I agree with what you say HY in that one factor will effect everything else. But I also think the OP is correct in that it was Roeder who ripped our team to shreds and set us up for relegation the following season. Without that, it is unlikely that the major changes in the personal running the club would have taken place. In the end, it is really Delia and MWJ that we have to thank for bringing in McNally and co., who were then able to recognise Gunn was an unsuitable manager and who quickly and decisively brought in Lambert and his team. Even McNally could not have foreseen that just 2 years later we would be in the Premiership though.
So I do agree that Roeder''s near destruction of the club was the major catalyst for what has happened since. And I for one, in addition to the OP, am now grateful for those events taking place, despite Roeder''s actions causing me to throw in my season ticket just a few weeks before he was thankfully given the boot. Its great to have a club that I can support 100% again.

You are spot on Captn Canary, we should all be on our knees to thank Delia and MWJ. Without their inspired choices of Peter Grant followed by Glenn Roeder and then the real moment of genius, the appointment of Bryan Gunn and then his re-appointment after he got us relegated, we must all surely wonder where we might have been today.

Thank God she can do no wrong.

This ''it is really Delia and MWJ that we have to thank for bringing in McNally and co'' should have read ''it is really Delia and MWJ that we have to thank for finally seeing the light and bringing in McNally and co''
I am by no means a Delia/MWJ worshipper. They spent many years proving that they had no idea how to run a football club. There is little they have done that has been good for us. But I think its great that they finally admitted defeat and brought football people in to the board room to run the club how it should be run.

  3. You are right that Lambert did say that. But don''t you think he probably has something close to his starting line up in his head? I would think tonight''s starting line up might contain something like 8 of the starters for the Wigan game, despite what he says publicly. Surely he wants his main partnerships to work together as much as possible.

  4.
Is this so important as it''s the only way most of you get to find out the results?
Don''t try to turn this into an ''I''m a better fan than you lot cos I''ve got a Season Ticket'' argument. Its been done to death and there are many perfectly good reasons why many people cannot attend games, (work commitments, family, cost, location, etc.) and its not like there are thousands of empty seats available is it? Some people need radio Norfolk just so they can follow the games every week - thats why its important.

Gareth Southgate had a partner called Norman ?

He means Norman Pace (Of Hale & Pace), who is now a kept man, supported by his Poker Playing wife! I''ve met them a few times on Poker trips with Ladbrokes.

Who cares unless its part of a general discussion about which three teams will be at the bottom of the table at the end of the season and my suggestions are: QPR, Wigan and West Brom.

I expect Norwich to finish in the top half of the table and I have put money where my mouth is but to continue to be successful I think we need another 8,000 seats at Carrow and we can do that by building a second tier on the City Stand. There after success will only continue with a new ground built on the South side of the City to hold 55,000.

The plans need to be laid now.. I always remember Colin Chapman having a 50 year plan for Lotus and we need a twenty year plan for NCFC. at least.Hopefully our Chairman has the experiance and ability to lay such a plan.

I doubt we would ever fill a 35k seater on a regular basis. There have only been 21 occasions when we have exceeded that figure in our entire history and most of those were 40-50 years ago.In fact the last gate over 35k was in 1975.

As for 55k, it will never happen. Only 4 gates have ever exceeded 40K. I would say a 40k stadium would be more than adequate for our needs into the forseeable future.
I''m not sure that your argument holds water when talking about our big attendances being many years ago. Its been many years that we have been limited to around 25k. There have been games since when we would possibly have beaten those old records had the seats been available. Would you think the Bayern game may have been our biggest attended game ever if people could have got in? Maybe, maybe not. But in recent years our season ticket sales have grown and grown breaking records for us nearly every year. That suggests that supporting our club is probably more popular than ever. The population of Norwich has also grown massively since those old records were set. I have no idea how many fans would attend regularly but I don''t think 55k is a total dream, and certainly not based on the argument of attendance records having been set in ''the olden days''.

