  1. Gordon, I guess you can look at this bid (if true) in two ways.

The positive slant is that we can potentially use that money to make our squad better. The negative slant is that we can potentially knock back the bid in order to try and make Bournemouth ''s squad worse.

I can see the arguments on both sides. But I''d personally prefer the first option if there are deals that could be done with a further injection of cash.

  2. As Bethnal has alluded to already, the thing which concerns me the most here is that many people in Italy (both fans and pundits alike) simply don''t seem to rate him.

I notice the Italian football correspondent Gabriel Marcotti has referred to it as a very odd signing for an English team and one he doesn''t think would be a success. Marcotti said that he was once very highly rated but has fallen a very long way in a short space of time.

Whilst any signing is a significant gamble, the idea of us committing so much money in transfer fees and wages to a player with so many question marks again his name is very worrying.

As we have seen with Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel, these signings simply have to work for a club like Norwich otherwise they will severely handicap you in the transfer market for a long time to come.

  3. I doubt you''d get any more than about £2 million now and even that might be pushing it. It would still represent a near 10 fold profit on what we paid for him back in 2010 though - which sums up what a good purchase he''s been for the club in that time.

However, I am not convinced he''s finished at Norwich yet and I wouldn''t be surprised if he was back in goal by the end of the season. Much stranger things have happened in football.

  4. There''s very little evidence to suggest that either McGrandles or Thompson have improved that much since they came here.

McGrandles plays under 21 football and is nowhere near the first team. In reality, his development would have been better served remaining at Falkirk and playing football - he''s played about 20 minutes of professional football in 18 months.

Louis Thompson appears to be operating at a very similar level to where he was about 18 months ago. Namely, being one of the stronger players in Swindon''s team. Albeit they are now struggling rather than challenging for the playoffs.

In an ideal world you want to see development players going out on loan and gradually winning loan moves higher up the pyramid. Patrick Bamford being a great example of this. Starting at MK Dons, then Derby, then Middlesbrough and then Crystal Palace. Whilst the Palace move hasn''t worked out for him you can see the progression he''s made in the last 2 years or so.

This isn''t happening with either McGrandles or Thompson.

  5. There is no way Ruddy will be allowed to leave unless we bring in a keeper with significant top flight experience.

If Rudd were to get injured we''d be short of cover. Jake Kean has been poor in the under 21 games I have seen and the idea of him stepping into a Premier League game is a scary thought. Our next most experienced keeper would be Remi Matthews - a player deemed surplus to requirements by Burton Albion.

Whilst Rudd is doing well, there are still many unknowns about him. Will he be able to sustain this form? How will he react to making a bad mistake? I like Rudd but these are issues which can befall any goalkeeper new to the Premier League.

As things stand Ruddy is an important squad member who we need working hard to ensure Rudd is pushed and to be there as insurance if Rudd goes through a dodgy spell.

I''m not referring to this thread specifically but I think it''s sad people are giving Ruddy a hard time. Its true he has not played well for a while and whatever happened in Tombland was clearly avoidable on his part. However, he''s been a good servant to the club and could have departed for more money at various points yet decided to stay. As supporters we often bemoan they''re being no loyalty in the game, but we would also do well to remember that loyalty is a two way street when a player does actually show some.

If we sign a new goalkeeper then the whole position may change - for both Rudd and Ruddy. As I doubt an experienced top flight keeper will becoming to sit on the bench as cover.

  6. Couple of things to be said here.

That''s actually the 5th game Sunderland have lost in succession. Whilst, that''s a shocking sequence of results they have lost to Arsenal (1st) , Watford (9th), Man City (3rd), Liverpool (7th) and Chelsea (who, whilst doing terribly are something of an outlier given the quality in their squad).

They''ve got a more manageable run of fixtures on the horizon now, staring with Aston Villa. This will represent the true test of what Allardyce can get out of this Sunderland squad - if anything at all.

A draw would be an ideal result, but I don''t think a Villa win would be that damaging. They''d still probably need about 29 points from 18 games to beat the drop. That''s near European qualification form if they pull that off.

  7. I think the first thing to say is, he wasn''t remotely fit in that play off final and his performance showed it. It''s a sign of how little Karanka rated Kike that he still played Bamford anyway in that game.

He''s also perfectly capable of playing as a lone striker. He did for Middlesbrough all of last season and scored 19 goals in 43 matches, which is a very healthy return. The idea that he wouldn''t suit Norwich''s style is not correct in my opinion. He make intelligent runs down the sides of defenders and would have the pace to stretch teams.

However, at the present time I don''t think there is that much difference in ability between Mbokani, Jerome and Bamford. So I wouldn''t be busting a gut to try to sign him at the moment.

In any event, I would imagine that Chelsea will want to fix him up with some guaranteed first team football. So I wouldn''t be surprised if something is in place for him to return to Middlesbrough. He''s also the kind of player that Bournemouth and Swansea are probably crying out for at the moment as well.

  8. ''But I do believe that Alex Neil has the potential to improve to become as good or better than any other manager in the country. I hope he believes in himself more than some of our fans do.

Oh, and your constant referrals to other people''s intellect is doing nothing other than showing up your own.''

  9. I''m not called Bor or Morty but as I have voiced on numerous occasions, I am staggered how you can argue this rubbish for 14 pages and you''d happily do it for another 14 if you could.

In recent times you really have stunk this forum out with the quality or (lack of) in your posts. But each to their own.

  10. No one has criticised Rudd at all, in fact I''ve explicitly said in numerous posts he''s got the potential to be very good for Norwich City. But he will not achieve anywhere near what De Gea will achieve in his career. There''s no shame in that, De Gea is one of the top 5 goalkeepers in world football - hence why he''ll end up at Real Madrid sooner rather than later.

You can call other posters w****rs as much as you like. But all that is happening is people are challenging the drivel that you post and you don''t like it, or ignore the posts that totally undermine the arguments you are making.

  11. Financial Fair Play is just a complete nonsense and should be scrapped. The current rules fail on every level.

The aim of the rules is for clubs to live within their means. Yet, under the current rules it is acceptable to lose £8 million a year and still be within the parameters of the rules. Now whilst I''m not an accountant I don''t see how losing £8 million a year is sustainable or healthy for any business/club.

The punishments imposed are also stupid because firstly we don''t know if they''re even enforceable and secondly it seems some what counter intuitive to encourage healthy finances at clubs by *drumroll* fining them shed loads of money. Genius, absolute genius.

Surely, if you''re going to have this then it should be done properly. Clubs are required to break even and if they don''t they are either barred from going up or they are levied with a sizeable points deduction depending on the size of the breach.

Personally, I don''t think Financial Fair Play should exist. If a wealthy owner wants to come in and sink his/her money into a football club then that should be entirely a matter for them. As Man City have shown, not all wealthy owners are necessarily a force for evil within the game.
