  1. In fairness they look a well coached, young, talented and hungry team with momentum. We have ridden that curve before and it can take you a long way.

We looked like a team still on the curve of figuring out exactly what we are and have lost two very influential players. Always optimistic but we do look like a top 10 side at best.

It'll be interesting to see the highlights. My first reaction was astonishment - he looked absolutely miles offside to me.

Maybe an arm, var would have ruled it out, can understand why Lino didn’t. Thought we gave it a real go tonight against a good team. Depth of bench was a difference, we can’t afford to be without Sargent, Nunez, Sainz. We’re too thin

This one is down to Wagner. Wrong team playing against a Leicester side with 5 changes who are playing completely differently to expected. Out thought by Maresca, I'm afraid. Rowe, Gibbs and Fassnacht all awful so far. Gibson almost as bad. We have nothing to aim for up front; no control or tempo. Let's see what Wagner has in mind to get back in it. Personally, I'd put Idah on.

Thought we started well and challenged them. We have purposefully put the high press on to make them go long but the quality of the passing from their keeper means they have worked it out. Equally Leicester have closed all space down for Rowe which leaves us struggling for an out ball. One thing is clear we can’t play the same way as we will be down to 10 so we will now have to concede possession to them, stay in the game and try and make it ragged in the last 20 and see why we can get.

The international break will make no difference as we go with what we have yesterday in 2 weeks time plus the totally unknown South Korean. Lack of quality depth on the bench to change a game when the team is not clicking was woefully exposed yesterday.

I think we do have depth on the bench to change a game, especially when we get a couple back. Hernandez is lauded on here as an impact player off the bench and does give you a quick direct winger, Sainz we don’t really know yet but looks like a player with good close control and intricate passing, Idah (assuming off bench) gives another striker and Nunez is abit of a wild card. We also have now the ability to switch to 3 at the back/wingbacks or we could stick a holding midfielder on (Gibbs/forshaw) to get Sara further forward. We do have options but yesterday we just played cr@p against a committed and physical opposition. It happens.

Hillarious watching Sky Soccer Saturday - Dean’s a pundit ….

Man City score number 2 and Dean’s contradicting VAR - properly animated saying the goal shouldn’t stand. Offside and interfering with play…

Man City 2 lol! Goal stands!

It’s shocking how VAR gets these quite simple decisions wrong.

They should have a common sense test as part of their process

  6. Kind of thought they would be a tough side for us today and our new approach of getting the ball wide and crosses in, kind of plays into their game plan/limitations.

This is where we will have to be bold and change it up a little. Get Barnes up top, Nunez in behind him and try and get on the ball for a bit, change gino for McCullum if he is having one and don’t be shy to bring placheta in for either Rowe or fassnacht.

It does appear that we are almost back to 2019 and the surprise of promotion and the unreadiness for that promotion.

Have we changed tack and are now hoping to bring through youngsters for a couple of seasons and rely on the old lags to keep us steady? So are we saying we haven't planned for promotion? Somebody better tell the players then.

I’m sure there will be plans in place should we be promoted but as we have seen in this window, Luton and Sheffield Utd haven’t really been able to add much.

I think our model (whether we personally like it or not) is entirely based on bringing through good young players into a team of championship level players and the hope to unearth a diamond (I.e someone like a buendia, pukki or even a Sara) that can make a difference.

We didn't sign players, IMO, who have a future here. We just temporarily fixed the hole in the bucket.

I think the logic is that we already have the young players that present our future coming through but temp stop gaps and educators are required to bring them through safely. It is in effect the strategy, bring in lots of youngsters and coach at least a few of them through to the first team.

there are enough let go by the big clubs to gamble on some being later developers

The club decision to sell the silverware this summer and replace with free players at the end of their careers smacks of a lack of ambition. They are extremely lucky that those older heads have played well and results have gone well - otherwise the scenes would have been ugly.

it’s been a lucky start not ambition that has saved the clubs blushes. It really is time the owners sold up - the cupboard is clearly bare

I think it’s a really difficult balance to get right for a football club. The change in finances from championship to premier league and back again is so enormous it must be really hard work to try and bridge in your planning. This is where I do agree with you that the lack of financial clout of our owners does hold us back, others have been able to smooth this period because they have more of a guarantee sitting behind them due to their owners wealth.

