1. I think the point that was originally being made was not really about swearing in general at football matches, since heightened emotions often see people use colourful language and good old anglo-saxon words can come in handy!.

Rather my interpretation of the post was that Hayden enjoyment was suffering from an oaf who wanted to be centre of attention, but who’s only means of getting that attention was to behave in what most of us would see as tiresome and childish behaviour. In that circumstances I think the stewards if called upon have a duty to inform that individual about the tone and persistency of his language.

If he refuses to refrain, then throw the f**king idiot over the top of the Barclay….

  2.
I get the feeling I''m going to win this one. My first game was March 1949 and we beat Ipswich 2-1.

I bought my first season ticket, and have renewed it to the present season, in 1970. I started in the old wooden stand and moved to the River End stand when it was built.
That''s pretty impressive 57 seven years since your first game and 36 years a season ticket holder. Certainly winning hands down for now! I seem to remember a few years back an elderly couple who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and being introduced on the pitch at half-time. The husband had obviously been drinking mineral water with Delia and was a right character. Believe he came out with the words "Who are you" to the away fans over the mic! Think he must have been there at the nest in his time.

  3. I read the thread on fickle fans and thought I would change the question!

Far more interested in the following. So perhaps fellow supporters could enlighten me?

1 - Longerst serving Norwich City season ticket holder? Thats continuous seasons.

2 - When was your first game and who against? There must be someone out there who watched Norwich play at the old Nest in 1920! Maybe the Pink''un staff have that knowledge?

As an answer to my questions well they are as follows.

1 - Never held a season ticket, so thats me snookered on that one.

2 - Norwich vs Liverpool 1980 I believe in that 5-3 thriller Stood on a box in the River End and loved it.

  4. If ''we'' see Leon in our long term plans and not sure if I do, then sign him up now for another two years and make him feel wanted.

If Worthy like me see''s a hard working, but Championship player at most, then I would see what offers came in and try to buy better.

Like him as a player and it''s his right to look after his own interests. Just don''t see him getting any better for us and not playing too much.

  5. I think it’s a case for him to put brain in gear before speaking… I know most of us don’t do that, but he’s a politician representing the people of North Norwich. .Ill advised words and with little fact in scientific circles about diabetes at least, shows a lack of judgement on his part his part this time.

I am sure in the past before people moved much, then there may have been a case for his claims. However since the invention of the motor car then no where is out of reach in England. Hence the many different accents I hear every time I come back to the fair city from the North-West.

Still he’s apologised and we all make silly remarks now and then. Live and let live. How many Gibson in Norfolk though…..

  6. IMHO we were not crap in the Prem, but realistically a club slightly out of it’s depth with not enough money to compete on a level playing field.

I think we excelled ourselves that season and the manager, plus the players learned lessons as the season went on.

Last season was a disaster, but again football is team game and the manager, board, players and to an extent the fans can take some of the blame. I am sure the atmosphere at home did not help towards the end of the season.

Worthy is far from the finished article and has made some blunders on the pitch and in the PR department. However some fans seem to get upset rather easily and I can only assume that those type of fans go through life feeling slighted at the least little difference of opinion!

You might disagree with the manager, you might not like him, but to wish our team defeats, so you can get rid of the manager is losing the plot for me and I would not see that as an action of a fan.

Let’s hope Worthy turns it around this year, not to offend the doubters, but rather that if he’s doing well, then my beloved team is winning. That’s enough to keep me happy.

  7. Can we stop the righteous statements by both sides and try and leave this debate behind for now about Worthy in or out!. I am sure it will come back if we are playing bad, but for now at the early stages of this season just try and enjoy the game!

Worthy is far from perfect, but obviously he is staying for now and by all accounts (second hand on my part) we have started well. Let’s try and be as one and see what happens, it might be fun this season!

  8. Well we won. Alas I could not be there. Sounds like we are back playing good honest City football.

As for the manager. Well he''s not ever going to make a PR man, but then again why should he! Some of his comments annoy me, but then again some of mine do with reflection!

