Statistics...And More Statistics

Recommended Posts

I realize this post is for light reading only but possibly, by looking at the "other league table", it a) helps take our minds off the Bradford result and b) gives us another way of looking at the seasons results so far.
One never knows of course but it looks likely that the top six places will be occupied by six of the teams currently in the top eight. As a matter of interest, lets take a look at the table standings where only the top eight teams have played against each other.

........................Games...H...A......Won....Tied.....Lost...GF....GA....Points
West.Ham...........10.......7....3........4........3........3......18.....14.......15
WBA......................8.......6....2........4........2........2......10......7........14
Sheffield.U............8.......4....4........3........3........2........7......6.........12
Sunderland...........7.......2....5........3........2........2........9......7.........11
Wigan...................8.......5....3........2........5........1........7......9.........11
Norwich.................7.......1....6.......2........3........2........5......4...........9
Ipswich.................8.......3....5........2........1........5.......10....14.........7
Preston.................8.......4....4........1........3........4........5.....9...........6

( Hope these stats stay in their format rather than becoming jumbled ).
Others can interpret whether the above means anything or nothing ( again, just for fun ) but here is one thought. Norwich, obviously, have done remarkably well having played 6 of their 7 games away and only conceding 4 goals. Sunderland also looks pretty impressive. One things for certain, when Norwich has their home games against these top teams, the fans need to take their throat soothers/cough drops to the games and start roaring a few minutes before the games start and not stop roaring until the games are over as opposed to what it sounds like occurred in the Bradford game. Even if it''s Rivers in the game, it might be better to shout "chase him down Mark" rather than "get busy Rivers".

I''ve made it roughly less jumbled - although it will depend on fonts on everyone''s machines. You can view our table here, but it doesn''t list the number of home and away games:
