Let's not forget their "project" (aka letting a billionaire throw money at them) is only alive because some incompetent didn't turn on the goal line technology.

This is such a silly argument. Had that incident happened in the first game of the season, nobody would make such ridiculous claims. You stay up due to your performance over the course of a whole season. You could look at any team and pick out examples where results were impacted by good and bad luck.

I disagree. I’m not talking about his new contract or the recent transfer, I’m just talking about him being at Villa in general. My comparison was him having the same contract as he does here, since joining Villa from Getafe 4 seasons ago without ever coming to NCFC. There is no way they would sell him to another club for what we have just done to them. And I wasn’t really comparing about which league both respective teams have been in for the past few seasons, but in all honesty he could’ve gone down with Villa last season and taken them back up like he has done with us and they still wouldn’t have sold him for what we have done.

It’s a sad realisation for where we are in the pecking order, and it’s even sadder to think that we absolutely won’t we’ll see Brentford sell Toney or Watford sell Sarr to a Palace, Wolves, Newcastle etc. for a similar sum.

You will if they get relegated, the difference is we kept Emi for an extra year. Few people seem to be grasping we're in a totally different situation to Brentford. Emi wanted to leave a year ago, the impact of Covid stopped it. We got an extra year, when in normal circumstances, he'd have been sold. We'll see what happens with Sarr.

Nobody will bid 35 mill for Toney yet, he's not proved he can do it in the prem.

Villa fan in peace. Im a long time admirer of Norwich's brand of football. Win, lose or draw...Norwich have an entertaining passing style that I've admired for as long as i can remember.

Norwich' model: This may divide opinion, and im no expert on it ... but I admire the scouting system and the business model SW et al runs at Norwich. Always rated him at Huddersfield.  By bringing in players like buendia for 1 to 2 million...developing the player, entertaining the fans, winning promotion and a then receiving a richly deserved profit...if they decide to sell...Norwich are proving again and again that they have a formula that works financially for the club. Yes, football is about winning. But its about winning long term realistic battles.  I don't tune into motd to see man citeh win again. It's to see Norwich or Southampton or burnley show that it can be done, all whilst reinvesting and keeping their clubs on a firm financial footing....and winning the hearts and minds of average folk like me.  This is far more difficult, imho, than the gung ho cash lobbing path some clubs have trodden before. I, for one, have seen how, in the wrong hands, clubs like Villa, can face major uncertainty with inept owners and rash buys.

Buendia:  from what I've seen, in the current money mad market, buendia is worth much more than the 40 million ive seen quoted. He has a lot to his game. His runs into the pockets, his flicks, his intelligence off the ball...it's a rare gift these days. I cant understand why other teams aren't queuing up for him. If he had played for Argentina v Chile the other night, the sum would be different. With some of the dross that is being sold for bananas money these days....Buendia looks like a transfer of the summer for me. I'm not assuming villa will get Buendia. Far from it.  I'm a realist...and he could, and should have his pick of the teams. However, money talks...and I'm sure Norwich will take the best deal for the club. The days of having to sell Eadie to Leicester for 3.5 million  are thankfully long gone for Norwich.

The future: I'd be happy to see Norwich challenging in the upper echelons of the Premier league. But realistically, as with Villa, it's a long way off. It could be worse, and we could go the way of citeh, and lose the real identity and souls of our clubs.

The past: im still waffling, and showing my age, but I remember when Norwich sold Kevin Reeves, after he played for England,  to Man City for a whopping 1 million or more back at the start of the 80s. At the time, it went down like a lead balloon with my school pals....but it did pave the way for the river end stand (my former hairdresser once informed me). That 1 million transfer back then embittered fans, but was a stadium game changer to Norwich at that time....and in the long run.

I remember Villa paid a similar combined sum for Withe, Morley and Bremner around that time...albeit not marquee signings then..but they proved to be key members of the league and European Cup winning side in the following 18 months.