If he makes us a winning team, then I can forgive him for sometimes being well human!

  9.
Worthless has only got £400K left. The board [i.e Delia] hasn''t got the inclination to sack the fool, so the they are giving him a reduced budget to work with because they will need some cash later on when Delia eventually sees the light and pays him off.

    What a pathetic situation.
If that is the case and say ''IF'' then the board would be doing Worthy and the fans an injusitce.

Either they support the manager and give him the full transfers resources available, or they find a new manager they trust with the clubs money.

If not then whats the point of keeping Worthy, becuase without the full resources to strengthen the team, then he is a lame duck manager just wasting money!

  10. Was not there, but maybe the Leeds manager made some changes at half time

    ?

Football is a game of two sides after all! Yes I guess Worthy could have done the same, but by all accounts of the radio commentators we played well in the first half, so why change?

Lets see how we play against Preston.

  11.
It strikes me that great players are a) good and b) consistent.

Feeding as we are off the scraps from the big table, we invariably get players who are either consistent but not the best (Hughes, Fleming, Holt, and so on) or the other way around - potentially great but too inconsistent, a la Etuhu, and before him players like Rivers, and even Llewellyn and so on. On their day they could look Prem class, but it didn''t happen often enough.
Think you hit the nail on the head there mate.

Lets hope Etuhu finds his feet this year and proves to be that box to box midfielder we need.

  12. I suspect Nigel would take more offence to the use of the word "Clown", than "Irish". Then again maybe clowns would take offence being linked with ‘Nigel’…

As for Sutton back at Norwich?

Well not seen much of him of late, but he was class and we are supposedly looking for a big target man, plus he could always play centre half in his younger days. Is he worth a one year deal? Well depends on wage demands, but think he is a free agent and would be worth inviting to Colony for a try out at least IMHO.

Sure he has another year or more left and we were prepared to pay serious money for that Luton striker who is 30 I believe and never played at Sutton’s level.

  13. I don''t have a problem with negative posts in general. However some people seem incapable of seeing anything positive in the club at the moment.

These are often the same people clambering for a right winger and when we try to sign one, then they turn around and say he will not come etc. Please Worthy is far from perfect, but he''s trying to find that player, so give him a break and me from this constant sniping for two minutes.

Put on the "Smiths" like I did tonight. It might cheer you up, or Leonard Cohen for some light relief......

  14. I don''t really have a problem with CF either keeping the money or not. I am sure he is well paid compared to most of us on this forum, but any player that gives ten years to a club deserves his day in the sun and to be honest he has been an outstanding player for us in that time. Always played with pride, perhaps lacked some leadership skills, but I can never remember coming away from a game and moaning about CF.

Would be nice if he made a sizeable donation to charity, but I do not object to him keeping some of  the money. What I do object to is Premiership players keeping their take. If they have been there 10 years, then they must have banked millions. That sticks in the craw.

As for your ten years SPat, well I guess they do not know what a talent they have on their hands. Then again by the time you turn up to work, most of your bosses have gone home for the day...

P.S SPat only kidding mate.. Look forward to meeting  up again soon.

  15. Robert Chase back at Carrow Road fuggedaboutit... Hmmm I think we have some revisionist history going on here.

Yes we were successful under his regime, the facts speak for themselves. However I feel that was more do to good managers, good players and a rather less competitive league at the time.

We sold all our best players some for good money true, but remember RC dismantled the team, when managers wanted to invest in the team. The reason we lost Walker when he was a promising manager was do to lack of investment and paying him a going wage for his success.

We lost O’Neil over Widness who played on for ten years or more scoring goals for fun and would have got us promoted IMHO that year. He made FCR a place of hate towards him and nearly had us in receivership with speculative land buys. They have come home to roost more to do with inner city living coming back to the vogue more than 10 years after he left and city planner regulations. Far sight policy on RC behalf, well not when the banks are demanding interests payments there and then!

