1. The title says it all really, whats been evident to me is that we lack a decent, consistant midfield who are comfortable on the ball.  Even when Green rolls it out to the defence, they have nobody to pass to, Hughes/Robinson aren''t up to scratch and aren''t comfortable on the ball, and Etuhu doesn''t play often enough for the defenders to know where he''s going (and he might be crap, but I''d like to see him given a proper run with Safri before I make my mind up!).

Rather than the problems this season being down to a culture of "Hoofball" (not sure why we don''t call it direct play or long ball instead either!) I think the problem is simply that once the defence have the ball at their feet, they look up and either see Hughes or Robinson shying away (and who''d trust them anyway!) or find Etuhu too late by which time a striker is on top of them, either way its time to get rid (hence the long ball to clear the lines).

I''m not defending Worthy, my point is simply that the defensive players are not at fault here, the more this happens and the defenders get caught out, the less they want the ball off Greeno, hence it falling back to Greeno to get rid.

A change in manager (when it finally comes) must be accompanied by the purchase of one decent central midfielder then a right winger to sort this out, otherwise even when the new manager says, hughes/robinson drop off to take the ball, would you, as a defender actually want to pass to those reprobates.

Chunky - banners are forbidden by the club (from Doncaster no less, confirming that they represent an unacceptable fire hazard and are likely to inflame crowd trouble... which judging by the Snakepit exclusion when the worthy out chants started is likely to be true) so we cannot take that route - I am aware of fans having such banners confiscated at home games already this season.

If the fickle fans can voice displeasure during a game it amazes me that the same fans cant give up their pint time to protest either pre- or post match to make the same point more forcibly without affecting on pitch performance.
Wasn''t aware of that!  Seems rather over zealous to be honest.  I''ve only been to away games recently and though the atmosphere is poisonous there seems to be no real energy behind this except on this board!I''d join in before and after a game, and at half time, and sign any petition, but during the game I try to support my team.  I''d be lying if I said I didn''t stand up and shout abuse when I''m not happy but I guess only the other fans hear that.OTBCChunky!

  3. I''ve said this before, whilst I want Worthy out, during the ninety minutes the team is on the pitch I support them, whoever they are! (Even Hughes!).  I can see why people aren''t happy, I''m not happy, but I don''t believe the way to approach this is to stick it at the players. The buck stops with Worthy, and Worthy out protests should be before or after the game.  Why not a banner or something?  It got a very good point across at Villa.OTBC!Chunky!

Why should the players’ kids be exempt from whatever is going on?  After all, the children who come and support the team week in week out have had to put up with watching rubbish all season.

Seriously though, I hope the players who are Dads have the common sense to say they won''t let their children on the pitch....

............empty stands, a mass walk-out, slow hand-clap, boos, it won''t be a very happy occasion.

Yeah Yella, and if they don''t listen, we''ll petrol bomb their houses!

    Jesus Christ, get a grip.

  5. Without knowing the ins and outs of Worthy''s contract its hard to see the best way.  There are advantages to sacking Worthy now, but if his contract is renewed every summer, then if we wait until the summer we would not have to pay compensation, obviously better.  The summer is plenty of time for a new manager to bed in, but I sadly believe Worthy would have to shoot Delia''s favourite poodle before he got fired.

However!  I''m not sure Worthy''s contract runs out every summer, or if the meaning of "rolling" is that it always has a year to run until we give Worthy a year''s notice.

  6. This is absolute insanity!

I cannot believe that people think this is the case!  Renewing a contract is not a trivial exercise financially, the board does have the interests of Norwich City at heart, and this is a board exercise, Worthy would have to justify renewing a contract to the board.

I''ve given up, whilst most people now agree we want Worthy out, when the board descends to this level, there really is no hope.

Why do we need a ''proven'' manager? Everyone has to start their managerial career somewhere after all, yet it is exactly this paranoia of making a mistake that dominates the thinking of the Board. I couldn''t give a damn if a new manager is no better than Worthy, at least the Board would have shown the courage to try and that is all anyone can ask.
I''m not saying we shouldn''t take an unproven manager, my point is that an unproven manager may not get the support needed from fans or club during the time they take to get the team and setup settled.  Whilst they might come in and things click instantly, I feel the chances are more in favour of things taking time to come good.

If we were to take a new manager next season and things didn''t work instantly, how long would they have before the chants, etc started again?

  8. This is the problem now, who do we choose, as I see it we have a few options....

    1.   Someone out of contract who has done wrong recently (Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy, etc)

    2.   Someone who has worked well in lower leagues

    3.   Someone who is in contract at another club

    4.   A risk/gamble on an unproven manager

There is another option, a manager out of contract who has a good record (Martin O''Neil, say), but realistically, would you turn down Newcastle for Norwich?!

Its not looking good; I think we should go for a new manager who has done well in lower leagues or our own, but what are the chances of it all clicking straight away?  Chances are we have a little more stormy weather to pass before we have the passing, moving and most importantly winning Norwich back!

  9. There is no reasoned debate, in January I was in the "give worthy time to sort it" camp, and he hasn''t.  He''s had his chance, new manager at the start of the summer, with transfer money available is the way forward.

My only concern is that I can''t see a proven manager available at the moment, so we might end up with an inexperienced manager who needs time to adapt, and in the current climate, will the fans give him a chance?  Or will it be, three months, and the chants start again?

