Jansen has both arms around Leno and is pinning him to the ground. Clear and obvious foul.

If he's being fouled the keeper has to do more to get away or shove the player off, but he just lets him like he's not bothered.

Arsenal had the look of league cup side with a bunch of reserve and youth players who've never played together before. I doubt Brentford will have an easier game all season. I'd fancy us to thrash that Arsenal side last night and beat Brentford too. I didn't think they looked anything special, just Arsenal were awful. Not sure how long Arteta has there but other than Tierney and Smith Rowe the players didn't look bothered and that can't be a good sign.

  2. I'd be surprised if Archant agreed to hand over the forum data to a third party as there are potential issues with GDPR and copyright.

Another option would be to scrape the post data from this forum and reproduce it on a new forum as a kind of archive. This is technically non-trivial but I'm sure someone has done it before and it has the advantage that it could be done without any cooperation from Archant.

Id' prefer it if Archant just fixed this forum though. The white screen thing is usually php out of memory. If it's a question of cost then why not monetize this a bit better? They could introduce a paid member tier (one off or subscription) with a few perks (no ads, supporter flair etc.) that should raise some money to keep the lights on a bit longer.

Even 2 seasons ago Webber saw the importance of a ball winning holding midfielder in Amadou , albeit that ot didnt work out...but we still had Tettey to fall back on, now we dont even have Tettey.

It beggars belief that they think they could go into a premier league season without such a midfielder....unless Lees Melou can somehow perform that role.

Neither Gilmour , McLean or Rupp are of that type.

...yet we're about to go and spend 17 odd million on Sargent and Tzolis ?

In their last live Q&A Connor and Paddy said that signing a defensive midfielder was now top priority, followed by a full back. They said the club no longer see another centre back signing as a priority given how impressive Omobamidele has been.

Paddy also said negotiations for Billing had been going on for weeks, so I expect that is who they want for the DM role although I'm not convinced by him myself.

Still plenty of time left for signings, but you have to say that given the impact Skipp had last season it would be suicide to go into the PL without a decent replacement.

In the Italy match, we had a player go down, the commentator say it looked almost acting and yet the player gets up with a big mark on his face. But in reality, he hadn't been fouled as it was an accident. Just as follow through tackles can be.

It has become a real poison chalice for refs in that its difficult to assess when someone goes down holding their head, a natural injury to stop the game for,  and yet there appears nothing wrong with the tackle. And even with slow motion, no-one can ever be 100% sure that a player isn't hurt.

There was also the incident before the goal when an Italian player was rolling around in agony in the box but as soon as the goal went in he jumped up and ran across to celebrate with his team mates.

You'd think after seeing a fellow player being defibrillated on the pitch we might see a decrease in the amount of pointless playacting, but it didn't take long for normal service to resume.

Garth Crooks could and should be used more, always honest and on it.

In a similar thread on Reddit recently there wasn't a lot of love for Garth Crooks as a pundit, but maybe the average age of posters there is a bit too young to appreciate him at his best. Always been a fan of Garth and I remember a time where he was presenting non-football stuff on the BBC too - always a bit surreal to see him interviewing a politician or hosting a current affairs debate.

He was also pretty good as "Garth Brooks" on Fantasy Football League.

The general reaction of others was varied. Some stood there open-mouthed, some scuttled off unable to face it and I am sure one young girl was at the point of getting her IPhone out. Only two people helped. One elderly man and me ... I have had some experience. We did the basics, side turn and something in the mouth to prevent swallowing the tongue and a firm hand. A shop manager called for medical assistance (not sure if it was in-house at first). Although medics are not necessarily needed for an episode an epileptic might have in familiar surroundings with people familiar to him or her they are in such a random situation as it could have been his first,  as the post-seizure confusion could not be predicted and because status epilepticus could have occured.

While I applaud your efforts I just want to point out to anyone else reading this that official guidance is not to put anything in the mouth of someone having a seizure.

Also when it comes to CPR it's really not difficult to learn and I'd encourage anyone to have a go if they are ever unfortunate enough to be in a situation where it is required.

Could handle and applaud him leaving for a big club.

But he's left for a club we should be competing with.

We're being bent over a barrel by Aston Villa.

In honesty I don't know why we're accepting the bid.

That's what happens when your sporting director openly states a players starting price.

Villa have spent hundreds of millions and are bankrolled by billionaires. We might as well say we should be competing with Manchester City.

Last year..had a strop...result.. Player of the season.

Yes but nobody really knows the story there - were there even any genuine bids? Was a deal done with Emi for him to see out the season and then move on?

If the two situations are identical as you imply, what's your explanation for us selling him now and not then?

No problem with differing views and will respond in the manner given.. someone questions if you're a City fan they get it back. Call you silly.. they get it back. Perfectly calm, just incredibly disappointed in the club going back on its no need to sell quotes and selling the best player we have had on the cheap. Haven't insulted anyone who is adult like in their responses.

I interpreted the "no need to sell" stuff from Webber as we don't need to sell to balance the books or keep the club afloat, not that nobody would be sold. We don't know what has gone on behind the scenes but if Buendia was pushing for a move then getting him out the door early for a record fee was probably the best option. In theory the club could have told him no and insisted he fulfilled his contract but in practice that rarely seems to happen if the player wants to move.

Must be a money move from Eli’s perspective as I doubt Villa’s coaching ability is any better than ours, can’t see him developing much more as a player.

Or am I being harsh on Villa?

Villa are in a very different position to us as they have new owners who have pumped a significant amount of money into the club in the last couple of years with a view to establishing themselves higher up the league and challenging for Europe. Whether it'll all end in tears who knows, but I expect they see signing Buendia as part of their commitment to building a more competitive squad.

Yep but l've had it now.... No club has ever been promoted and sold its talisman. I mean Villa... the club people on here saying thank god we are not them... the club we came up with..

And since they came up they've spent something like £200 million to stay (barely) in the Premier League. According to the accounts their billionaire owners put £126 million into the club in 2019-20. I daresay we'd all welcome Delia and Michael stumping up the odd hundred million, but it ain't ever gonna happen.

Unless the objections are that they could invest that kind of money but choose not to or that they are refusing to sell the club to someone who could, I get why people wish we had more money, but it's just that, wishful thinking.

It's Spurs, Levy wouldn't care if they had a manager if he liked the offer.

It's also possible Skipp has pushed for a return given the uncertainty over the manager at Spurs. Everything I've read suggests he's absolutely loyal to Spurs, but he may not want to take his chance with whoever comes in and prefer guaranteed first team football at a club he already knows. The longer he waits to decide his future he risks us signing his replacement and him potentially having a loan back in the championship or sitting on the bench for a season at Spurs.

If Kane is sold there is going to be huge pressure to spend the money and strengthen the first team, and I can't see a new manager with that level of expectation being able to trust a 20 year old with barely any premier league experience.

There are few better at knowing what is happen at Norwich better than the PinkUn so I don’t believe these ‘official bids’ rumours.

I’d imagine Emi’s agent is acting as a go between and trying to establish what Norwich want before taking it to prospective clubs. It may be that no one is actually interested in paying the amount the agent agrees with Norwich.

In the original Sky Sports article the tweet references the first paragraph reports a source says a second bid of £35 million has been made but the second paragraph then reports another source as saying no bids have been made.

I guess one makes a better headline than the other!