the last premier league season was a disaster but on one hand we have to say the club went for it in terms of transfer fees and wages (history has clearly told us the entirely wrong players but different debate). Given that level of outlay we had to get up last year or have a massive change in expense base to prepare for the likelihood of not having parachute payments next year of c£40m and champ tV money of best case c£10m - a huge drop.

we have to therefore get our wage bill down to a level we can meet through our income plus any transfer fee upside. We can clearly expect Sara and Rowe to go next year if we don’t go up. I don’t think this smacks of ambition more just dealing with the financial reality we are in. It’s why we need at least 1 or 2 good youngsters to come through and ideally turn a profit on the odd South American!

At the same time we seem to have acquired more promising youngsters than ever before. It seems to have become obsessive.

Centre-backs, forwards, you name it. I liked particularly the idea of the centre back from Ireland and the Citeh striker, but they all come with promise, but, in truth, I've lost track of them all. "Webber's babies" (as emphasised by his wife in her recent interview.)

I see these "veterans" as a necessary stop gap, and hopefully more until we once again our place in the riches in order to have that customary one season there in order to get the paras.

Not sure about Kueng(?) Strange history with Forest buying him and then immediately loaning him to Sampdoria and now coming to us without ever playing for them. A YouTube star as is commonplace, but the level of opposition is unclear.

I'll reserve on this one until he plays in the yellow, but Forest's initial interest should indicate something.

Forest did sign about 50 players last year though so not a huge surprise he didn’t play for them.

I think he is a player who is a gamble that we went with whilst Sargent is injured. I noted he is 6’1” so clearly slightly different to what we have got currently.

I personally think the next 1-2 months will finally give us a definitive view on Idah. Lots of views either way but the boy has never really had a run of games. Hoping he steps and scores a few for us

  11. This does appear to have been a much more balanced transfer window in terms of bringing in lots of experience for nothing in transfer fees, whilst still trying to bring through the next crop of youngsters even if they start in the u21’s. Early evidence suggests we have a team/squad that can be competing in this league for top 6 which if I’m honest is better than I thought at the tail end of last year.

it was obvious early that we need to massively adjust the finances, getting rid of big wage earners and praying we could shift Tzolis somewhere. Most of that has been achieved and hopefully has now helped us get to a position where we have  a smoother flight path into next year and the loss of parachute payments should we not be successful in getting a premier league promotion.

The only thing that really worries me from a business perspective is that we do have a smaller number of players that might provide the big money sale next year should we need it, this is the one downside that having lots of experienced players brings, I’m thinking mainly Sara, Sargent, Gunn and if he keeps it up Rowe.

overall though, Norwich being competitive, playing attacking football is all I really ask for, I don’t suffer from the same illusions of grandeur as others, whether that is a small club mentality or not

Springett going off injured? With Tzolis and Rashica gone we’re now down to barebones on the wings again. Will we ever learn?

In fairness we have Springett, Rowe, placheta, Onel, fassnacht and Sainz for 2 places, you can’t avoid injuries, how many wingers would you look to carry Ina squad and try and keep happy?

Agreed. Never understood why Argos was given another contract. Despite his enthusiasm and work appetite he has extremely poor end product as he plays with his head down and tries repeatedly to beat the defenders multiple times usually ending in failure. Fassnacht has been touted as a 'real player' with a record for scoring and assists. For him to be on the bench in favour of Argos is very worrying!

He’s been here about 10 days! Let the guy acclimatise. Disagree on the Hernandez contract, looked virtually our only weapon at the tail end of last year, a useful squad player.

When you read some of that stuff above, you do wonder the mentality of some people, criticising  lads just putting some content out there.    They don't have to listen, (they obviously do!!!) but it seems an automatic necessity to be critical.   Fair play to Jack and Chris, they put themselves out there.    I prefer them to the Pinkun chaps by a distance.

I think you make some great points, I’ve said before I think it’s great what they have achieved and fair play to them, can’t knock a couple of fans achieving what they have. I just personally do not pay much attention or give credence to what they say and find it odd that in this modern social media world we give such weight to reasonably uneducated opinions. As you say though, that is on the individual rather than the TNC boys.

my joke above was nothing more than cheap humour to Mr Butler, who again has the bottle to put himself forward but also divides opinion.
