  1. Just thinking about how good Rashica would be in this team now with the proposed style of football we will be playing under Wagner.

So frustrating that there isn’t a recall option in the loan agreement. Definitely shouldn’t be looking to sell him in this window, unless it’s for a healthy profit and we use the money to get a defensive midfielder and a winger/wide attacking midfielder in.

Why is it so hard for us to fill this role? Seems to be a constant nightmare.

Spot on, it’s ridiculous and I can’t understand how this hasn’t been sorted. It’s such a vital part of the team. Sort that position out and this season could take a turn for the better.

  3. Is to sort out our midfield, it’s the most important positions in the team and where a game is won and lost. If we are to play 2 up front, Pukki and Sargent are quality in this league.

The defence is getting a lot of criticism at the minute but it’s not really their fault, our midfield has not offered much protection.

We need another Skipp like defensive midfielder to allow the likes of Giannoulis and Aarons to get forward. It would also allow Nunez to flourish and to try and get Cantwell in this team to create more than what we are. Taking Skipp out of our team has made the likes of Gibson and Giannoulis look average at best compared to when they both came in on loan. Hayden has just not worked, if possible I would be looking to terminate the loan and look for someone else on loan with an option to buy.

We also need more options out wide and to try and get a bit of balance back in the squad. We could do with getting rid of the dead wood in this window if there are any takers, players like Sinani, Placheta and Dowell.

Big January for Wagner and Webber.

  4. People really have their scapegoats don’t they. If we didn’t have Hanley in our back 4 we would have conceded so many more goals.

Our midfield and further afield is where the problem lies. Our defence has no cover. Just have a look how much better we were as a team when we had Skipp and Buendia in it. Having Sargent, Idah and Pukki up front miles apart from each other was not the best tactic. No quality defensive midfielder in our team coupled with that front 3, our defence will struggle.

  5.                          Krul/Gunn

    Byram    Hanley        Gibson     Dimi/McLean

                      Nunez    Hayden

    Aarons                                        Hernandez

                       Sargent     Pukki

Gunn or Krul, I would say Krul’s distribution is better but we don’t use Gunn as much with his feet.

LB depends if McLean wins his appeal which I’m not sure he will, Dimi if not.

Hayden to sit and protect, Nunez to get forward and help with creativity with Aarons next to him he will have the license to get forward as Aarons can help with the defensive side.

Hernandez has to start as he changed the game on Tuesday night as we went from a team who doesn't look dangerous to a team that could get back into the game with 10 men. Made Luton’s defence have to think about balls in behind and something different.

Sargent and Pukki together is a lot more dangerous than one or the other. Never write off Pukki, he should definitely start.

Ambitious names maybe but are they in any way realistic?

Knutsen: Managing in Norway so I guess that represents a step up but they still have European football to look forward to in the new year.

Martino: Currently managing Mexico so is presumably in the middle of preparing for the world cup. Big question mark on whether he'd even be interested in the job.

Fischer: Union Berlin manager. Top of the Bundesliga and also in the Europa League right now.

I think Martin is a good pick, it's not without risk but that's the level we are at right now. Martin, despite being only 36, is now in his third full season of management. If he had stayed with MK Dons last year I suspect we'd likely be coming up against them this year. Our squad is good enough and the league bad enough that if we find a manager who can get our midfield players playing to a decent level we should go up easily.

Granted, they are ambitious but who knows if they are realistic.

Knutsen we have been linked with before so maybe some good connections/talks previously. In Norway so even the Championship is maybe a step above that or at least on par.
Martino is one who we would obviously have to wait until after the World Cup to get but his contract is up at the end of the year. Plays really high intensity pressing and attacking football which is what most of us fans want to see. One to keep an eye on.

Fischer is probably the most ambitious one looking from the outside as they are as you say currently top of the Bundesliga but obviously they won’t stay there with the likes of Munich chasing them down and much further back Dortmund. But as we all know the place to be is in England and the Prem. That is the project we would have to sell him and of course the state of the art training facilities etc.

