  1. Numerous posts across these threads have commented in the fairly recent 180 degree direction change from Archant. As I put it, it''s a complete turnabout and seemed to happen almost overnight, presumably an instruction from on high within the company.

I''ve just been reading the EDP web-site where they invite readers to send in questions they would put to the board if they were able to attend. One guy goes on at length explaining the psychology of interrogation and concludes with a suggestion for getting some action from the owners. This involves Phillips making a stance by stepping down from the board.

Chances of this are pretty slim (unless Delia tells him to). Many fans seem to think he is still an Archant rep on the board but his ties were cut with them a couple or so years ago. He then went to work for Delia on setting up some online thing, so to expect any boat rocking from that direction is wishful thinking.

  2. A Load of Squit. You''re quite right, I am reduced to a collection of jumbled opinions. My term "seeds were sown" was pretty inappropriate too, I was simply meaning that the problems were well under development long before AN showed up.

Captain Pants. No, not at all happy, I can''t believe the position the club finds itself in.

TIL 1010. You know more about the internal politics than I do and I accept what you say but to bring in Balls and Moxey as replacements is my real point of criticism. Add to that, the earlier board appointment (and step down) of Fry, the appointment to the football board of Ricky Martin and the succession appointment of nephew Tom and it all adds up to group of people fully equipped to fail.

  3. I guess by now I am with those calling for a managerial change but do so with little confidence of a successful result, based the recent years track record of the owners. It is they who orchestrated the hasty departures of the Chairman and CEO, a pairing which had delivered playing and financial success in equal measure. And what do we get in their place? Jez Moxey and the joke that is Ed Balls. Is the football board still in existence because if it is, there must be at least one individual on there who has overseen the lamentable transfer business of the past few years?

The team never ceases to amaze me, when you think it can get no worse, it does. I have only seen the short clips of the QPR game that are on EDP site but it is full of individuals errors. Starting with Olsson, Bassong for both goals, Naismith easing up when clean through because he didn''t fancy challenging the oncoming keeper and Martin with another through ball just like against Liverpool.

Not knowing who does what as far as recruitment and contract negotiation is concerned makes it difficult to point the finger on responsibility for us being lumbered with such a collection of overpriced de-motivated rubbish. The one good thing is that those who screamed abuse pre-season at anybody who pointed out the player deficiencies, have in the main, got the message now. How many times did I read that Martin and Bassong would be great in this league!

A number of posters are calling for the owners to get the cheque book out in January. For a range of reasons, I don''t see that happening. Our player acquisition record is appalling, not for how little we have spent but for the value of what we''ve bought. Such a transfer record would not inspire me to invest more, especially given that outstanding loans have just been redeemed.

How do others see things working out for any incoming manager? The numerous players who are stuck here simply to take their contracted sums each week, are they likely to play for a new manager?

From the perceived strength of our position when relegated, it beggars belief that we sit as we do today.

  4. Watching Alex Neil''s post match Brighton and Leeds interviews and also watching him pitch-side yesterday, I increasingly see a man running out of ideas. Obviously, an interview so immediately after yet another dire performance will never see him at his most chipper but he is almost admitting to being at a loss to know what to do.

I saw an interview with Karl Robinson at MK Dons, recorded just the day before Winkleman unloaded him and there was a marked similarity of demeanour of the two managers.

I am not suggesting that AN is as close to the door as KR was and especially not so after the Delia interview but I would say there is a serious concern that it is not just the players who need to be lifted.

  5. He is consistently the weakest of a number of weak links, only contributing effectively in the pre and post-match interviews. He has, for a long time now, used his time in front of the press to concentrate attention on "the team," as a means of deflecting the spotlight away from his own shortcomings. Brighton last week was a classic example of this.

His small but loyal bunch of supporters buy into his range of off-field attributes but are blind to the carnage that he orchestrates on the pitch.

Yes, today, like so many others, he was woeful.

  6. Speaking of Nephew Tom, Lake District Canary wrote:

"No doubt he will have access to the DS/MJW contacts book. He''ll also learn from them on the job over he next few years, as they show no signs of retiring or moving on - and why should they......"

If you are referring to the book that has brought us Stephen Fry, Ed Balls and Wolves reject Jez Moxey, maybe he''d be better prepared if he served his apprenticeship somewhere outside the family.