  10. I don''t agree that it is a "Wall of Silence" by Worthy outers, all the games I''ve had the honour of attending this season (especially away games) its more of an air of nervousness and expectation.  Even as far back as Crewe there was none of the singing/chanting/general enjoyment that a Norwich game usually enjoys, nobody could spare the air to sing until we were winning.

I don''t think the "wall of silence" approach will do us any favours, it simply removes one of the main advantages we enjoy at home, and frustrates players.  A frustrated, unhappy player is more likely to leave the club, and the players most likely to get frustrated are those ones which give it their all.

If the (usually vocal) Worthy outers are so desperate that they''re resorting to silence, you''d be better spending your money on a packet of prawn sandwiches and a ticket to Man U.  I shall continue to chant because as much as Worthy is to blame, I want my team to win, and I don''t pay money to sit there in silence.

  11. Very good idea chaps, now not only do I get to watch particularly inept long-ball performances with the occasional glimpse of pass and move football to tease me about what could have been, I get to watch games I pay £30 quid to go and watch them with a bunch of people who don''t want to be there.  I''m not sure why you pay to watch games if all you''re going to do for 90 minutes is sit there making mental notes so you can moan later, or try to get at the team by chanting/shouting.

I had this particular discussion with a guy at Leeds away, in the first half it wasn''t particularly fun to watch so I went to the bar in the bowels of the stand for a couple of pints to cheer myself up.  At half time the guy comes down and starts chanting "Worthy Out" as did a number of people in the stand during the first half.  I said to him that during the game is neither the time nor the place for these "points", however valid, to be made, the time is after the game.  You''ve paid your money to support the club so support, leave this destructive chanting till after the game.

My personal view on this, is that if nobody comes short for Green (Drury or Fleming should) then he has no choice, sometimes a quick throw can very quickly turn round and hit you in the face.

NOBODY WINS WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR OWN TEAM!

  12. I fail to see how you can judge a player after 7 games (I''m assuming you''re correct on that, I have no idea how many games he''s played).  You can''t judge any player after that many games, let alone a midfielder who, I''d wager, hasn''t had the same partner or formation for any more than 4 of those games?!

Everyone is looking for a quick fix, the only one I can think of is convincing Jose Morinho to loan us his entire reserve squad!  We''ve bought in new players, especially in midfield and its bound to be a bit sketchy until the team get used to playing together.  I think, in Etuhu and Safri we have two midfielders who are above average in this league, and together with one from Hughes or Robinson, we''ll be moving somewhere.  We were never going to be able to replace Francis easily or quickly, he was a quality player, and we can''t afford to spend a million replacing him straight out (the old debate of one million-pound player versus two 500k players).

As for a leader, I''d agree that is one thing we''ve been missing since Malky left, but I don''t think that in the premiership he''d have been up to it.  I think this is another problem that will develop its own fix over time, I''ve seen the difference a leader makes in teams, but usually, given time, a new one can emerge.

  13. I fail to see how Doherty & Shackell aren''t better than Mackay!!!  Before we let him go, everyone I spoke to said he was a complete Donkey who just hooved it, and that Fleming was the better centre half.  Edworthy was well past his prime, and I think given time Jurgen Colin will be better.

Again, in the summer, other clubs were after Etuhu and iirc, people on boards (maybe not here) were saying we should sign him.  And now, based on a few less than brilliant performances while the entire team was awful, we''re signing him off as crap.  Reminds me of last season and Doherty tbh, and that was hardly fair.

  14. I completely agree.  I still stand by my assertion, that while Worthy''s performance my have been lacking this season, he is still the best man for the job.I also believe that some signings, Etuhu, and Jarrett, in particular will come good, maybe not Francis good, but good enough.  It is clear Ashton will be going, he''s a bigger player than this club, and he''d be an idiot to turn down a move to the premiership.  He signed a new deal, which has helped him and the club, because it means we don''t have to play our hand and lose him at less than we want to.  If he goes now, we''ll get a decent price, if he doesn''t, we can wait till the summer and his value won''t drop.  Even if we do get promoted, I suspect he''ll go, if teams like Man City and Everton are hovering about, then why not?The rather pointless and non-sensical insults and analysis of the boards actions are disgusting, the board is doing the best for the club, and to hear the board called "short-termist" for using chunks of transfer fees to secure debts is simply stupid.  We all want Norwich to do well, but I''d rather support Norwich in the middle of the championship with a stable financial situation than support them in the relegation zone with a club funded on debt.  We''ve all seen what can happen in that situation.OTBC!Chunky

As for Ashton''s replacement, we should never be in the position where he would either want to be sold/have to be sold.  This, coupled with seeing season after season of dire football is the reason I want him to go and sadly, for me, a run of 5 wins can''t convince me that he''s suddenly got it right.
Are you completely insane?!  If Arsenal/Man U/Chelsea came in for Ashton, he''d be hard pressed not to leave!  Ashton will want to leave Norwich, its just when, he must picture himself playing at the very highest level, and that just isn''t going ot be us.

I can''t understand where some people on this board picture Norwich, I think we should be challenging for the Championship title, but I feel half the problem is that now alot of fans expect us to be able to sign players and find amounts of money that just aren''t realistic.