So i guess the point I'm making is, its about the bigger financial picture. (Trying not to sound condescending). Norwich will use the money they receive for Buendia wisely... bringing in some prospects...maybe some free agents on bigger salaries....whilst building even more financial stability in uncertain times. Let's not forget, there are still some fine players at the club. I'm sure I'll be reading once again how a lump of Spanish/Argentine coal has once again been turned into a Norwich diamond.
Whatever the outcome on the buendia or even grealish transfer situation,  Good luck next season, and in the future.

Good post, you've got yourselves one hell of a fine player. I don't think many in the Prem have more natural talent than Emi. In my opinion, he's the best I've seen in a Norwich shirt, in my lifetime as a fan

I wish him all the best at Villa. Grealish and Emi in the same team is quite an amazing prospect.

Vile?? I understand why you're upset but that's just bizarre. Why? What have they done?

I've seen a lot of posts on here recently like this. Every time we have even the smallest issue with a club suddenly their club/fans/owners are all c*nts.

You're making us look like stereotypical small club yokels.

Thanks for being a traitor and helping a rival team.

You're either an Ipswich fan or a crappy fan, both equally lame, spending your free time on a forum spewing bile and hate. Get a new hobby, get healthy.

Firesale is selling assets off cheaply to avoid bankruptcy so ok poetic licence with last bit come on let’s wake up and smell the coffee. Name another club who get promoted and sell the crown Jewell’s.

Also imagine us replacing the talent? People’s costs have just gone up when we come knocking on the door? Mattheus Perreira for £15m now we got £33m - no chance!!

You're ignoring the unique circumstances brought on by Covid. It's not their first outing in the prem with Norwich, they're now at a different stage of their career, they're not unknown entities anymore, they've proved they can perform in the PL.

If Brentford go down, do you think they'll keep Toney? (Provided he has a good year)

Yes there is, Paul Lambert, they came here to our final home game and Villa fans were so arrogant about Lambert going to them, pre game we’re arseholes and during the match. The sort of arrogance you’d expect from Leeds fans.

Well that worked out well! Now we’ll see if Buendia can make that transition to a new team without Pukki, possibly with a weight of expectation which he never had here. Good luck to Buendia and he did a fantastic job here, now he’s just a Villa player so no great love from me.

Diddums, you can't handle a bit of banter, enjoy your hatred.

I wish Emi all the best. He's a Canary legend

No it's not! It's £33m and I think that is an absolute bargain. It's not a great fee. Villa have a price of £120m for Freakish, Madison is now £80m. Really poor from the club but totally predictable.

Nobody is going to pay 50+ mill for an established championship player that's had one outing in the premier league and scored 1 goal.

Those valuations of Grealish and Madders mean nothing unless somebody actually bids, it's just pie in the sky.

Fact: no promoted team has ever cashed in on their main player. Fact: Toney and Sarr will both be playing for Watford and Brentford next season irrelevant of if a £35 million bid comes in

Perhaps if you pull your head out of the sand you'll notice that there was a pandemic that meant we were able to keep Emi for an extra year, under normal circumstances, he'd have been sold when we were relegated. Be grateful we didn't flog him off to Arsenal for 16 mill a year ago.

Emi was on borrowed time, in a freak set of circumstances.

To these commenters saying it's par for the course: Can you name one side that got promoted to the Premier League and then immediately sold their best player? I think that's pretty extraordinary behaviour for any football club, sustainable model or no.

You also won't find a set of similar circumstances. Normally bigger clubs wait and see if newly promoted players will perform at PL level, Emi proved that in the last PL campaign and would have left a year ago were it not for the financial impact of Covid. He was always on borrowed time

  11. Emi was always on borrowed time. In a Covid free year, we'd have sold him a year ago. I agree that villa feels a bit uninspiring, but it is a step up for him, I hate to admit it, but it's true. Also in the current market, 35 mill is realistic.

At least we've done the business early and have time to replace him.