That is just 3 Coaches who I like the look of, plenty more out there. We just have to hope Webber pulls the trigger and gets rid of Smith before it’s too late and gets the right person this time who has a certain way of playing and also has a Plan B and C when it’s not working. Also would like to see someone who could create a connection with our fan base as it’s always going to help (Farke and Lambert). It also makes us feel more involved and definitely improves the atmosphere in the stands.

Definitely agree about our midfield, that is where the game is won and lost.

  7. Go and get Kjetil Knutsen, Gerardo Martino or Urs Fischer If we can. Ambitious names but we have to show that ambition.

Failing that there are plenty of other Coaches/Managers out there that would do a better job than Smith.
Even Martin I would much rather have than Smith. At least there would be a connection with the fans, a real direction in which you can see how the team wants to play. Swansea play some real nice football but without the individual quality that we probably possess. Would show more fight.

  8. I don’t think the back four picks itself, I would much rather have McLean at LB than Byram. I don’t think Byram offers us anything there especially when you consider Preston will probably come to park the bus and sit narrow. Our play will only go inside if Byram is there as he doesn’t ever go on the outside.
I would also play Hernandez on the left as he offers us pace and to stretch the opposition, he’s the only player who offers us that and we look a lot better when we have that variety in our game to switch it.

    So for me the team would be;

    GK. Krul

    LB. McLean

    CB. Hanley

    CB. Andy

    RB. Aarons

    CM. Gibbs

    CM. Nunez

    AML. Hernandez

    AMC. Cantwell (if fit)

    AMR. Sargent

    ST. Pukki

  9. If we are to go up we should be focusing more on buying the best players from the Scottish League, Championship and maybe 1 or 2 if they are something special from League 1.

it was obvious how good the likes of Toney, Bowen, Olise, Eze, Aribo, Konsa and Watkins were going to be, just to name a few in recent times.

With the amount of players (and I don’t think it’s a bad thing) that are out of contract at the end of the season, the recruitment will have to be a lot lot better. With the players that leave for free it would free up a lot of wages.

In my opinion we would need 5 new players to start depending on the formation played.

I've seen somebody else say that they played with Dom Dwyer and were really surprised that he had any sort of career in football.

Fair play to him for finding a way, I think more English players should go and make a living overseas. A lot of Blue Square North players are probably top tier players in various Asian leagues etc, and could make a living instead of topping up their wages with Deliveroo. Look at Jamie Hopcutt for example, went and won a domestic cup in Sweden and played a few games in Europe.

Ended up married to one of the biggest names in womens football as well, Sydney Leroux, although divorced now.

Yeah I can understand where that other person is coming from as it wasn't obvious that he would make it professionally, the one thing he had at an early age was pace.

Fair play to him for taking the chance in America as he has done well for himself and played against some of the best players in the world. I agree in terms of playing overseas as there is more of an opportunity and always the chance then to come back to England later on in career.

  11. If Hayden was fit or if we had another suitable holding midfielder I would play McLean at LB but we don't so....

    GK  Krul

    LCB  Sorensen

    CB  Hanley

    RCB  Omobamidele

    LWB  Hernandez

    RWB  Aarons

    CM  McLean

    CM  Nunez

    AM  Cantwell

    ST  Hugill

    ST  Pukki

Subs:  Gunn, Gibson, Gibbs, Sara, Dowell, Rashica, Sargent,

I want Fredrik Bjørkan from Herta Berlin on lone to January

That would be a quality signing, was linked with him about a year ago, just before the links with Knutsen I believe.

But if they didn't want to spend money on a new left back I would start playing McLean at LB as I think he would be more suited to that role than CM. He has a good left foot, undervalued in the air (one of our best) and I believe he would make a good attacking LB. If he plays that role I could see him becoming a consistent at least 7/10 performer every week like Drury was.
