  1. We need a striker who can bully and out-muscle the defenders like Holt does. That is what we missed against Portsmouth. Much as I enjoyed Ched''s spell with us a couple of seasons ago, I''m not sure he fits the mould of what we really need. Plus, who is to say that Ched will repeat the form he showed last time he was with us? Back then he was sent to us on loan with a massive point to prove to his parent club. That wouldn''t be the case if we signed him now.

It''s a nice idea, but I don''t see Lambert going for it

  2. I know what you mean - it''s hardly a positive stat for us. On the whole tho, I thought last night''s game was pretty entertaining, even if we did get a bit of a pasting. the score was flattering to sunderland, and if we''d have taken some of our chances, and had their goalie not been so good, we could have had 4 ourselves. we didn''t surrender or look too shit, so I came away from that having been entertained

  3. I agree with all the ratings of the players that everyone has been discussing but disagree with what you believe Lambert''s philosophy over team selection has been over the last two games.

Why is it, that when Lambert himself states he needs to see as many of our players playing to see exactly what he''s got, that people come on here and say ''he''s obviously just picking people to put them in the shop window'' or ''he''s obvioulsy picking players that are unlikely to play for us again''?

Listen to the manager guys - he wants to see all of our players, which is why some unexpected players are getting games right now.

Or is it just the done thing on this board to naturally assume that club officials are bending the truth to suit their own purposes...

  4. Thats the third time Ive seen Tudur-Jones play and believe it or not that was probably his best performance of the lot. He got forward more and had a couple of efforts on goal, but really didn''t cause sunderland any problems when they had the ball, which is what you need from a big centre mid like him - a few heavy challenges

  5. I think any defender who has played in our back for over the last 3-4 seasons should be dropped. Defence has always been weak. We showed last season that we could score just as many goals as birmingham - its at the other end where all our problems lie and I hope Lambert will be the manager to finally overhaul our slow clumsy defence

  6. I''ve thought all along that Hoolahan doesn''t live up to his billing. He was brought in as the replacement for huckerby, but not once has he looked like he could fill one of darren''s boots, let alone both. Maybe it is unfair to judge him against one of our greatest recent players, but he still doesn''t make the grade for me for several reasons.

He is frustrating to watch as he is constantly turning into trouble. He''ll make some space for himself, but then turn back into another player to take him on. He has very few assists and very few goals. His poor attitude is now becoming apparent - so much so that he could soon receive the same treatment as mark fotheringham from the fans. Some of the players recogised after the game against wycombe that the side suddenly had balance - hardly surprising when you actually have a winger on each flank prepared to run the lines rather than having a drifter coming in and out of the game when he likes, believing he has licence to do so because he can make the odd player look silly when he dances around him.

So maybe Hoolahan would be better suited to supporting the strikers - playing in the hole -  rather than being assigned a flank - but when we''re struggling to get the bread and butter right atm, do we really want to be arsing about with diamond formations and the like?

Hoolahan just doesnt fit the kind of football we''ve been playing for the last couple of seasons nor the kind of football we need to be playing right now. He may slot into other teams better, but definitely not into ours.

  7. I think after watching two very different Norwich sides play at Brentford (in relation to the two different formations we played), Lambert is probably more likely to experiment with the more successful 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation which looked far more promising than the 4-4-2 formation which has done us no favours so far this season. Martin did look dangerous playing on the left and coming inside kind of like Hucks used to. Whilst I can''t fault Holt''s work rate and determination, I would also like to see more of what Maric can do. Also, I''m hoping Lambert will help to fully develop Adeyemi into our best midfielder. He''s definitely got the potential and from what I''ve seen so far this season, the midfield looks pretty flimsy when either he or hughes are not in it. OTJ and Gill definitely isn''t my first choice pairing

  8. re hoolahan at the yeovil game - did anyone else notice how he pretty much grabbed the ball to take the penalty, and didn''t exactly celebrate when he scored it - i thought it seemed he was determined to get on the scoresheet to put himself in the shop window. anyone agree or am i reading too much into it?
