1. Thanks Smudger, although I think BigFella''s ''where it went wrong'' takes some beating.

I used to be a very regular poster in the early days of this forum, but now I just don''t get the time. Today though, I had to put my thoughts down.  I am not going to pretend that I have always agreed with things you say on here, but I think we are thinking along the same lines in terms of the future.

It feels perverse to write it down, but it might just be that relegation could actually be what this club needed, if it finally galvanises people into action.

This club doesn''t just need change - it has to happen - and fast, but people do have to realise that recovery is going to take quite some time.

  2. Well the inevitable spineless end to a spineless season has come to bear its rotten fruit.

Since 38 years ago ,when at the age of seven I was given my first (and my only - I still have it) yellow and green scalf for Christmas and my journey of joy and dispair began, the club has never been at such a low.

We have a board who are just like New Labour, snouts in the trough and out of ideas; a team that doesn''t belong to us; an inexperienced manager and coaching team; up to our eyeballs in debt; an ineffectual supporters group in NCISA; and totally ineffectual supporter representation at the club in terms of the SCG who are just part of the Carrow Road spin machine.

Oh, for the fanzine days of the late 80''s to mid 90''s, where there was some real bite in the supporters. With regards to the retrospective comparison with the Chase days, and how we''d be better off now if we still had him in charge, those people are being just as rose tinted and unfocused as some are now being over defensive of Delia. It was the supporters that got Chase out, and good job too. The situation now is different, and no where near a bitter as it was with Chase, it''s more that there has now been a total breakdown in faith and respect for those that run and represent our club. I predict the ultimate outcome will be the same and one way or another Delia will want, or will be forced out.

Just as our exit from the Premier League happened at about the worst possible time as the really big money started to flow, we now have the very real prospect of a Premier League 1 and 2 with 36 teams including Celtic & Rangers that will distribute the TV coverage millions amongst at least some of the unwashed. Now we aren''t even in contention for that. It is a shambolic situation to be in.

"Little Norwich" indeed. It is just not good enough to portray us in this way and that ABSOLUTELY IS Delia''s fault.

The club quite simply needs a clearout from top to bottom. There is no way I am going to ''give back'' my refund on my season tickets. In fact the club would garner alot more respect if they just acknowledged the failure and gave it back without us having to tug our forelocks once more.

Delia and MWJ are the majority owners, they could step back from their hands on roles, whilst allowing in some fresh ideas. Just because you own the shares you don''t have to run the company on a day to day basis. However, their majority position will remain until a buyer can be found. But like with any other investment, they have to realise value can go down as well as up, and at the moment it is right down there with Woolworths. If they don''t let go, there is a real prospect that our club could spiral out of existance. It''s just like Chinese Junk Bonds - the certificate may say £1,000,000 but the value is pence. Delia has to put a realistic value on the club and let it go. Sorry Delia, your money is lost, you backed the wrong horse, its over - time to go.

Doncaster, as the CEO, is responsible to the shareholders for maintaining share value. He quite clearly has failed in that remit. The club is reported to be losing £10,000 per week yet have a chief executive earning a reported £190,000. Well there''s nearly a £4,000 per week saving to start off with. If any other business could cut their weekly loses by 40% so simply I think it would be done at a flash. He has to go, and it is the shareholders responsibility to do exercise that boil on the face of the club. Be prepared for a Fred Goodwin sized exit cost to this but that''s the shareholders fault too.

Munby has also run out of ideas. The rest of the faceless board is also spent - they have no voice - no ideas - no value.

Gunn, unfortunate as it is, cannot manage this club - he is just plain and simply too nice. I''m not going to vilify the man, he is a Norwich legend who has had to ride the biggests up''s and down''s of what life can throw at anyone. I saw him on football focus yesterday and I thought he looked ill and I for one don''t want to see him suffer ill health because of our situation. There is no doubt that the man cares about Norwich City, but I honestly don''t think he''s right one to take us forward in the manager role at the current time.

