  1. My problem with the Sven thing is that he tries as hard as anyone but when he cocks it up he is loudly abused by quite a high percentage of the crowd. On Saturday McKenzie fell over 3 times in good positions whilst Huckerby missed a penalty, wasted a free kick and a corner by insisting that they were taken quickly but nobody seems to mind. Sven scored the only goal and when he was substituted instead of cheering him a section of the crowd exalted the arrival of Iwan. Iwan then performed like a wardrobe and missed a sitter and nobody booed. Give Sven a break.

  2. I don''t necessarily think Hucks should be dropped, but we do need the rest of the team to recognise that there are other options in attack besides him. Before the great man''s arrival we managed to score the odd goal, but now we see occasions where McVeigh, Brennan and Francis find themselves in strong attacking positions but still try to find Huckerby rather than shooting or passing to somebody else. In the same way Malky and Fleming rarely pass out to the wings even when there are clear options that do not involve Hucks.

  3. As an LDV employee, I attended the Trophy Final yesterday and both Martin Bullock for Blackpool and Mark Gower for Southend were right wingers who scared the full backs with pace and got crosses in. May be not the answer but what would someone like Bullock give to be in our squad fighting for a place in the team and the Premiership and probably costing relative buttons.

  4. Could one of you posters who enjoy the analysis of Division 1 statistical minutia do one of your sheets which shows that, despite the Palace debacle, with Wigan winning, WBA not playing, Millwall winning at West Ham etc., we are still nailed on certainties to go up, as all the current threads are making me nervous.

  5. Ted McDougall and Chris Sutton without a doubt as far as goalscorers go. What about Colin Sugget, Dave Williams or Doug Livermore? Or even Trevor Hockey who kept us upon his own one season. At the back Clive Payne was always reliable. Also no one has mentioned Pape Diop, Steve Walsh or Tony Cotee.

  6. The whole place was so tense last night with the ground practically silent for long periods. Wasn''t Malky an absolute rock throughout a really dodgy first half for almost everyone else? Francis was so poor he seemed either injured or ready to jack it in, never getting a foot in and being completely off the pace. Hendo really wanted to do well but his final pass was terrible and he never attempted to get to the byline in the first half and only played freely when we were winning.

Mulryne came on looking like he knew we were actually pleased to see him and played well as a consequence and Holt started closing down everyone and the team just seemed to switch to real team with a back four, a winner and a passer, two wingers,( Mcveigh excellent on the left) and Sven and Hucks really started to move around both playing left, right and through the middle and it was all over.

We have to start with Mulryne on Saturday, Rivers on the right if he''s fit and tell Shackell he''s great but that he''s not a wing back.

  7. I''m an 8 game season tickets holder and I''m waiting a bit longer as it''s over £1000 for my family to all go next season and it''s a 5 and a half hour round trip plus pies and hot chocolate. It may seem pessimistic and not the most cost effective approach, but when the time is right I''ll pay.

  8. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly that he was the MOM it was because it was the time of game Holt excels in, uncompromising, unadventurous in terms of playmaking and loads of opportunities to run, block, tackle and maim, unintentionally, of course. My problem with our midfield 2 is the massive emphasis on graft and not guile or style which gets us through most games in this division, and I can see Holt being bypassed by top sides next year or just being sent off on a regular basis. Mulryne looked desperately off the pace yesterday and given the point in the game when they came, wasted 2 free kicks ( Malky going mad at him), so where will find someone capable of being a tackler and a provider?

  9. Iwan was great and is a good ambassador for the club, but last night he was even more leaden than usual with his footwork, failed to win most one on one heading opportunities and whilst some of his initial control in holding up the play looked okay, his distribution was hurried and poor. When Matt Svensson came on he looked positively youthful, won more ball than Iwan, rattled the centre backs and had shots on target. I think he could be so much more than Iwan if we gave him a game or two and a better foil for Huck.
