Agree Hairyo , Foden is currently my favourite English player to watch in the Prem, he is very accomplished and perhaps( as im not looking it up) the first Academy player to have properly come through under Pep( who i dislike but acknowledge  is a good coach) . He is outstanding imo.

Totally agree, I've been saying for about last 18 months that Southgate should be building his team around Foden. He is a great talent and Southgate with his negative/conservative tactics is just stifling him at an international level

Wonder what Sinani, Cantwell, Dowell and Sara think of the situation!   We certainly won’t be signing this lad and we certainly aren’t developing any of those players into something useful on a promotion!

Whilst I understand your point and I'd certainly think it would be better if we were developing one of our players, it would seem that maybe Ramsey is just a better player and maybe also putting in more of an effort. Our/Smiths priority has to be winning games now..sure, it would be great to develop the  players mentioned but we know they are decent for the championship and our aim is to get back in the premier league.

It may cause an issue next year but for now it's up to Sinani, Cantwell, Dowell and Sara to prove they deserve a starting place ahead of Ramsey.

It's worth remembering that Idah is still only 21. And he's barely played in the last couple of seasons. Really hope he can get a run of games. All the raw material seems to be there.

I think we need to move on from this ‘still only x’ ….Idah has been a ‘potentially” good player for years. He’s not a youth team player and many others players have been starters in the premier league and internationally by that age.

Unfortunately he just doesn’t seem to be able to stay injury free and even if he was I’m not convinced he has the talent to be anywhere near as good as Sarr. Indeed I’ll be amazed if he is ever the leading striker in a team above league one (happy for people to bookmark this comment and prove me wrong in years to come,,,would honestly love that as nothin against Idah himself).

  4. On first read lots of these comments seem pretty harsh for someone who is a good player and has been very loyal to us.

But actually they are probably all right. He very much reflects us as a club - too good for championship but doesn't have the quality to really make it in the premier league.

He could probably make it at one of the constantly battling against relegation teams but he doesn't have the level of quality at any level (ie defending/tackling/forward play/physicality/height) to be at a really decent team.

Unfortunately he has now moved out of the 'potential' stage and therefore a club would need to be looking at him as an immediate starter.

I expect there may still be some debate as to whether we are partly responsible for stunting his development.... if he had got a move a couple of years ago he may have benefited from working with better players and coaching staff.

    What could have been sorted?

We have four centres halves in the squad plus a couple of others who can play there if needed, how many do you think we need?

Plus its highly likely Hanley & Omobamidele will be fit for Saturday week anyway.

Surely having Gibson as cover is sufficient! He was meant to be our premier league quality CB a couple of seasons ago. Not sure what sort of quality CB you'd expect to be happy to be reserve behind Gibson?

  6. McClean?

Only sort of joking, what we really need is that tough tackling, no nonsense defensive midfielder.
a player who can get in the oppositions faces, win the ball and free up all our creative players.

Put that kind of central pivot in the team and we should be promoted again as this is a poor championship. Although sadly I think the squad is nowhere near good enough to survive yet again.

I maintain he’s done great things at the club but man the guy needs PR coaching at times. The “death in the family” quote is a bit much. Sure, in terms of relegation it must be a ****e thing to deal with and the uncertainty that comes with tightening the belt with people losing jobs but to compare it to death is a tad silly.

Pretty sure he used the death in the family quote after the last relegation….in fact somewhat disappointingly then whole thing is just a regurgitation of what he said last time and doesn’t show he hasn’t learned anything new.

I appreciate he needs to put a positive spin on things but it’d been nice if he had at least acknowledged that the signings hadn’t worked out as well as he had hoped.

Best friend is a Cov fan and I'll never hear the end of it if they beat us, that said he's not confident about Saturday or happy with the current state of play at the club.

They're not a bad side with some decent attackers who could cause us problems, but he assures me their defence is leaky and both keepers are dreadfully out of form and confidence.

We should have too much for them, but funny old game Saint and all that...

I live in leamington just outside Coventry and my regular pub going group are all cov fans so they’re the games I really want to win this season!

A fully fit Bryam is the best left back and right back at the club.

Totally agree with this. Real shame with the injuries or I think he would’ve been first name on team sheets for years…..do wonder what 5hey might’ve meant for Max though

  10. Really pleased for him and you’ve got to love his passion.

if he could consistently finish like that or deliver a decent cross he’d be a premier league player. I know people will be calling for him to start now, even if just a reward for tonight, but reality is that he is much better as an impact sub. His pace and directness just causes panic when the defence is tired. If he starts the defence soon realise how to deal with him and that despite his pace they will probably get two or three goes at stopping him.

It’s really important there are players who fans can love and bring some excitement into the game. That’s something that was completely missing in the squad last year. There was Hanley, Krul and Pukki but none really bring edge of the seat excitement ( bit harsh on Pukki maybe and Krul and Hanley got me in the edge of my seat for the wrong reason occasionally!) But when did Normann, Rashica or Tzolis  bring any sense of excitement to a game or did you ever think they actually gave a toss about Norwich?

Can we though? Even at Christmas? I'm not so sure.

Dont think that Josh has gone anywhere yet? Although if we were to get rid of Rashica (which I think we should) I dont see Josh being what we require. We've already got tricky but slow wide players (Sinani, Cantwell and maybe Dowell), what we need is a pacy winger who can actually just beat his man once then pass or shoot (ie an upgraded Hernandez!!)

I dunno I just find him unlikeable probably because he followed farke and probably because he has all the charisma of a wet paper bag.

Wrong fit for the club, got some results finally but still not a Smith fan.

Will take me a lot to join in the deano chant

despite being really pleased with last two games and the performances shown. I don’t think I’ll ever be a huge smith fan and I stand behind my original post in that I still don’t have a sense of connection with him.
I certainly won’t ever be buying a Smith bobble head to replace my Farke one which will always have pride of place in my home!

I've never particularly rated Hanley. Good in the air and in a "backs against the wall" situation, but does not have the required technical ability to play out from the back and prone to getting caught out when we are up the pitch. If the ball is thrown into our box, he's our best chance of winning the header, but other than that, not good enough for me.

I'm of the opposite view in some ways as that's exactly what I rate Hanley for... being good in the air and being willing to get stuck in. Over last few years we've had fullbacks who are good at getting forward but cant defend that well and CBs who can pass but not tackle or head that well (Godfrey/Gibson). I think its important we have a Hanley type centre back to give us some strength, Hopefully Omobamidele can develop a partnership with him and play the more cultured CB role alongside Hanley's more agricultural style.

  14. Honestly I'd just like to see us win and have something to celebrate.

The change in narrative is something else... I want to see the end of excuses and moaning. Instead I'd like the manager and players to show some spirit and come out fighting. Demonstrate what it means to play for what is actually a really decent club.

                            Krul
    Aarons Hanley Omobamidele McLean
                        Gibbs Sara
             Cantwell Nunez Ramsey
                            Hugill

Tin Hat on dropping Pukki but Hugill can hold the ball up or flick it on for runners from midfield

Trying something different with pukki ready to come on if needed after 60 mins

Seems ridiculous dropping Pukki but I agree we do need to try something different. Will be a bit odd for Smith though given on Saturday he was telling Hugil he wasnt good enough for the match day squad (despite having a really good pre season??).

My main hope is that Smith's hand being forced to play Gibbs instead of McLean or Sorenson in midfield could actually end up making our season!