And how does this handing of an asset to a family member stand alongside Delia''s often spouted Socialist beliefs. I thought she favoured taxing inheritance to the hilt so that wealth would go to the state, or is that just for others?

  7. Please tell me you are a wind-up merchant. You mention Walker and Stringer from way back when... No mention of what happened with two more recent appointments from within, namely Gunn and Adams.

I recently stumbled on a clip of an interview Ricky Martin gave at the time of his appointment to the football board. Put Ricky Martin Norwich City into Google and it will come up. I find it hard to imagine a less impressive interview by somebody appointed to a key position. In a short interview of just three or four minutes, he announced his new job title as Technical Director and then proceeded to mention it a further five times. Add to this the liberal use of management speak clichés picked up from God knows where and the whole thing was little short of a joke. Lots of shaping blank sheets of paper, best in class and more mentions of being really excited than a normal being could handle.

When further description of his new role suggested that he was to become Neil Adams''s Baldric, the true importance of the position was somewhat devalued.

Thoughts of appointing an inarticulate version of Neil Adams should help ensure Alex Neil is left in place a while longer.

  8. The players who are in our squad simply because of the terms and lengths of their contract and who would prefer to be elsewhere, number more than most of us would have realised. Presumably it is the reason all of the following hang around, many of them poisoning the atmosphere:- Nasmith, Brady, Lafferty, Klose, Mulumbu, Olsson, Dorrans, Andreu and Turner. Then there''s Jarvis and Whittaker.

How can a manager expect to build any sort of spirit within the squad when it is littered with people who want away but are too expensive in either transfer fees or contract values?

I have added Jarvis and Whittaker to my list, not because they fall into the "want away" category but in the "why the hell did we sign them" list. Both signed contracts after the others, after our relegation. Whittaker doesn''t make the matchday squad and Jarvis (when fit) gives us nothing over either Murphy.

Nobody should be in denial about the mis-management which has occurred, its there for all to see. And, as if performances culminating in Saturdays debacle were not enough to endure, we now have our cardboard cut-out of a captain clawing himself onto the high ground to criticise his troops. Supreme irony given that in most matches he has been the outstanding weak link.

  9. Can''t argue with Ricardo talking of MM, "Lack of physical presence, unable to dominate his area, good shot stopping is nowhere near enough at this level."

But with JR as the alternative, we take a backward step in practically all features of the discipline. Yes, JR has a bigger physical presence but this gives him little in the way of an advantage, hamstrung as he has been for a couple of years by such a desperately low self confidence. In other respects McGovern edges him anyway. A bit like the US election, who is the least worst.

  10. I have been heartened of late to see the reformed AFC Wimbledon make headway in Div.1.

Their recent run of decent results has coincided with something of a downturn for MK Dons, meaning that for the time being at least, the club for which I have respect looks down on the team which stole an identity to get itself into the football league, rather than earning a place there like others have to.

Winkleman has today parted company with Karl Robinson and will now be looking to collar some clubs manager. I guess that''s a little better than taking the entire club.

  11. Nail on the head Ricardo, on every point you make. This consistent inability to close out games from relatively comfortable positions needs rectifying.

Those who close their eyes to the obvious think it makes them a superior type of supporter but in reality, it brings their football judgement into question.

How long has the CB pairing been woefully weak? Yes, we addressed 50% of the problem with Klose but still persist with what should be the non-playing captain. (Cue those in denial to get the scapegoat posts prepared).

Why proceed in such an important season, with such a glaring weakness which jeopardises the reward we get from the many plus points of our situation?

  12. For those of you who were not at todays game and have not seen the footage, you should be told of Martin''s starring role in the immediate lead-up to the Burton goal.

Reading Archant will give you nothing on this, Ricardo''s report spreads the blame across the back four and the link on this forum has been edited to pick up the action in our six-yard, just after Martin''s abject defending had put them there.

  13. Ray,

I neither like nor dislike the stats that you present. Nor do I question RM''s commitment or his desire to play somewhere in the team. What I do dislike, as already detailed in this thread, is his earlier and repeated insistence that he is a CB and that CB is his best position. He is a walking disaster at CB, the position he was selected for today and should never be preferred there to Bennett. This inevitable destruction of Bennett''s confidence comes on the back of him having done little wrong this season.