Onto the players. One thing that sums up the season has been a total lack of quality. What summed this up for me is when I asked my 12 year old son who we should keep he struggled to pick anyone out. The name that came out eventually was Doherty. My daughter was more direct - she said Huckerby. Now putting aside the fact that he doesn''t play for us anymore, she was spot on - if that man would not have won us 6 extra points this season then I''m a monkey''s uncle. The current group of players are simply not good enough now, and they won''t be good enough in League 1 either.

A team needs to be built again, and everyone needs to face facts - that is going to take some time. We need to start at the back and get a keeper who comands his area and the respect of the team. Marshall isn''t that man. Forget the £1m price tag - it was a bum deal and move on.

I just don''t think the supporters have the stomach for the rebuilding that is needed under the current regime. Under new blood, with the clarity and ambition needed, we might just get through it.

Regime change can be good - its time to send in the troops - and those troops are you and I.

  3. Away at Spurs - I think it was a league Cup Quarter Final.

A major news story at the time was about Norway culling 50 million seals in the artic wastelands (probably a slightly inaccurate interpretation of the facts but close enough to set the scene).

It was also the era of the inflateable.

Eric Thorsvedt was in goal - in front of the massed Norwich ranks. Someone had a lifesize inflateable killer whale, someone else had a huge comedy hammer and preceeded beat seven bells of **** out of the killer whale which was amusing enough but it was followed by a chant "Eric Thorsvedt, Eric Thorsvedt, What''s it like to club a seal? Wha-at''s it like to club a seal? ''aarc!, ''aarc!, ''aarc!, ''aarc!" clapping hands above heads flipper style.

We lost the match, but that kept me going for several weeks.

    Great thread by the way....

  4. NMTD

My goodness - how PC do we have to get - it isn''t even as if they are actually naked. Keep ''em loud and proud. If you don''t like it, you don''t have to use the site.

I have no avatar, but it makes me want to put one up of two bald heads with cherries on.

As one concession - how about an option for a user to say ''don''t show avatars'' - maybe that would keep everyone happy.

  5. Well done NCISA!

I posted before the meeting with my concerns/recommendations and I am glad everything went so well.

This could be a real turning point for the organisation. I have one further point - if there is any surplus, then the money should be kept with NCISA for its own benefit. Its all well and good raising money for the academy, but you should not ignore yourselves. If NCISA built up a surplus for its own ends, it would then maybe have some cash to invest in increasing its membership.

To me, it seems totally legitimate that NCISA should use funds raise to strengthen its own organisation and hence represent the fans ever stronger.

  6. Having organised a similar meeting through my fanzine that fillled The Waterfront club back in the dark days of a certain Mr Chase over the imposition of all seater stadia, that was to a great extent highjacked by Big Bob himself, I would offer the following comments for all sides.

    • Please attend whether you are NCISA members or not - it is your chance to make a difference whether you believe it or not. Our apathy is the clubs strength.
    • Respect the chair of the meeting as it will be very difficult for that person - whoever it is/whether you like them or not.

    To NCISA

    • Don''t under any circumstances allow the club to highjack the meeting if they were to turn up. This meeting is to represent the fans views, not the clubs.
    • State the meetings objectives and do set some kind of timed agenda to cover all the issues at the start of the meeting.
    • Make sure the outcome is sent to the club/press professionally and curteously but don''t hold back - its a big opportunity to speed change.

    In general

    • Use this meeting to get closer to the fans - as an organisation you are too anonimous - when things are as they are you should have 5000 members not a few hundred
    • Act truely independently - you feel too close to the club to many fans - you should be putting the fans first and foremost.
    • Raise the issue of the SCG (Supporters Consulative Group) being a closed shop aggressively with the club. Do fans actually realise the people on it are on it for life? Do fans actually know who is on it and how to get their views represented?- No! NCISA should be addressing the lack of democracy regarding the SCG and filling the gap.
    • You have to question whether you have the correct person in charge. I know Roy, and he truely is a big City fan, doing an incredible amount to raise money for the club etc, but because of this he is and appears quite close to the club. You need to have someone who appeals to young and old alike, can communicate well, and isn''t afraid to ruffle a few feathers, and has nothing to lose in terms of relationship with the club. A ''Richard Balls'' type character is what you need.

I wish I lived locally rather than 90 miles away, and could allocate the time to NCISA (I''m not a member) as I think it has the potential to be THE supporters mouthpiece, but its just not doing it effectively. Get out there, build your membership, and do what they want you to do.

