1.
Sorry Purple you are right there but whether it was leaked or not a transfer request in this day and age is an archaic idea and for Payne to put one in can only suggest to me that they wanted it made public if not why not just state your grievances with the Club in a meeting and then engineer a move elsewhere.  As stated previously most agents nowadays attempt to engineer a move quietly for players in contract and it works best for both Club and player.
If and again I stress if this was going on for 2 months he must have stressed his grievances to the club. Could you really be simmering inside and not say anything ?

Read into this what you want but one of my binner friends ( if you can call them friends lol ) keeps pointing something out to me. When the players were on the pitch Holt walked behind the other players ( maybe he wanted to show his trophy off ) and his kids were the only ones of all the players kids that were not wearing Norwich kits ( probably because they looked better in dresses ) hopefully these were simply circumstances rather than Holts goodbyes

  2.
I know a couple of sports agents who look after pro golfers and its their belief that Lee Payne has done a v poor job of managing Grant Holt.  If he is trying to maximise his clients value in both terms of wages and fees he has gone about it in completely the wrong way.  By handing in a transfer request he has created a no win situation for either it Holt or the club.  I am led to believe that contrary to Paynes musings on radio Norfolk that this is all about money.  Holt is looking for one big payday either from Norwich or another club which will fill the coffers before retirement. It is the main problem with second season syndrome in that once players have kept a club in the Premiership they know the club has money and that they feel they should be rewarded further for having done so.  The problem being that in Norwich''s financial situaion due to previous debt issues they cannot afford to pay the going "market wage rate".  This would be fine if players who were previously in the Championship accepted their contracts that they signed then but obviously they think their market worth has increased and deserve a bigger, and longer one.By handing in a transfer request though he has given other clubs a reason to not offer his full market rate in the belief that he is not happy and can get him on the cheap.  The club however is unlikely to sell him even if they were offered the market rate as it is highly unlikely that they would be able to replace a 16 goal Premiership striker for £3-4m.  On the basis that the club are highly unlikely to sell him on this basis it means Payne has left his client, who will still be idolised by most if not all now, with a slight cloud hanging over him should he stay.So not only is Payne unlikely to maximise the value of his clients worth, but his reputation however brilliant the past is likely to remain with a small stain on it due to Payne.  If Payne had been shrewd about it he would have moved quietly behind the scenes like most agents do to attempt to engineer a move (if that''s what Holt really wants), and then approach McNally with a potential bargaining chip that the club could use to maximise their return, and one that Holt could use to maximise either a new contract at Norwich or a higher fee for the club which would mean they would be more likely to agree to sell him.By going public with a transfer request Paynes is unlikely to maximise his and Holt''s return on either.
If this leak came from the Payne / Holt side ( IF ) do you seriously beleive Holt did not sanction it ? If he did not in view of the problems this has caused surely he would have sacked him by now ?

Again in fairness to Lee payne and Holt I am sure that if he wanted to he could get Holty a move to club prepared to pay him much more in wages than Norwich are and could have had it all lined up by now. That they are (seemingly) trying to sort things out with Norwich and he says he''s keen to stay suggests that he might actually be looking out for Holty''s best interests rather than just chasing the pounds, even if he is perhaps doing it in a slightly cumbersome manner. He doesn;t strike me as the complete shark that some agents are because believe me many would have had Holty on the move straight away.

If you want to worry about and agent then worry about Lamberts because he is supposedly as ruthless as they come!
Spot on. Only regret he has probably is that Holt did not play like this when he was 25 then he could have made some serious dough
In fairness to Mr Payne Holt is a grown man and alledgedly very intelligent. Payne has been Holts agent for 9 years. You cant simply ignore Holts part in it. Mr Payne is insisting this is something that has happened and should it ever come out he says we will be backing Holt. It is very concerning if he is telling the truth that this is something Lambert could not have dealt with over a two month period. Like everybody else you can only speculate ( which is doing immense damage to our club ). I really hope that damage does not spill over at tonights game.
Quite. As to "immense damage" that is overstating it, though. And this is not going to be an isolated case. Fans are going to have to get used to this kind of public drama. The Premier League is essentially a soap opera. And a year-long soap opera. It doesn''t stop when the season finishes.
If this was the complete end of season I would take your point. Whatever happened it would all be forgotten by September with Rhodes and Morison scoring for fun under the direction of Malky ( JOKE )

As this has all come on now it is possible ( and I do stress possible ) that Adam Drurys night could be turned into a farce. I am neutral till I see the facts but this could easily spill over tonight.

