1. To be fair I think most advocates of the use of technology are only calling dor it''s use on the goal line and not for off-side, tackles, throw-ins or violent conduct (although the authorities are quite happy to use video evidence when cosidering violent conduct or other red card issues). Like it or not there is far too much at stake in today''s game. Just imagine we scored a goal on the last day of the season that meant the difference between promotion or staying in League One and it was not given, just like Birmongham suffered at the weekend. How would you feel about it then?

  2. Exactly my thoughts after watching it CC. I can''t help thinking if it was still Leeds up there instead of us there would be more time devoted to the team at the top. Guess we have spoiled it for the media pundits who expected the ''mughty'' Leeds to be running away with it.

Apart from the lack of Norwich coverage I have to say the show is a very poor relation to the slick and professional MoTD that it follows. I would both care and take note of the comments and opinions of people such as AH, ML, GL and AS...........But this lot, who really cares.

In conclusion. With the exception of being able to see the goals I am very disappointed with all aspects of the show. And as for the Monday night offering! Nuf said I think.

  3. Sadly this is all so depressingly true and as for how to return the spark.......I don''t believe it''s possible. I don''t think the money rollercoaster that has brought the game to where it is now is capable of making a ''u'' turn. Unfortunately, simply put there is far too much money going to far too few clubs. Along with their increased and disproportionate share of the money comes influence. And there lies a major part of the problem; those who are the main beneficieries of the current system are also those who''s support would be needed to change it. It''s never going to happen. And meanwhile more and more less fortunate clubs will go to the wall along with their supporters. There is of course a way to put it right, but as I said before I really don''t believe it will happen. There is of course a possibility of some ''Too Little To Late'' tinkering being done when League 2 isn''t needed anymore because 20 odd clubs have gone bust, but sadly that''s probably the best we can hope for.

  4. This is probably a question for the more mature members of this forum. My mother remembers going to Carrow Road ''sometime'' around the late 1950''s - early 60''s and watching Stanley Matthews play for Stoke against Norwich. She can''t remember the exact year, but is convinced Duncan Forbes was in the Norwich team. I do not believe this is possible because I think Sir Stan finished his playing career in 1965 and went on to manage Port Vale whilst Duncan Forbes did not join Norwich until 1968. However, I have had no success on the internet and would be very grateful if anyone can confirm the last time Stanley Matthews played in either League or Cup at Carrow Road.

  5. The fact is, I have no idea how you have such a total lack of personal pride as to write such garbage and then post it! I don''t just mean the content either, as your grammar and spelling are all of a standard as low as that of your team. As one poster observed, the time your message was posted suggests you were not under the influence of drink. Perhaps it was something else..........Or may be it is simply that you are only seven years old!

Still, I suppose this is the standard we should expect from the Pond Life of Portman Road.

  6. I agree with pretty much every comment made so far, but would just like to add something that has no other foundation than being my opinion. There have been countless threads attacking ''Smith & Jones'' and blaming them for our decline. I believe they are to blame, but only in as much as they entrusted too much power to Doncaster. I''m sure we all remember the "Pudence with Ambition" phrase that was trotted out on a far too regular basis to justify not investing in Premiership quality players when we had the opportunity and the need to do so. I don''t know, but I would put money on the fact that this phrase was coined by none other than ND. He may have had some input into the success achieved by the club in attracting such high season ticket sales, but never the 100% he appears to be claiming. As far as I''m concerned ND is interseted in nothing more than a balance sheet and ironically this has led to the ultimate damage to that same balance sheet as a result of the decline for which, unlike the increased attendances he can claim 100% responsibility.

And now we are in the third division with no money, where is the fool who caused it? Moved on of course; to a position that''s probably even better paid where he can preside over another disaster!

I did wonder, as I still do, what effect that totally misjudged, ill-conceived and unnecessary article in the EDP by the prophet of gloom and doom would have on the squad when I first read it last week. It certainly brought me back to earth with a thump just as I was beginning to feel good again about NCFC. Why wouldn''t it have had the same effect on the players? I''m sure a few of them read the EDP and word would soon have spread amongst the others that despite the success the motivational work of GR seems to be having suddenly good old Doomcaster paints a more depressing picture. On the other hand I suppose there might be an argument to say that now it seems there will be very little money available for GR to bring in new players next month, some of them retreated into their comfort zones knowing their places are fairly safe. A Machiavellian idea maybe but something caused the performance on Saturday evening to dip below recent standards.

I suspect Barry, your thoughts are echoed by most (including Glenn Roeder and the players) and that this is just another example of why so many people are against the board.  Firstly, they should never have allowed that article to have been sent for publication.  Not only is it extremely negative at a time when the mood was finally lifting, it coincides with what appears to be the refusal by the board to pay the asking price for Taylor.  Now I may be completely off the mark here, but I would not be at all surprised if Doncaster has been the policy and decision maker ever since he became CE.  I think it is entirely possible that MWJ, DS, RM etc have entrusted him with far too much power.  He has proved with the writing of this article alone that he has little idea.  I thought the Turners had assumed a ''watching brief'' regarding Mr Doncaster.  Well they weren''t watching very closely on this occasion were they!