Its time for change - and we all know it.

  7. ... well its obviously the fault of people like you and me who post on website chat forums. The people that pay through the nose to support a club through thick and thin (in these days thin and thinner) travelling hundreds of miles, home and away spending a high percentage of our daily bread, on our beloved Canaries..

I''m surprised we haven''t heard this from our club, but I''ll tell you something, the comments from Worthington at the AGM, and quickly followed up by Doncaster simply shows what a mess our club is in.

If the club were concerned about the so called rumours, why wait so long to quash them? - They''ve been doing the rounds for ages...

When any business tries to wheel out the ''cosy old boy network of support'' and deflect blame onto its customers, its in a real sorry state. This was nothing other than a classic diversionary tactic. It doesn''t work with me.

Board members, managers and players are transient in any club - fans are always there - and fans nearly always get there own way in the end. Remember Hamilton?, Remember Chase? You should, because its going to happen again in 2 weeks time unless these muppets pull their fingers out of their va-va-vooms.

I am now in the firm belief that we need to start completely afresh, its not just time for the manager to go, its time half the squad did too, including some of the star names who I think may just be pulling the others down due to their over inflated ego''s and pay packets. Others are just plainly not good enough.

This is going to be painful for everyone, us included, so lets get it done and move on.

NMTD - Forever Yellow & Green.

  8. Cheekey M, you make a very good point when you say that you are not looking forward to game on Saturday and how depressing that is to feel like that.

This is EXACTLY how mini-NMTD reacted. When I said about going next Saturday he shrugged his shoulders and said ''if we have to - we''ll probably lose''

The only way I could cheer him up was to say that we''d be meeting up with one of his best friends as usual which to him was more appealing than watching the match.

As a Canary Dad - that IS depressing.

  9. I had the utter misfortune of going to the QPR match at the weekend along with Mini-NMTD.

Mini-NMTD summed it up precisely when he said that if they had a spare shirt he could have done better - he''s 9 years old.

He said to me that the best part of the day was the train/tube ride into London - which cost me £1.

Put that into the context of the £40 ticket costs plus travel/food/drinks that I had to pay out to watch that bunch of headless chickens (maybe they''ve all got avian flu?) prancing around the pitch and it won''t take long for support to drift away.

Delia, I''m afraid your statement last night is way wide of the mark.

Loyalty is an admirable quality in anyone, but there comes a time when it becomes a hindrance rather than a positive. Fans will simply stop coming / renewing their season tickets / buying merchandise etc if performances like we''ve seen this season continue. It is these ''fair weather'' supporters that effectively allow a club to grow due to the finances they bring in.

I read in the London Evening Standard last Friday the preview for the QPR game - it said that there was a strange smell about whats going on at Norwich at the moment. I agree - something is not right - and it is the managers job to put it right - but inside the club sometimes things become too entrenched for people to see it when he can''t. I suggest thats whats happening - heads in the sand simply will not do.

"Little Norwich" as you term us are going to become just that unless there''s a change. I wonder if Bolton, WBA, Wigan, Fulham, Portsmouth, and Blackburn in the Prem, who all have lower average attendances than us, regard themselves and promote themselves as "Little"? Small mentality gives rise to small performance.

As for injuries, its always the case that a team performing badly has more injuries, and that they take longer to ''heal'', than one doing well, because the players don''t actually want to play in an underperforming side.

Think long and hard about it, you have alot more invested in this club than most, and no-one disputes what you have done for us, but make that loyalty to the club, not the man. It''s hard, as I''m sure you regard Nigel as a friend and good man which we are all sure he is - no-one is criticising him as a person here - but now could be time for everyone to move on.

  10. I''m fine thank''s DD, It''s nice to be remembered. It must have been due to my intellegent comments and acerbic wit!

Yes its true i''ve been "away" for a long time, as I just haven''t had the time to post but I am still a regular reader.

I''m now working at a internet company down in London which gives me a little time to get on here so I hope to make more posts again now, but I might not get upto the volume of the early days when I was working from home.

