1. In defending well we have still created chances.  The answer is to carry on playing in the same way but be more clinical in front of goal.   I don''t think Holt is in top form and Wes does not score a lot.   It was good Pilks scored last week and maybe as the season develops we will develop a little more goal scoring threat.    But the signs are good.  A stronger and less panicky defence is what we needed - and at the moment that is what we have.   Its up to the goal scorers to step up, whether it is from midfield or the strikers.

  2.
If Hughton feels that he has stumbled across the most effective formation (2 aggressive holding midfielders) then I would expect him to bring in at least one more as bar Fox (who arguably isn''t best suited to that rugged responsibility anyway) we would be in trouble if Johnson or Tettey got injured long term.

I''m sure a new striker will also be on the cards - I''m not sure if Hughton is satisfied with the qualities of any front man bar Holt and to be honest neither am I. Will another bid for CMS be made?
The problem for our strikers is that only one of them is getting a chance to play at any one time, apart from perhaps late substitutions, so the opportunities for the ones sitting it out are limited.  How can they make an impression if they aren''t playing?   It could be that Morison or Jackson would score goals given a run in the team.    Holt hasn''t exactly scored that many - but he is the man with the shirt - and as long as we are picking up points he will stay there.  To get a striker in who would automatically start is not something that in my opinion is going to happen.  A CMS type player, full of running would appeal - but he would only be a strengthening of the squad, not a starter.

But a skilful and forward midfield player would be good.   Apart from Wes - Butterfield and Howson have not yet shown their worth in that position.  So for me, not a striker, but a goal scoring midfielder to put pressure on the three I''ve mentioned.

Oh dear. Perhaps he is just a decent guy, a complete professional and was intent on doing his job to the very best of his ability.

are comments which are not very respectful to one of our longest standing players and there are plenty of comments on previous Lappin threads that run him down.   As for criticising other players - that is what the board is for.  If you spent less time trolling, trying to be clever with your little characters - and more time talking about football - you would find your time better spent.
I have never been one to bare a grudge dear, if you are feeling a bit ashamed of yourself this morning there is no need. All I can say is that standards are not what they were, being rude to an elderly lady is not necessary and  is ungentlemanly, I need say no more. The point I was making dear, I will put it simply for you as I now feel I need to, is that Mr Lappin is a wonderful person who is loved by the vast majority of us old fogies that go along to Carrow Road every week. There are always a few detractors dear but you should ignore them. This thread has been very supportive to Simon who we love, what you have done is drawn attention to and enbolden the odd less favourable post, been a bit of a wet blanket dear.
For one, a kind old lady would know better than go around calling everyone "dear" all the time, as she would realise how patronising it is.   For two, the so called old fogies that apparently appear on here are usually wind up merchants who are just trying to be clever.  Real older people don''t have a need to play the "old" card as you and a few other "characters" try and do.   We are all just "posters" on here, whether you like it or not.

You troll like posters who try to seek attention by being so "different" to everyone else, do the board no favours imo.  I prefer talking to real people who have genuine concerns and interests about our club, rather than waste time with the witterings of posters who are just trying to stir it - whether they be old, young, male or female, or somewhere in between.

  7.
Bye bye King. I don''t think we''ll beseeing you again in the yellow and green. A good professional who sticks to the task with out throwig his toys out of the pram.
You''re just too quick to write people off, mungo.   If we get one or two injuries at the back, he may well have a part to play this season.   A useful back up player who needs to get match fit.  A sensible move.

  8. That lot down the road are a bit of an irrelevance imo, until such time as our paths may cross again one day in a cup match or something.    It felt like the end of an era the season we beat them 9-2.     As a local(ish) club the only interest now is to see how far they will go down before some kind of revival, if any, there will be.  As far as rivalry goes, at the moment they are not rivals - we are on a different level to them.   If we do ever meet again in the league, then things may be different - but the days when we could be seen as being  on a level with them seem long gone.  The contrast could not seem greater than it does at the moment.    The 9-2 seemed a kind of  powerful statement.  I''m not glorifying in their demise - more watching with a sense of  morbid fascination how they seem to be getting lower and lower....and lower.