    However, i do think he''s going :(

I think one of the assurances Holt was looking for was that Lambert would be here next season and neither PL nor DM would or could give that assurance. Hence there will be no conclusion to the Holt saga until there''s a conclusion to the Villa (and myabe even Liverpool) saga.
How do you know that ? He could equally be looking for assurances that Lambert wont be here next year ? Nobody knows at the moment but surely if this has been going on for 2 months why would lambert have been leaving then ?

You are saying if Lambert leaves Holt will simply turn his back on this club ? thats not very complimentary to Holt

  6. In fairness to Mr Payne Holt is a grown man and alledgedly very intelligent. Payne has been Holts agent for 9 years. You cant simply ignore Holts part in it. 7. I would prefer him not to play. Without knowing what is really going on people will show undoubted support for Holt. This could actually make the problem worse - what if this is a bust up with Lambert - The support of Holt could then see Lambert walking - we just dont know what the problem is.

Holt is a legend but at best he would offer us one more season. If you dont want to be here dont spoil the status you been given by taking our club with you.
Think you will find Whitbread has already in effect signed for Sunderland doubleing his money. As I understand it he was offered a contract but we had no chance of competeing
That one has done the rounds a bit.

Money is tight in football. Why would Sunderland offer him double the money he is on at Norwich?

They already have Brown, Bramble, Turner, Kilgallon and O''Shea on their books. Why would they offer Zak double what he''s on now when he is only ever fit to play half a season?

I mean Zak has been good but I can''t see he''s done enough for someone to come in and offer him that much of an improvement on his wages.

Maybe he will go to Sunderland but I just can''t see that they''d need or want to up his money that much.
Did not get it from a rumor or guesswork sorry to disappoint.

  9.
....changes in personnel and systems are indicated.

The 3 relegated clubs shipped - 88, 78 and 77. And us and QPR each let in 66.

    Not good enough.

Thus, expect changes in defensive personnel to be a priority - both defenders and holding midfielders.

I suspect that Whitbread is merely the first.

    OTBC
Lol Whitbread was probably our best centre half hence he has left due offers of huge salary increases

  10.
I thought Whitbread was only average and had a bad injury record, if we want to improve we need players on contracts without them being injury prone, Whitbread did get caught out a few times with his poor passes, okay he was a good shot stopped and good in the air, but as i say average, not worth a premiership contract.Lambert will bring in someone better that''s for sure.Clear the decks first.
Think you might find he has not been playing since he turned us down. Judging on the choices he had the rest of the prem do not agree with your summing up

  11.

Exactly.
    Couldn''t agree more.
Ill disciplined in position, and the players around him aren''t good enough, so you mostly end up with no striker or anyone to fill the hole.

But never mind, we''ll have stewart downing, lampost and gerrard bombing on................Jesus wept!![:^)]
I''d suggest that in terms of position there is very little between Wayne Rooney and Grant Holt, who is often found tackling back on the edge of his own penalty area.

But where Holt has "a great work ethic", Rooney is "ill disciplined".  Okay.

    Downing is sh*t though.
Lol didnt Holt win the worst discipline again this year for fouls committed and didnt Rooney get just 1 yellow card all season. Rooney is the best player in England you would really take Holt instead of Rooney ?? And you are saying Hodgson should go lol Take Holt yes but in place of Rooney ? Messi rarely is seen in his own half he must be really s**t

  12. Reckon should Lambert go this thread will be a mirror image of that aimed at our new manager ( whoever he is ) should he not win his first game or even dare to drop Grant Holt. A manager is there to select and manage a team and ensure they work tatically to stop the other team scoring. Sometimes a team does not include the best players, Augero is not automatic for Argentina. If you look on other sites and look now at so called pundits this is the only place where there is that sort of outcry for Holt.