  7.
The players coming in might suggest that we''re onto the "yo-yo" year of the 7 year plan, perhaps ?
My thoughts exactly Blah. The idea being to sign players that might keep us up but who would also be able to help us to promotion again should the worst happen. It has to be the correct strategy in my eyes too. It gets us back onto a secure financial footing and at the same time gives us a shot at another £40m+ if we manage to survive. If we do stay up, which I think we will, I expect we can expect to see more expensive signings coming in each year to make us an established Premiership team.

  8. I don''t get why people keep saying we have spent very little. This is I believe our biggest close season spending spree ever all ready and the total will no doubt increase before the window closes. It may be a relatively small chunk of the £40m that people like to talk about, but I would guess half of that sum is all ready spent on wages and other expenses. I''d be very impressed if we managed to spend another £5m before the season starts.

  9. Whilst using the club logo was a BIG no no, the rest of it, i.e. colours and On the Ball name, I am sure are fine. If you told the club you were removing the logo but would continue to produce the beer with the same colours and name, there would be little they could do. I suppose they could threaten to sue you for the previous use of their logo, but I would expect they would not be able to do that as you have complied immediately with their request for you to stop using the logo. Without the use of the logo you would be doing no more than many other businesses in the city who use canary in their name and the club colours. There is even a Canary Car Wash up the road from me now!

You seem to be scared of landing a huge bill should you take on the club in legal action. However, I would suspect this would not be the case as the club really would have no case against you with the logo being removed. Also, would they really want to pursue action against you without the logo and with only tenuous claims on copyright regarding anything else to do with the product. Would they really want to waste £1000? £10000? £50000? And all in the fans eye! I doubt it very much. Why not speak with some solicitors in the city. You will probably find that some will offer a free 30min or hour consultation. Who are Foster''s biggest competitor? They might even offer to act for you for free given the publicity an action would undoubtedly generate. Why not get a legal consultation and ask for a letter from them saying why the club have no case against you. Send that to the club and tell them you intend to continue with the product albeit without the club logo and possibly with a disclaimer on the label stating the product is not affiliated to the club. It seems crazy to abandon the product if it does well for your business.

  10. I have a theory on this one. I think we want CMS but only at the right price and I think CMS really wants to play for us. I think he knows we have made an offer on him and thats the one he wants but fat Barry wants him to go elsewhere because of a better offer. I think CMS is prepared to say its Norwich or nowhere and hope that Peterborough let him go where he wants to go. He knows that they will get nothing for him next summer and is willing to call their bluff and risk staying with Peterborough next season. After all, he would be playing in the Championship this season, which isn''t too shabby. My bet is that he comes here or goes nowhere (so he walks for free next summer) and Barry won''t like it one little bit.

  11. I think most likely they are all ready here. I think it makes sense to go for your most expensive signings first as if they do or don''t go through you then know where you are at with your budget. Like you say, we have made 2 of our most expensive signings ever. It seems like we tried to get Snodgrass but only at a reasonable price. So I think we might get 1 more in up to £3.5m but probably nothing more than that. And I''ve no problem with that as we are witnessing our biggest ever spending spree so how can we complain?

    Welcome back!

As you say I''m sure most fans feel the same about the defence. I think Tierney & Martin will be good enough and I would back Barnett but the other centre back spot needs upgrading.  Richard De Laet will obviously be coming in but it''s hard to judge how effective he would be and where he will play precisely.

Lambert claimed to be looking at 6 or 7 signings this summer. Vaughan, Morison, Bennet, De Laet & Johnson leave 1 or 2 left. We''ve spent around £6M - £7M out of the £40M ... even bearing in mind extra wages and leaving some for January are we to expect some huge transfers (possibly at the back) to complete the job?
If we are keeping some back for January, I doubt very much that we will spend more than £10-12m in total this summer. The wage bill will take a big chunk of that £40m and I also expect some of that 40 to go on other things like reducing the debt a little.