  9. quote"BW''s Cat:"a clever troll"

I think dear mungo is feeling very insecure. Perhaps he goes on the board so that he feels more intelligent, due to his little deceptive games? Perhaps he is nothing more than an undesirable or unfortunate.

Also LDC, your paragraph is pretty much my case against WIz.

    Funny isn''t it.

The difference with wiz is that at least he responds and you can have some kind of dialogue with him.    Mungo? - playing games - and  underhand ones at that.

  10.
Not bothered about the Everton result.

We need to beat Southampton however. We stayed up last because of our amazing record against the bottom teams. If we take points off them & in turn give them none we will be safe. If however we lose to Southampton, QPR, Wigan etc ... then they will catch us up & our wins against Utd & Arsenal will just be novelties.
This is media hyped statistical nonsense.   We need to get points everywhere we play.   I''ve lost count of the times I''ve said it but it''s points against every team we play that will keep us up - or better.         We stayed up because we got points against nearly every team in the division last season, including Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea  and Liverpool.       Sure it is good to beat hose around you in the league, thats common sense, but to "not be bothered" about the Everton result is frankly, barmy.    One of the well earned points that helped keep us up last season happened to be at Everton.

Lat season was last season - and we competed with everybody (except ManCity).    And to refer to the 6 valuable points against Arse anr Mu as possible novelty points is bizarre.  [:S]

  11.
Unfortunately Harry, Mungo doesn''t answer questions. Makes it easier for him.
Someone who appears to be an attention seeker of the worst kind, but  doesn''t answer questions is using a calculated strategy.  MB sometimes raises  good points -  which show he has a brain, but he is imo trying to manipulate the board in a snide and cunning way.    By trying to appear to be the perfect fan (going to all matches home and away) he is setting himself up to be  a voice of authority.  He has already started to sound more reasonable over the last few weeks and  given the way he has put himself about on here and the way he manipulates people, I would expect him to turn into an apparently much more reasonable character.   But he is someone who does not care about other people  - other fans - and I will not be able to forget that - however his character  evolves, as it surely will.

As I say - a calculated strategy - make a lot of noise and get noticed, then gradually moderate the behaviour until he becomes more accepted.  He has even been a bit more moderate recently when referring to me - and I have taken a lot of c**p from him.     He is after celebrity status on a message board by trampling over decent fans of all kinds - and then trying to work his way in by becoming gradually more reasonable.    Definitely a troll, but worse - a clever troll.

  12. No no and thrice NO!  Giant killing?   What is going on?   We are in the premier league because we deserve to be.   Enjoy the good wins by all means, but giant killing?   For pete''s sake.   Maybe some of you can''t remember when we used to beat the top sides on a regular basis and compete in the top half of the table back in the late 80''s early 90''s.

At this stage we are not where we were then, but perpetuating the myth that  these "super clubs" are not there to be gawped at - but to be competed with and beaten at every opportunity.

The media has it''s own agenda in keeping these myths going - and it is added to by the statisticians who go use statistics to boost the myths.   Thankfully, in the real world there are people who refuse to accept things as they are presented by the media - and statisticians - and look a little deeper into what makes football so special.   Heart, desire, vision, competitive spirit, inspiration, character.  This is what governs football - or should govern it.   What got us from the bottom of League 1 to the pemiership in two seasons?   The media? - who would have said no chance.   Statisticians? - They would probably have said - "statistically so unlikely as to be a ridiculous idea".

Well it wasn''t ridiculous and we are where we are because of the things I mention above.   So don''t give me "giant killing" and all that baloney. We are a premiership club who have adjusted to a difficult time with the change of manager and emerged stronger for it.   We are here on merit and there are no giants for us to beat - just other clubs in the league - some better, some worse - and we are competeing with them aqs equals.   And don''t tell me we are not because such and such a club has soooo much more money than us.  So what, that is just another challenge to rise to.

The EDP ought to wake up and smell the coffee - and so should some fans, by the look of it...........................

  13. Ok, I''ll answer the question.   If we are in the business of dreaming about players we can''t afford, I wouldn''t particularly want Sturridge - who appears overrated and does not live up to the hype, imo.  Walcott would be a good signing, but not one I would dream about.

