1.
What that story from the club doesn''t say is what the renewal figure was and so how many people from the waiting list were needed to make up the shortfall, or what is the size of the waiting list now.
We found that figure in a previous thread.  It was somewhere around the 600 mark. (between 550 and 680 from waiting list numbers iirc).

  2. Shockingly I utterly agree with tangy.

Just to replace those that have left we need a right back, a center back, a left back and a striker, plus the desired replacements for Barnett, Ward, Crofts and replacements for anyone that leaves, and probably a right winger for depth as well.

There is no way that we are going to sign that many players that are obviously better than our first team. We will sign some, but most will be around the level of our other players. Whittaker definitely is around the level of our other players in our defense, not obviously better but not obviously worse either.

Frankly, I''d rather we did get the same level-ish players cheap/free, because it leaves more money for the stars.

  3. In the set of letters before nutty got his (because mine was some time ago now). That means nutty (687) and starks (744) were in the second group, which takes the available tickets after the first group have taken theirs.

That puts the number of available tickets somewhere in the 550 - 686 range, with at least 57 (~ 10%) of those not being taken up. By the looks of that, there are probably only expected to be around 10 or so left after this set. I wouldn''t get you hopes up of being in that set.

On the other hand we do know from this that the club has at least 20,318 season tickets purchased for next season.

  4. "To be perfectly honest, I''m not always convinced of this "old boys brigade" argument. The likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole etc. have been playing champions league football consistently for the past 10 years. Who else has been? Do we really think they don''t care? If they put in performances where they didn''t care, they''d be out. "

Have you watched any England Matches in the last 10 years?

Because performances that show they don''t care is precisely what Lampard and Gerrard (in particular) have served up in every match.

Anyway, why do we want to pass on experience of how to lose at the international level?

  5. Here are some stats:

    Simeon Jackson:

Played at all: 25 points, 20 matches = 1.25 ppm

    Not Played: 18 points, 16 matches = 1.125 ppm

    Started: 19 points, 8 matches = 2.325 ppm

Started, if results stayed as they were: 15 points, 8 matches = 1.875 ppm

    As Sub: 11 points, 12 matches = 0.916 ppm

Bringing Jackson on as a subsitute, net result: -1 point, 12 matches.

Taking Jackson off when he started, net result: 4 points, 6 matches.

    Which look pretty good.

Except for one thing, the teams involved do not compare well. He has started 8 times: QPR, Wigan, WBA, QPR, Bolton, Swansea, Wolves and Man U. We probably should expect quite a high points average there, given 7 of the 8 teams involved. The low impact he has had as a substitute does tend to suggest it may not be continued should he have played more matches against other opposition.

  6. Gruff, as far as I can tell, you are arguing that the Transfer price index approach is the most accurate indicator of performance. However, you seem to have entirely failed to grasp that approach, which is based on attempting to measure the transfer cost of a squad, as it was assembled, rather than what the team paid that particular summer.

Also PC - allowing him to conflate the total wages to turnover ratio with the player wages to total wages ratio? I am ashamed of you.

  7. I don''t think that there will be a clear out in the summer. There will be changes, maybe even many changes, but not a clear out.

A clear out to me says that the player leaving is an important aim of the process. But with the squad at the moment, I think that keeping the current player will be somewhere between Plan C and Plan E, even in the spots Lambert wants the strengthen.
