Got to have 8 homegrown players out of a squad of 25 so we'd be in real trouble by that logic!

I think all of those others you mentioned do count as homegrown, rather than Under 21, but I could be wrong.

Plus, Hanley is staying. They said as much recently.

You only need 8 homegrown players if you have a full 25-man squad. As mentioned above, we don't - it's currently 20 including Hanley. We have four homegrown players, which is 'fine' as long as we keep our named squad to a maximum of 21 players, i.e. leaving space for four more homegrown in theory. The rules simply stipulate you can have no more than 17 non-homegrown players.

And the club aren't going to come out and ruin their bargaining position by saying they're interested in selling Hanley. They have no desperation to do it, but if the opportunity comes along they may well send him on his way.

    This.

Also we have to remember that Hanley is homegrown. We don't have many spaces left in the squad for non-homegrown players so we have to be very careful about that should we let him go.

I make it one spot left for a non-homegrown player, two if Srbeny isn't included or is sold.

If Hanley does get moved on, it will leave us with only three home-grown players - Krul, Thompson & Roberts - in our 25-man squad, or 19-man squad as it would be then. Which isn't ideal.

Aarons, Godfrey, Lewis and Cantwell would all be classed as under-21 players, I believe, as born after 1 Jan 1998.

His previous hamstring injuries are a concern, especially for a winger. Some player if he's overcome those issues though and can rekindle his early promise.

    Expect the announcement soon.

Promising first addition. Hopefully those hammies cope with the double Farke training sessions in pre-season.

Re-find that early Celtic form - because he has struggled with consistency in recent seasons, in particular when he came back from injury last season - and it'll be another inspired signing.

  4. Disagree with that final statement, Westcoast. Football tactics change, so there''s no reason why ''old fashioned'' wingers won''t be an important force again. Just look at wing backs. Hardly required 4 seasons ago, then Chelsea do their thing with a back three and all of a sudden they''re a vital commodity once more.

Good luck to the lad. Glad we''ve played some (small) part in another player making their way in the game.

  5. As others have alluded to, the idea we''d simply become ''established'' in the Premier League with some extra investment is bonkers. Who even counts as established these days?

Three clubs that had been in the top tier for a considerable number of years were relegated last season. Then you had Sunderland the season before that, and Newcastle and Aston Villa three seasons ago. Crystal Palace have been in the PL since 2013, yet are still just aiming to stay in the division. This is the reality.

  6. It was an enforced change, but one that Farke correctly dealt with. Credit is due there.

That first half, though, was dreary and toothless. Appreciate Farke was asking the team to be more solid defensively after recent displays, and obviously the best time to get that right is during matches, but we looked so lacklustre for 45 minutes. A happy medium needs to be found, as does his first XI, which I think is the greatest concern.

  7. Decent business by Ipswich for a forward that, although performed well under McCarthy, doesn''t really fit into the new boss'' way of playing football.

More intriguing is Derby again splashing the cash. If they don''t get promoted this season, then surely their spending will catch up with them very soon.

  8. BroadstairsR: "There is however still a chance the game could be streamed online by either club however, with EFL clubs allowed to show some matches on their websites during this season."

Ah! Just read the EDP online report about this and it seems there might well be hope for us yet."

I don''t think that''s the case. I thought this was part of Sky''s new TV deal, which doesn''t start until next season. Would be great if they''ve allowed club''s to begin showing matches before then though.

  9. Purple, I think it''s relatively clear that Davitt''s opinion is closely aligned with that of the club. He indicated as much with his comment on the PinkUn live chat the other day about us being interested in a goalkeeper from 2. Bundesliga.

The name(s) isn''t in the public domain so, unless he''s got contacts in the Germany, I''d assume the information has come from within NCFC and he is sitting on it in order to not annoy the club/jeopardise the transfer..

And Herman, yes, it was Hernandez down the left helping to create our first two goals. He played the pass inside for the third too, after Thompson did well to win the ball back.

Was impressed by Pukki also, who looked very good second half, a touch of the Dirk Kuyt about him. While Ben Marshall at right-back is a tactic that causes some concern. Know he''s played there a lot before, however he''s clearly attacking inclined, and Millwall got the best out of him last season by playing him in a more advanced role.

  11. I''m with lincsy88. If we don''t need to sell Oliveira, I wouldn''t. A class player, when he wants to be, who offers a huge threat for us up top. If he can overcome that attitude issue - which festered for far too long last season - and Farke is able to integrate him into the team, then we''ll be much stronger for it.

If he is to go though, at least it will be on our terms now.

  12. If we''re looking for a young forward who would fit into our system seamlessly, then I''d rather we tried to get Liverpool''s Harry Wilson. Admittedly there''s lots of competition for him.

Or if ex-Spurs youngster Keanan Bennetts isn''t likely to start for Borussia Monchengladbach, get him in. Superb player!

  13. There was an interview with Neil early on this season in which he admitted what most of us had been saying for a while: that he changed his tactics too quickly in line with what the opposition were playing. He went on to say he''d seen the error of his ways, and it seems to be paying off for PNE, who are still in contention for the play-offs despite losing their main striker to West Ham.

Ultimately, that lack of conviction - just as with Hughton before - cost us our place in the Premier League though.