  14.
Just... no. Why is it not the most obvious thing to talk about? The most obvious question to ask after beating Manchester United is "Where do we go from here?"If the management hasn''t asked questions of the things that didn''t go right (A few misplaced passes) then they must have ignored them... and if you ignore problems they don''t usually go away.
Thanks, Stig, at least some people can take things at face value.    Its true though, too much giving away possession leads to pressure, its not rocket science and it is happening too much in our matches.    Some days we will get away with it - and at least the defence has improved - but there will be days where if we don''t improve this aspect of our play - we will get punished.

Against every team this season we have been guilty of giving the ball away too cheaply - way too cheaply - but I think that with the improved confidence the team is getting through good results, this can improve - better decision making will lead to better build up play and better retaining of possession.  That is all, no ulterior motives (bw''s cat), no trolling (Mr C) and where canarygirl is coming from I don''t know.  Just football.  Please.

  15.

It''s an interesting mentality when you defend a team that loses 5-0 at Fulham and 5-2 at home to Liverpool, but criticise a team that beats Manchester United & Arsenal, keeping two clean sheets in the process. Some might say it''s "positive trolling".
The dear boy is a mystery to me Mr Chops.  My grandson used to be very similar, one day he would enjoy peas pudding and the very next would cry at the sight of it. Of course when he grew up we discovered the real problem, it`s something that is rarely mentioned in the family now!
Oh dear, another who completely misses the point.   I sometimes wonder why I bother.     Its supposed to be about the club - you know - football?   Misplaced passes and that kind of thing.   The uber positive from yesterday is that we beat a top club and yet there is room for improvement.  The saying is true - "people ridicule what they don''t understand".....................

  16.
To get this thread back on the topic of plastics, I have to say it''s great to hear from you Lakey! It goes without saying that yesterday was a "just had to be there" occasion but I bet it also looked pretty good sitting on your own in your bedroom gawping at a constantlty freezing laptop screen many hundreds of miles from Carrow Road. Thankfully, mungo, you know nothing and demonstrate it with every post you make.  Love to all  Norwich supporters everywhere.

You might say that Mr. C but I think that is harsh.   I said in my posts its about looking ahead - seeing how we can go on improving.  Isn''t that what we all want?     I am a realist.   I try to see things as they are.  The realism says to me - a great result, now how can the team improve from here.    Not unreasonable, there is always room for improvement - unless you are one of those that because we beat "The Wonderful Man Utd"  that Christmas has come early.   No, it is just three points, great as it was - and there are things that need improving.

  18.

Don''t want to harp on about it (but I''m going to anyway) - the club is not - apparently - in the business of selling its best players - this is not 1994 - or any other year.   We do not have to sell him and he looks settled.  He has made a commitment and would presumably want to wait at least until there is only a year left on his contract before weighing up the options.  Its a bit doom and gloom to presume he will be sold as soon as the opportunity arises.   I think as a club we are above that now.
Agreed, we are not in the financial position where we need to sell, but nor are the likes of Arsenal, Man U, Spurs, but it seems all their players have a price. Football clubs are still ran as businesses (well most of them) and if a stupid offer came in for any of our players, i think the club would struggle not to accept it.
I agree with you there.  It all depends how stupid the offer is - £15m would be more tempting, but I think £10m would not nearly be enough to tempt the club.    If Ruddy wanted to go, then fair enough, £10m, but if he is happy and it is down to the club whether we sell him, at least£15m.

  19. Holt offers a lot more than just a goal threat.  Morison just doesn''t offer the same level of nuisance value as Holt.   And he is not exactly prolific in the goal scoring stakes either.    Holt should start - especially during this good run.   If things falter, that would be a time to change things around, Jackson can still do a good job too.

  20. 21. £10 million is nothing these days.  Even to Norwich, £10m would not go a long way.   We are not supposed to be a selling club anymore - not at the top end of the club, anyway.      Would the club rather have Ruddy or £10 million??  I would think the answer would be - keep Ruddy.   Finances are supposed to be in a good state - why would we need - or want - to sell him?       He wins points through his keeping.  To the club that''s worth more than just money.
