  1. Ted MacDougall played for Scotland in that infamous 5-1 defeat against England at Wembley in 1975 - he was at City at the time. An Ipswich player (Kevin Beattie) scored one of England''s goals. It''s the only time I''ve cheered a goal scored by an Ipswich player against a team with a City player in it!Ron Davies also played for Wales against England while he was a City player.

  2. I have to confess that for a few years in the early 70s Leeds were very much my second favourite team - this was in the days of Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Allan Clarke etc. I remember as an eight year old being heartbroken when they lost the 1970 FA Cup final replay to Chelsea.Nowadays I just regard them as our promotion rivals, although my son loathes them!

  3. Oddly enough, it has happened at Ipswich before. During the opening game of the 1977-78 season against Arsenal there was a sudden violent downpour which caused the referee to take the players off for a while. I remember it because the game was featured on Match of the Day and I had just got back from seeing City win 3-1 at West Ham!

  4. In my opinion it is madness to force people to journey to matches in this kind of weather. I quite agree with you that it is not worth the risk. Under-pitch heating has a lot to answer for. It should only be used to get games played when there is frost, and not when there is heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions. Your money really should be refunded as you have a genuine reason for not going.

  5. The irony about that 73 Wembley goal is that he wasn''t even in the starting line up - he came on for the injured John Pratt early in the game! He was regarded as one of the most promising players in England while he was at Burnley but never really fulfilled his potential after moving to Spurs. That goal against City was probably the highlight of his career.

  6. Have just seen on the BBC sport website that former City player John Benson has died. He played for City under John Bond in the 70s and was later at the centre of the row when Bond left to manage Manchester City - Arthur South had lined up Benson as his replacement but Benson opted to move to Maine Road with Bond.

  7. I''ve learnt to never say never in football but it will be very difficult to catch Leeds. Even if we played brilliantly in every match for the rest of the season and didn''t lose a game it''s still unlikely because it would require Leeds to slip up as well and I think that''s unlikely. So long as we''re promoted it doesn''t matter if they finish ahead of us.

  8. I was at the game yesterday - did anyone else notice that the Southampton stewards behaviour was a bit odd? For the first twenty minutes of the match they were constantly telling City fans to sit down even though the Saints fans opposite us were all being allowed to stand. This culminated in a group of City fans who had refused to comply being forcibly ejected, resulting in a bit of a scuffle. But after that the stewards just left us to our own devices and nobody else was told to sit down for the rest of the game. Very odd! It felt like the stewards just wanted to make a point and once they''d done that they couldn''t be bothered any more.