This board is far from perfect, but I would take them any day of the week over RC back in town. Some people need to sniff the smelling salts on here and think again. A lot of the initial mess we were in has taken the board years to sort out and yes I guess we are in more debt now then under RC regime.

However I would stress we have sold out gates, we have a great stadium, a big fan base and had some relative success that we will have to get use to know. Sorry the days of Europe are over for the clubs of our size. It’s horrible to admit, but true I fear. Yo-yo between the divisions is the best we can hope for right now. If you want success then there is always Chelsea!

  16. Well is he not a striker by trade?

If thats true SPat, then I will be worried. Still every dog has his day and maybe he''s performing on the training pitch, lets just hope he translates it on the real pitch where it matters..

Still I reckon there''s more chance of you SPat making a kick-off on time, than Henderson playing there all season! An in-joke with SPat for those in the know!

  17. Hmmm well think a play-off place would be wonderful. However I think the first six weeks will determine our seasons and the managers fate.

If we start well, then we can build on that and make FCR that fortress again. If we start badly, than I fear a bad vibe being there and we will suffer with that.

So glass is half full tonight! Lets say sixth with the heart, head says 8th!.

  18. Well I think everyone that post on here with yellow and green blood is worth reading. Some annoy me, some amuse me and some enlighten me.

Don''t really like to highlight anyone, but will!  Would say anything by Beelsie''s or Yankee Canary I will read.

Beelsie''s because I generally agree with and YC because it''s always good to hear a point of view you do not agree with! Makes one questions one own opions, which is always healthy.

  19. Well for me it''s a clean slate for the start of the season and I would love to see Worthington there as manager at the end of the season.

Why? Well not a KTF or a WO, just if he''s there then most likely we have made the play-offs at the least? If he goes, then I presume we would have had a dreadful season and as a fan I would not like to see that.

Its not about whether you like Worthy or not, or any particulary player for me. It''s about seeing my team win and do well that counts for me. If its with free flowing attractive football, then all the better, but a win is a win at the end of the day.

So I all hope we will be wanting a win come the game against Leeds. If not, then you are letting personal dislike of a manager cloud your judgement for me. He''s far from perfect, but his achievements have been worthy (pun intended).

Last season was disappointing, but come on guys and girls lets go and have some fun at the start of the season...

  20. My Uncle, brother in –law and I were talking about Chelsea buying every player under the sun over the weekend and it occurred to me would us Norwich fans be happy if we were in the same situation?

My feeling is that I would not like to have those resources available to Norwich. Why you well may ask

Well I guess it goes back to my golden view of football and sport in general. I want us to win every game, but for me Chelsea are just buying the league and maybe this year the Champions league with the best teams in Italy not playing in it now.

They are not a football team any more to me, but rather a rich mans play thing. He has made billions and is now trying to corner another market to boast the ego. Sure Chelsea fans have celebrated the wins, but deep down do they not feel like a rich mans toy? Do they feel that Chelsea is their club anymore? Many can’t afford to go from the old days, or so we are told from Radio phone ins.

If Arsenal had one the champion’s league title, and admittedly they are not a small club, but their manager I respect (apart from his eyesight) has built a team of youngsters who play in a way that is exciting to watch. I would be a happy gunner.

Wenger has built a team that plays sometimes sublime football and with talent that most people did not recognise when he bought them.

Now in all likelihood we are never going to reach Chelsea spending power or be so lucky to have a manager like Wenger.

However, for me if Norwich play with some skill, some determination and every three games make me come away proud to be a supporter of my club, then that is enough for me whatever league we are in…

I guess what I am asking is what would make you happy being a Norwich fan?

For me its being part of a band of brothers at away days, watching some good football and occasionally starting to believe the dream! I have had great days following our team, great times with friends going to games, but alas more bad results than good.

Still would never change the team I support.

Little Norwich mentality? Well maybe, but how about you? What would make you happy?