  8. The big question is, why should £1m represent such a huge proportion of the money available?  I thought the Turners were good for at least a little more than a £2m loan!  If they are not, what on earth was the point in putting them on the board?  If they are either unable or unwilling to provide furhter funds, then their appointment is a joke.  Taylor is exactly what we need and as all the information suggests, the deal fell through because we were not prepared to pay the asking price.  If that is incorrect, then why is there not an official statement from the club to confirm this to be the case?  It''s all very well not wanting to be ripped-off by another club just because they think they can get away with it, but such principles when you are in such a precarious position as we are could quite easily spell disaster.  5 extremely important games without Taylor..............What the hell are they thinking?  Are they mad?

  9. I hope this situation combined with the Doncaster article on the subject of money (or lack of it) isn''t an indication of the board''s stance remaining the same.  I had hoped that the apparent lack of money available to Grant was a result of their concerns over his choice of players.  I had also hoped that along with the appointment of Glenn Roeder would come money providing him with the support he so obviously needed to perform major surgery on a team destined for relegation.  I had assumed that the extra funds would be made available by the Turners.

I know it may be premature to come to conclusions until we have seen their actions during January, but early indications are not encouraging.  If Glenn Roeder believed the price for Taylor to be too high, then I assume he has an alternative in place for January.  If however, it was the board refusing to spend, we have a problem.

Just being Devil''s Advocate here, but how do we KNOW what funds are available for GR (and PG previously??). Taylor looks as though he may be available to sign, we know GR is going to talk to him this week and he wouldnt be doing that if there was nothing in the kitty. Come January, we will have a clearer picture about this. Ok, the "prudence" thing stuck in the throat a bit, especially at a time when things were decidedly shaky, but actually that is business - no-one can assume inverstors will be queueing up to put their money in.

Up until that fateful day against Fulham, we had experienced a few decent years (getting to play-off at Cardiff, then promotion as champions) and the board was never really under scrutiny. For me their failing was keeping Worthy too long and appointing PG, who turned out to be a disaster - but possibly they have redeemed themselves in the GR appointment, AND allowing him to pick his back-room staff.

I was very disenchanted by the board''s perceived lack of ambition, but for me they have shown that they can be ambitious (maybe the feelings of the supporters got the nessage accross, and if they have learnt from that, then all well and good) - and if they carry on with putting their faith in GR and they do allow him some funds to build on, then let''s not disrupt the club at a time of re-surgency.

I was so upbeat after the Shef U game, and if we continue to play "football" and show the same spirit to play, then the board can do no more (and nor could any other board)....
I agree 100% with everything you have said Albyella.

No doubt there will be attempts made by GR to bring in players during the Jan transfer window that will fall through because the player will not want to come, not because the board are unwilling to pay the price.  However, because the board cannot make such details public, they will undoubtedly have to silently endure the accusations that it was their fault.

We all know, including the board that they have made a number of mistakes, but if they provide the money in January to fully support GR, what else can they do to make amends?

If this is what transpires, then I for one would, in the interests of fairness be happy to see them stay.

I suspect I will now be accused of being a board member and it is likely I will incur the wrath of Arthur too.

right just want your general reactions really on tony pulis

obviosuly he was linked strongly with your vacancy at one point

after last weeks game at stoke and watching them would you been happy taking on pulis?

i know your fairly smitten with glenn at the moment but if he wasnt avialble would you liked pulis?

everyone says they play negative football, but i always think they get good results i.e beating sheffutd away the other night

i also think he seems to be buying wisely last 1-2years in cort, ward, lawerence. and they bought few good loans in shawcross, hendrie, diao in last 1yr

i personally think he has good squad good enough for playoffs, and i think he only needs a 20goal striker to help them push higher
Can''t deny he is getting good results, but don''t think there will be many NCFC fans that would be happy with the physical and route one approach.  To make that style of play work here would require an almost total change of personnel, we just don''t have the players with the build necessary to muscle their way through games like Stoke.  Also don''t think TP would keep a team in the Prem using those tactics.  Worked for the Crazy Gang all those years ago, but the Prem has moved on since then.

  12.
why do people insist on bowing down to smudger in the first place,  you all fall into his pathetic web of sadness. dont reply to his posts and dont go on his threads,  when you see his name stay away. simple.
Best idea yet and surely applies to anyone who causes irritation.........just don''t respond.  They will soon give up as I am sure there is more than one person who posts with the sole intention to antagonise and create unpleasantness among the true fans.

  13. Definitely agree with this, not just because it would probably improve the national team, but it would also ease the strangling effect too many foreign players are causing with regard to the lower league clubs.  Young british talent does not have the opportunity to develop and progress from the smaller clubs as it used to.  This in turn cuts off a large proportion of potential income to these ''nursey'' clubs, money which they sorely need to survive.  How many clubs went into administration before the influx of the foreign legion?  I am not saying it didn''t happen at all, but personally I can''t remember any.