I actually think it is not the playing for Norwich ect that has not got him selected, I think it is the fact that in international football you must try to keep the ball and like it or not even with English referees holt gives away a lot of fouls. I really beleive that if you had a spanish or italian ref doing our first game he would not last an hour as they would not understand him. In comparrison to Holt Caroll has given away only 1/3 of the freekicks Holt has.

Give the man a chance and at least judge him afterwards

  13. Whatever happens please dont blame McNally or our board if Lambert goes, it will be purely his decision. If Lambert leaves who knows wether we will get stronger or become weaker. Even Lambert will struggle to match this years achievements so who knows.

If he does go to Villa he has to manage their expectations or he will be in the same boat as McCleish. Their fans think they are as big as the likes of Chelsea still and if Lambert was to sign the likes of Pilkington / Bennett Villa supporters would not accept this as they claim their club is much bigger than this. Also remember Mr Lambert that if it goes wrong Villa fans will make it personal and even involve your kids should they attend matches.

  14. Quite strange really because without this group of supporters referred to by the op and edmund our great club would probably be playing somewhere between league 1 and the conference rather than the premiership. Maybe op you miss the scenes of Hillsborough, Valley Parade and Hampden Park. People who wanted to attend football in those days often would not due to the violence seen at many matches.

When Norwich are away and we dont travel where possible where we watch Cambridge. Just to show how football has changed forever our lad and all his mates find it totally unbelieveable that people have to stand in some stands.

I really must say I hate Saurez but that goal he scored against us was something else and I found myself along with other season ticket holders applauding an amazing goal. When this is shown over and over again in the future we will be able to say I was there when that happened.

  15. On his current form you would seriously pick Holt for England ? I would also suggest that in the environment these games will be refereed Holt would receive a red card in his first game.

In fairness the Holt for England started when he had a run of about 4 games where he and the side played well. Despite all his goals I beleive we have only won 3 times when he has scored and in his 22 starts in the pl we have won only 6.

I agree Holt has had made a difference at times for us but this has been patchy ( as with all our strikers ). I dont mean this to put Holt down as he has had a fantastic season but are you really saying given the option of a straight swop Holt for Defoe Bent Welbeck or Sturridge you would not take it ?

  16.
Lambert has spent the last 3 years telling everyone who will listen that we have a fantastic group of players and brilliant fans ,so if he was to up sticks and leave he would have to give us all a very good reason so maybe its just me but i just don''t think he would do that at least just yet .
Not sure that he has carried on doing that after his team was booed when they drew with Wigan. In fact that nights press conference he questioned everything.

He has also spent 3 years telling us he wont be here after 4 years. Personally I think McCleish will be sacked ( Villa have no option even if they stay up ) however I think the press may have blown it for Lambert. I am in fact surprised that the FA have not gone wild at the Sun for reporting this story at this time. They have left our club and our manager in a difficult position should we be in a position to send villa down. I think it is Villa trying it on leaking this story, however if it is true we will find out next week as surely Lambert would need to resign or be removed from his position prior to the Villa game. I personally expect him to be in charge for the Villa game.

The reason I think the press have blown it for him is should they get anything from us to keep them up how on earth could Lambert explain it if he then left. I am sure he would be very professional in the game but surely if there was truth in it he could not win. Send them down - how would villa fans react to we have just appointed the guy that relegated us - keep them up and the rest of the football world would be questioning it.

Lambert will always be a god to me but he has never not made it clear he wants to get to the top. He needs to advance the club he is with every season. If I was a manager I know if I had to think what would be easier Norwich finishing higher than where they will or taking the fit Villa squad ( Bent Adbong Petrov ? Dunne ect ) from 19th in the table to mid tableish getting credit for stabilising a big club. Personally I think the Villa job would be much easier.

  17. IF and I do stress IF this is true should there be any chance of Villa going down on the last day Lambert would surely have to resign prior to this game ? If we lost he would be in a no win that he deliberately lost and no one would know if he did or he didnt. I am sure there would also be one or two players that would also be going with him. Please not Leicester and O''Neill all over again.

I have to say I could see arguments why he would not turn a move down. A high finish would leave him struggling to acheive more and any less could damage his future prospects with other clubs. And I dont know what others think but his love affair with us seemed to hit problems after some saw it necessary to boo his team after the Wigan game.