Despite having two 5 year season tickets for me and mini-NMTD we''ve only managed 1 home game so far this season (Coventry) due to holiday and the fact I''ve been doing my FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate on Saturdays (Sven watch out!) but hopefully normal service will be resumed from next Saturday v Millwall. And before anyone goes on about not using my tickets, they did go a good cause - ie. other City fans!

  11. Away at Spurs in league/littlewoods/worthington/milk cup or whatever it was at the time....

I think we''re talking late 80''s early 90''s but Eric Thorsvedt (forgive spelling!) was in goal and it was the age when inflateables were all the rage.

The big news story of the time was that Norway had just resumed seal culling / whaling and the Norwich fans barracked Thorsvedt with chants of "What''s it like to club a seal?, What''s it like ..to.. ..club.. ..a.. seal?" followed by projected seal noises "Arrgh!, Arrgh!, Arrgh!, Arrgh!" with clapping seal style above our heads.

Whilst that was funny enough, what topped it off was that someone brought an inflateable killer whale, and someone else had a giant hammer and the whale took one hell of a beating!

Not very PC but in my opinion all the better for that.

  12.
I don''t mean any disrespect, but this is the pinkun website, can''t you at least try reading it? "But, speaking to the EDP last night, Mr Wynn Jones said there was “no link whatsoever” between the buy...
ob1 - With all due respect - actually made my posting on Monday night BEFORE the Pinkun had the story on the site so why don''t you note the time of the post?

  13. Hello All

Yet again, its been a real long time since I''ve made a post on here, so here''s a big hello to all my old sparring mates on here! I hope you are all well despite City''s putting us through the mill this season.

Buying Ashton is a great move, for all the reasons that have already been said - but I think a great deal of thought has been put into NEXT season with this purchase. Should we go down, and lets face it, it is a real possibility (and no I''m not being defeatist - just realistic) we have got ourselves a fantastic striker who''s already proven at the level.

Its hard for top strikers outside the premier to make the step up - there are not that many that have really made it - Defoe, and Johnson as notable exceptions although the latter could be a one season wonder - remember a certain Mr M. Stewart. There is going to be huge pressure on Ashton to deliver and help to keep us up, but we must be patient if it doesn''t happen for him straightaway - personally I''ll give him until 20 minutes into the Villa game to bag his first hat-trick or I''ll be calling for his head

Anyway - onto the main, albeit brief topic of the post - where has the sudden injection of cash come from....

According to the London Evening Standard tonight (10th) Delia and Michael sold their publishing company, New Crane, for a reported £7m. The article doesn''t make it clear if that was just Delia''s or their joint share of the sale.

    Has Delia dug deep again?

Whatever, if I ever hear anyone say that this board lacks ambition again I''ll swing for ''em!

PS. The Standard also says it was Palace that bid £3m for Harewood.

  14. Hi everyone

I am hoping to make it to Squares on Saturday - probably about 1.45 - 2.00.

My son is playing football in Knebworth near Stevenage in the morning but we hope we''ll make it there in time.

    Is everyone upstairs or downstairs?

Oh - any why don''t they have more staff in on a Saturday - it takes AGES to get served sometimes!

  15. Its a long time since my last post on this board due to a new job keeping me so busy that I never seem to get a chance these days.

But its Saturday, its a late k.o. and my sons team doesn''t start playing Saturday mornings for a couple of weeks yet - so no need for an early drive up the M11 for us today.

I thought what better use of my time (the missus would probably say - wash the car, tidy the garden etc etc) than to check out my old virtual friends on the pinkun msg board!

In the last week I have been trying to convince myself that we will get a total spanking today so as to be not too disappointed on the journey home.

However, something niggling in the back of my head just makes this ''does not compute''.

Everytime I try to check myself by saying, ''nah it can''t possibly be'', or ''i''m looking through rose tinted glasses'', for some strange reason, I think we might, just might, be in dreamland at 19.15 today.

Anybody else feeling like this as we build up to the match?

One things for sure - I will be singing my heart out for the lads today whatever happens. Lets show everyone that those Pompey fans aren''t the only ones that can get behind their team.

  16. www.sportsbooksdirect.co.uk are setting Iwans book for 14.99 with free delivery.

