I think the way things are going are vindicating the decision. It's clear the club calculated that the players we needed to make a difference would soon be back from injury, so there was no need to spend; it looks like they were right.

And if we had spent at levels we could realistically expect, what's the likelihood we'd have had someone come in and hit the ground running turning things around? Pretty slim, I would have thought.

Our rivals loaned players, we were more interested in moving them on.

We let possibly the most dangerous player from the bench in the league depart and replaced him with what unfortunately is turning out to be a damp squib.

It’s a good job we had players returning or we wouldn’t have made it. One more key injury/suspension over the run in could have cost us and possibly could still.

Theres so few options from the bench the team picks itself.

I wanted to give Knapper credit, I wanted to be positive from his first window (and there were positives) but in terms of pushing for promotion this season it’s a massive gamble if it comes off (and the credit if it does must go to Wagner and his team) and really does smack of us not expecting to be in this position.

    ..additionally ,we have now taken

4 pts from those filthy b@stards

    2 draws from Southampton

    3 pts from WBA

    6 pts from Hull

    4 pts from Coventry

Having at least equalled ,if not bettered all of those around us, it would probably now be considered a failure if we didnt get a top 6 place...

And we could have possibly took more from WBA if Sainz hadn’t been sent off.

Knapper should have done more to back him January. Did he? Not really.

    We shall see.

Not the time to me discussing this but there is a fine line between a good manager and an ordinary one.

Thankfully it's not down to the Pinkun.

I agree, I like Wagner so I’m glad to see him turn it around. Good for him, good for everyone.

However the complete lack of backing in January despite the constant insistence we were aiming for promotion is looking a mistake.

If we don’t get promoted this season it’s looking like it won’t be Wagner’s fault based on his 2024 performance.

He bathed through the back of him. It was one of those where we would have complained were it not given the other way... But they did miss a blatant foul on macullum just before that

I think that might have factored in, you never know with officials but McCallum was definitely a foul and he let it go if he then gives a pretty soft penalty people would be baying for his blood.

Can see why Championship is his level.

I think Rowe will be gone whatever, but regardless of that I'd have him replacing Barnes so Tzolis can work some magic in attacking positions (Think Stiepermann style role), allowing us to field pace out wide.

I see that much more fitting of the expected style that Knapper will want us to translate into, plus enhances us as a younger squad of developing talent.

If we sold Rowe on promotion we’ve learnt nothing.

He’s a good player but he’s unlikely to be interesting the top PL teams yet and he’ll already have his chance at a PL crack with us.

In contrast I struggle to see a scenario where we keep hold of Tzolis.

4th and 5th are now settled, possibly 8th and 9th too. The games are running out.

It's a shame about the Sorensen injury what with Duffy ring rusty, Hanley in 'rehab'.

So a play-off semi against Ipswich, Leeds or Leicester. Still all to play for top 2.

Southampton and WBA can now plan for the play-offs and start practicing penalties...

We definitely want whoever comes third, the psychological impact on that team is going to be massive.

I still think it will be the binners, especially after we beat them Saturday.

We don't really want to finish 5th tbh as that probably means Southampton in the play-offs as judging how we melted today would be tough over 2 legs.

Honestly just making the playoffs should be the objective so the main thing is Preston and Coventry losing.

Warning signs were there Friday against Plymouth.. certain players were flagging then but naming an unchanged starting 11 seems a little bit deluded.

There’s few options, team pretty much picks itself.

The gulf in strength between the two squads today was absolutely massive.

Leicester bringing on players like Vardy and Justin while we had Gibbs and Fassnacht.

Iheanacho and Coady sitting on the bench.

Most of their bench would walk into our best 11 is the reality.

  9. I’m with those that can’t see Dimi staying, I imagine Knapper wants to freshen up the squad and while I like him, Dimi has proved consistently inconsistent and must be on high wages.

McCallum is younger, still potential to improve but depending on the league we are in he’s unlikely to be first choice especially because he wasn’t already this season.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see both leave, but if we were to keep one I suspect it’s McCallum.

Pretty sure the implication from Knapper was we weren’t having any other contract discussions yet with players out in the summer, maybe that’s still the case.

Id be surprised if we don’t give Sorensen one more year due to his utility but he shouldn’t be in a conversation about having two genuine LBs IMO, he’s 3rd (arguably 4th because of Kenny) choice.
