See the point - but put it this way, how many times did we essentially buy fallen angels? By that I mean bought players who had spells of looking like they were excellent but lost their way somewhat. Leitner's an obvious example under Farke, and to a lesser extent Krul and Pukki were in the same boat. Dowell could be said to be similar as one at Everton who looked a baller but just didn't quite kick on.

Cantwell's a 24 y/o attacking midfielder who's had a good season in the Premier League, had England U21 honours, comes from a club/manager renowned for youth work, and has lost his way a bit. I agree the market for him is not huge, but it only needs one.

I think the problem here is that all the players you mention  that we bought we got exceptionally cheap or free. We’ll still be looking for a sizeable fee for Cantwell and I’m struggling to see what team will take that kind of risk on him, especially if they can get him for free in 12 months time

  2. I accept we’re missing quite a few players but I don’t think any of them are real good enough either and would make a jot of difference to how bad we are(maybe Norman, Krul and Pukki).

what puzzles me is how either Farke or Smith can expect any team with a midfield axis of Gilmour and McLean to win games. The continual playing of these two and expecting different results is complete madness. I’d honestly give Dimi, Williams, Kabak, Byram, Sorensen or a youth player a chance in centre midfield ahead of either of them.

injuries/illness are an issue but fact is we are an embarrassment

I actually quite like that team. Sorensen in - and an I'd say an Idah goal or two coming up - two wide men and him in the middle, good opportunity for the youngsters to show what they can do.

I’ve seen nothing to suggest Idah will ever score a premier league goal. Grasping at straws our only chance is if he continues abysmal form so Smith throws Rowe on and he becomes our surprise package this year

  4. Thanks….genuinely assumed it was evening k.o.

although I’ve a horrible feeling I won’t be thanking you at 5 and will probably have preferred to miss it!

guess you never know they may surprise me and put in a decent performance (although I’d settle for even a decent shift!) ….it’s the hope that kills you!

  5. I can almost live with the defeats and the embarrassing league position and points but what really hurts at the moment is the loss of the love for the team over the last few months.

Farke for all his faults was a man of charm and love, he also established a squad with some character and style.
now we have a group of misfits who offer us no joy or excitement. Honestly when you see the team sheet who gives you that feeling of someone you want to cheer on? Pukki if old maybe, Krul with the dream of penalty save but none of the new players or the quite pathetic loan signings.

im not just talking about the likes of Maddison or Buendia…I’d give anything now just for a Vrancic or Stiepermann despite all their faults.

If I ever see another starting line up with McLean and Gilmour together with I will instantly forget about that game until the end.

This team is just bland and pathetic at the moment. No blame for Smith for that (although he is also a bit meh) but fault is on Webber who I am also now seeing as a charlatan.

Sorensen has been our best player the past two games. Total insult to drop him. Honestly the guy must train horribly or something because it’s two managers in a row that don’t appreciate what he does on the pitch.

It has been made very clear over the past 18 months that this player has to do a hell of a lot more on the pitch than other players do. How can anyone justify the inclusion of the likes of Gilmour, McLean and Kabak with mostly poor but mediocre performances at best all season. Sorensen has done excellently (again) in the face of being thrown totally in at the deep end in the wrong position (again) yet is dropped immediately at the first sniff of someone else being available (again).

I don’t know if there’s a word for it other than ‘harsh’. In fact I’d probably throw a couple of ‘very’s in front of that too.

Or as I put on another post, perhaps premiership managers and coaches who see training every day have a better idea of player quality and who should be selected than us fans!

and I’m one of the fans who rates Sorensen and really disl8ke McLean and Gilmour!

Don't know why its harsh, he was pretty poor in midfield during his limited time there. None of them could have complained about being dropped from the midfield.

I agree with this, I know we all really want  him to be the missing link but in the limited time he was in midfield v Villa he didn’t look great

Urgh, Gilmours playing. The treatment of Sorenson at this club is a joke!!

Or just maybe qualified premier league managers and coaches, who see the players every day training may have a bit better idea than us fans….just a thought 😉

Maybe its time for the club to consider reporting a few “false positives “ 😳

You may be joking but actually this is another example where Webber should be earning his money.

if anything smacks of nice little old Norwich it would be our game going ahead in these circumstances. We should be petitioning the premier league and threatening legal action if game goes ahead. I’d also be reporting lots of staff and players feeling unwell and having to go and take tests

  10. Must admit I am also struggling with the concept/benefit of loans.

Arguably it worked last season as getting Skipp was a big factor in us being promoted but being blunt what was the point.. we havent replaced him and now we are struggling to survive. There's an argument that we would of been better off playing Sorrenson - we may not have been promoted last year but maybe this and have a player of our own who 'could' step up to the premier league.

SImilarly this year the loans havbe been far from convincing - Williams is decent but wont make the difference in keeping us up. Gilmour was probably meant to bring that little bit of magic that would have made the difference but sadly he looks like a youth player being given the chance to have a dabble with the mens team (I'd send him back in Jan).

Normann obviously looks like a proper player who (if he can stay fit) is premier league quality ... but again like with Skipp... if we dont sign him permanently it just leaves a massive hole which we will be unable to fill.

I know loans can work (Skipp and the best ever Huckerby) but I think we should always be looking to use our own players first (eg Dimi ahead of Williams, Cantwell/Dowell/Tzolis ahead of GIlmour)
