive immediately and at times of disappointment in the next 18 months at least. Fortress CR must become formidable to visitors, and that''s partly down to us!
