  1. I have been speculating on this every night...With the current squad, I reckon:

    GK - Ruddy

    RB - R Martin

    LB - Tierney

    CB - Whitbread

    CB - Barnett

    DM - Fox

    MRC - Crofts

    MLC - Johnson

    AMC - Hoolahan

    SC - Holt

    SC - Jackson

Subs - Rudd, De Laet, Surman, Bennett, Pilkington,

    Vaughan, Morison

TOUGH - I have had to leave out the following players that have had such an impact on this club in the last year or two - Ward, Drury, K Smith, C Martin, Lappin etc

  2. Barry Fry is like a second hand car salesman, and McAnthony isn''t much better.

They held clubs to ransom over Mackail-Smith, then he went to Brighton! Ha, maybe Cody should head to the south coast too...that would annoy the ''Posh''!

  3. These were all handling errors from Ruddy last season... Watford (h), Doncaster (a), Leicester (h), Burnley (h), Leeds (h), Swansea (a) - Ruddy flapped at the shot by Dobbie I think it was prior to the rebound dalling to Mark Gower for his excellent strike which resulted in the Taffs second goal that day, Watford (a), Coventry (h)

Not poor handling but dodgy keeping nonetheless... Crystal Palace (h) - not poor handling because Ruddy didn''t even get his hands on it when he should''ve done - controlled his area very badly that night too.

Millwall (a) - Ruddy came for a cross in the last minute and got no way near it - leaving an empty net.

Burnley (a) their 2nd and winning goal through Ruddy''s legs.

Bristol City (h) Adomah puts another one through Ruddy''s legs.

Forest (h) The infamous non clearance which led to Tyson''s flukey goal

    __________________________________________

I think the following goals were not Ruddy''s fault - Forest (H) - very unfortunate, Bristol City (H) - Surman was too slow in tracking Adomah''s run, Burnley (A) - are you serious?! Swansea (A) - he parried a good shot which was then not cleared properly, Leeds (H) Gradel was left unmarked

Think you are being a bit harsh - the reason why we concede a ot of goals is mainly our attacking philosophy. I think he had a good season overall and had a better first year than Green did when he became Number 1.

  4. Hear me out...

There is no doubt Forster is a great keeper, although Ruddy in my opinion has proved himself to be a good keeper too; but I just feel that if Lambert does sign Forster it could be a major error.

As I say it is not because he isn''t a good keeper - it is because I think it is bad for morale. Ruddy spent a long time last season emerging from FF''s shadow, and I feel he managed this with respect. It was also clear Ruddy was passionate about the team, promotion and his own game (the interview post-Swansea at home, running up the pitch to celebrate etc) and he is respected by his team mates.

I think signing Forster could drive a bit of a wedge in the team - I know the players liked him when he was here too, but it might show Lambert''s disloyalty to the players who got him there and break team spirit.

Maybe it is Lambert being ruthless for the good of the team, but I am worried about the implications of this signing!

  5. 1. Player -   Andy Hughes; I know he ended up getting a cult following but he epitomised everything that was wrong with us last time we got relegated from the PL.
    2. Goal -  Probably Robbie Fowler getting the winner in the 3-2 win at CR in the Prem after we had been 2-0 up and Delia had her half-time rant.  It was about the 92nd minute and the ball trickled apologetically over the line.  Just gutting...
    3. Match you''ve been to -  The 0-6 humbling at Fulham, partly the terrible nature of the defeat and ineptitude of the players, partly that I had to get back to Nottingham after with a severe headache after consuming too much beer.

     4. Manager -  Glen Roeder.  The man was just a disgrace to our club.

     5. Captain -   A few have worn the armband for no apparant reason - Fotheringham, Doherty come to mind.

    6. Kit - The one designed by Bruce Oldfield with the stripe down the side and everything shoved to the side.  Horrible, and itchy.

  6. I agree - I believe that Ruddy has actually proved himself at a higher level that Forster - because the Championship is better than SPL - the only game I saw Fraser play was against Rangers and he got sent off (familiar story).  I am not saying Forster isn''t a good keeper, in fact one-on-one he was excellent, but he has effectively been playing L1 level for two years now.

Ruddy made some mistakes, yes, but he was committed, passionate and also kept us in many games which seems to go unnoticed.  He also held his hands up when he made a mistake and seemed determined to improve.  Forster would still be a good signing in some ways, but signing him would stunt the development of Rudd and Steer, as we would have 4 good keepers under the age of 24!  I would prefer us to sign someone for a season with loads of experience as cover for Ruddy - Hahnemann springs to mind!

  7. I agree with one or two other posters on this one.

There is no doubt Barnett was a good signing for us and really gave us a boost at CB, as we only really had Ward and Nelson at the start of the year before Nelly got injured.  Askou didnt really cut it in the Championship, and Barnett was in good form.

However, I would have to say that Whitbread is a superior centre back (IMO)  Probably the highest compliment you can pay a centre back is when you hardly notice them make a lasp-gasp tackle, or diving header -this is generally because their positioning has been good and the danger has been snuffed out before hand.  Admittedly, W&W had bad games v Swansea, but as a partnership they only really lost that one game all season.  I think Barnett was great for the crowd to see no-nonsense clearances etc but this was often because he was hopelessly out of position in the first place.

For what it is worth, I would like to see Whitbread and Barnett start the season at CB (unless we sign anyone else) as I think they will compliment each other.  Ward will be back-up and De Laet can slot in across the back 4 if needed.

  8. Lambert''s signing record has been excellent thus far - I would argue that only Steven Smith and Wilbraham have been flops, and McNamee 50/50 - but all his signings have added to the squad.

So, we have no real reason to doubt him.

My only concern is that if we start losing a few games, who have we got with that real Premier League nous and experience who will hold us together and not worry about it?  I can see a few of these younger players and / or ones with no PL experience letting their heads get down.  No matter who your manager is, confidence is a big factor in the PL.

I don''t mean we should get over the hill players or ones who have just been relegated, but just a couple of wiser heads - maybe one in defence and one in midfield to add a bit of steel!