It even says on the site that they are signed copies but I''m not sure if this applies to mail order.

Now I want it anyway, so a signature would just be a Brucie Bonus, but I thought I''d share the discovery.

PS. They are a reputable site - part of the excellent SportsPages bookshop in London - and no I don''t work for them.

Saves standing in those pesky queues at Jarrolds etc!

  17. Well pin me down and tickle me with a feather.

Thanks to Kathy for spotting my post from way back - I distinctly remember making that post to this forum only for the mods to move it to the obscure outback of the site.

I am glad that apparently 9 out of 10 people share my view.

Bumbling idiots. "England''s other City" - what absolute hogwash. Makes us sound second class.

Forever England, Forever a Fine City

Now just crawl back under the stone from where you came and leave us alone. If you want to help take your slogans to some godforesaken place like Middlesborough.

  18. Well, I couldn''t stay away for ever!

Been a tough three weeks in the new job, and I''ve been just too knackered to get logged on. I''ve missed it terribly. I even had to rely on a Hull City fan to tell me we''d got Bentley today.

So whats all this ''balls in alignment'' stuff. Well several weeks ago I was very concerned about Wiz''s ''cloudy balls'' - but reading back through the threads I see a quite outstanding prediction about Palace - so they must be clearing up quite nicely.

Well, I bought 2 new pairs of trousers at the weekend, and everything in my spherical department is now well and truely ship shape and bristol fashion!

This leads me, somewhat nearer to the point, that confidence re next season is rising in Chez NMTD.

I am certain, neigh convinced, that Crouchy is on his way - it just all adds up. The alignment is true and just - he''ll be with us soon.

If I''m wrong - blame Matalan!!

Hopefully I''ll be able to pop back now and again and check on how everyone is doing - DD will undoubetly be past the 1000 post milestone - top marks! Glad to hear Mrs Wiz is doing well and starting to fancy some of the ''young pups'' - ooooh young man!

  19. Well, my numbers finally up.

By my reckoning this is my 306th post.

Maybe 96 of them have been worth reading!

Am I to be cast aside at this glorious time because I am too old? Will I ever be able to come ''home'' again?

I have been ''transferred'' to a new job on Monday, which whilst it will restore family NMTD''s finances to something resembling normality, it will mean that I might not be on here quite as much in the future - certainly not as much during the day.

But I will try and keep up with whats going on, and the thoughts of my virtual friends.

You haven''t heard the last of me yet - whether you want to or not!!

  20. In days gone by I used to only think there were two teams that were worth caring about - Norwich City and Norwich City Reserves.

Whilst no-one will ever ever replace my No1 love I do have a particular soft spot for Leyton Orient. When I first moved away from Norfolk I ended up in a bed sit in Leyton so on the odd occassion I didn''t get to see City I used to go down to Brisbane Road.

I met a good bunch of lads, and I even joined their supporters club for a year - where I was known not by my name but just simply as "Norwich".

I still look out for their score each week although no longer living there.

There are various other teams I look out for, mostly just the teams other friends support but the O''s have a special place in my heart.

Anyone else have any ''second teams''?

  21. Another gazza post I agree with today!

There''s nothing like being told you are unwanted/useless by a former club to make you turn round and want to stick two fingers up at all those doubters.

Just look at how many players score against their previous clubs....

Hucks will need no motivation next season to prove people wrong - and I for one will delight in him ramming those accusations back down peoples throats for us next season.

Just let him play - he''ll do the job for us.

  22. Unless I am mistaken - anyone, anywhere, with practically any DVD player can play DVD''s with any region encoding by switching the region setting of their DVD player to that of the DVD disk (or use Region 0 for multiregion playback) by entering a few simple commands via the remote control.

There are no NTSC / PAL issues to worry about either.

The manufacturers do not print how to do this in the user guide but the good old internet has everything you need.

    For example see

    http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/hackable.asp?Page=1

    http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&g=info&s=3&k=&x=5&y=9

or enter the make and model number with "multiregion" into a web search and you will almost certainly find the remote control key sequence you need for your particular machine.

I have a Cyberhome 402 and I have no problems playing DVD''s from any region after choosing the correct menu option that comes up after using the remote control key sequence required.
