  1. Although I haven''t done very well so far myself, my nephew bought Alan Shearer for Norwich and then proceeded to get us into the Premiership (YYYEEESSS). Unfortunately, even though he bought Thierry Henry once we had got to the Promised Land, we were relegated next season and he got a message from the chairman saying that he was sacked!

(Hope this isn''t a prediction of our fate by the end of next season, although getting there would be nice).

  2. It will be interesting to see what happens AFTER he gets a little run in the side, assuming he has done enough to convince D O''L that he deserves it - and I certainly think he did last night. When Angel is fit again I feel sure that Crouchy will find himself on the bench, at best. (What a waste). More time for him to ponder whether he really thinks he has a long-term future there or whether a move (to us IF all things work out, and assuming we can afford him) might be better. Although I doubt we''ll see him back soon, I suppose it''s a case of ''Never say Never''.

  3. I don''t know, in short, but there wouldn''t have been any point in doing anything until now to be in time for next Saturday as they have all had a long weekend break, I believe. Perhaps there''s something lined up for tomorrow or Wednesday, but maybe Worthy wants to see how things pan out in the next week or so before deciding if he needs to add some new faces to the mix.
I have read on another website today that we might be in for Steve Claridge on loan as he is apparently friends with Worthy and might welcome the chance to play at this level again. Don''t know what other people think about this. Like you, Franco, I think Kevin Harper would be an asset to us, but as he played for Portsmouth the other day it is possible their injury crisis is deep enough that Harry Redknapp won''t let anyone leave right now. Pity!

  4. I''m not sure about the shirt off thing at this time of the year. Might be asking for a chill, and the last thing we need is Darren in bed with the sniffles! However, I can understand the title of this thread. As I was feeling under the weather yesterday I decided to go to bed early and cheer myself up by reading all the EDPs and Pink ''Uns I have kept over the past few months. Doing this reminded me of all the truly amazing events on and off the field and made me really excited at the prospect of the coming three-and-a-bit months, whatever the final outcome. (As I said on another thread, if someone had told me that you-know-who would be a Norwich player by Christmas, if indeed at all, I would have thought them barmy. Likewise, if someone had said that we would be top of the league by now and would have been there for FIVE WEEKS, I would have recommended that they see a doctor!) Even this morning, as I flicked through the tv channels, we got a mention from David Frost on Breakfast With Frost at the beginning of an interview with Charles Clarke. (Big smiles from both of them as Sir David mentioned our lofty position).
There are some very hard games ahead of us, for sure, but to be where we are right now is FANTASTIC. Keeping my positive hat on, I say ''BRING IT ON!'' (Keep pinching yourself, Dumbledelia. It''s good for the circulation...but it doesn''t alter the amazing reality!!!)

  5. Thanks for all your support, guys.

You''ll not be surprised to know that I haven''t heard anything as yet, but I will allow a day or so before writing again as I don''t suppose some of the Sky journos are in every day. I won''t let it rest though.

I hate to say this, but I suspect it might be just the tip of a giant iceberg if we continue to do well. I''m convinced that there will be some other teams that will indulge in whatever it takes to try to rattle us and drag our name through the mud in public. (I''d be curious to know if Portsmouth or Leicester suffered the same fate last season. Perhaps the fact that they were so far ahead most of the time meant that nothing much similar happened to them). I don''t know about that, but what I do know is that our players and manager have emerged from all of this with our utmost respect for the self-discipline and dignity they showed in the midst of extreme provocation. Such a pity, then, that the viewing public only had the gospel according to saint Ronnie to accompany the images on the screen yesterday. No wonder we all felt so angry watching it!

  6. Anderz,
No reply yet, but I shall e-mail Skysports again if I don''t get one!

Just to fill you in a bit more as you didn''t see the prog., Ronnie Moore said again that he thought Hucks dived as he was going nowhere and had lost control of the ball. He also said that he thought the ref. gave their third goal to even up the penalty decision, suggesting he thought he had a guilty conscience about it. He took issue with the ref.''s comments about him being seen to speak aggressively to a Norwich player and poking him in the chest. ("I only tapped him on the shoulder"). The alleged spitting incident was given the Ronnie slant in its full glory, as you might imagine, with mention of the two witnesses who are prepared to testify that they saw Leon McKenzie ''do the dirty deed'', and there were even details about where Guy Branston was when he wiped the offending sputum from his face, and why he chose to do this sometime after the event and not at the time of the ''witnessed incident''.

You can see even more now, I guess, how my hackles rose as I watched the man being given free reign from his very public soapbox.

I''m not in Manchester, but in the depths of bootiful Norfolk (south), where it is damp and a bit grey today. How is it in your neck of the woods?

  7. I have just watched tonight''s Football League Review, on which Ronnie Moore was the studio guest. It was great to get a really balanced view re: all the incidents that took place at Millmoor on Saturday (places tongue firmly in cheek and takes a deep breath). In fact, I felt sufficiently annoyed by the programme that I have just e-mailed the Nationwide guru at Skysports (Mr. Kamara) to complain. Below is a copy of my e-mail. Please feel free, if you saw the programme and felt the same as I did, to do likewise.

    Dear Chris,

I just wanted to say how disappointed and puzzled I am that
Skysports has given Rotherham manager, Ronnie Moore, a platform
from which to speak on today''s Football League Review with regard
to the incidents which took place, or allegedly took place,
during the Rotherham v Norwich match last Saturday. With an FA
investigation apparently underway this would seem to me to be
rather irresponsible. I am also wondering, as there are
usually two sides to every story, if anyone from Norwich City was
invited to speak on the club''s behalf so that a balanced view
could have been presented during this programme. Your thoughts
on the matter would be appreciated.

I generally enjoy watching the Football League Review each week,
but I shall not watch it in the future if it becomes a glorified
opportunity for managers to put across their blinkered views on
controversial topics/incidents in which they themselves have been
directly involved, to the detriment of another club, as was the
    case in today''s programme.

(I will let everyone know if I get a reply!!!)

  8. Well said, Yellow Peril!
I shall remain optimistic to the very end, and I know I will look back on this season with a great deal of pride no matter what the outcome. (Friends have told me I have become a football junkie, so there must be something major to have caused this).
Incidentally, two days ago a Binner came into my office wearing an old town shirt. He saw my City desk calendar, my posters and stickers on the wall next to my desk. "How can you support them?", he asked. "We really hate you". My reply was short but sweet, and delivered with a smile. "I can live with the hate, but the reason I support City is that I was born here and have always loved the club, and right now we are where you would rather be in more ways than one". His answer to that: "We really hate you"! With that, he left, and my feelgood factor felt just a little bit better still. Nothing like a reasoned argument to get the day underway!

  9. Hucks also said when he signed that it was going to be very difficult to get what we all want come the end of the season, so that suggests he knows full well what struggles lay ahead. Also, as I said on another thread, I don''t think we''ll see the very best of him until he is fully settled (in his new house) and relaxed here. Even so, it seems as if he had a really good game yesterday so perhaps the Norfolk air (on a permanent basis) is having a good effect already!
Couldn''t agree more with everything you say, cityangel. If you feel like a communal prayer sometime let us all know! Remember that we are where all the other teams would rather be right now.

  10. After last weekend, when expectations were so high after a fantastic Christmas for us, I think it was inevitable that we should all feel really down. However, I have now resolved to remain VERY POSITIVE for the rest of the season, come what may. If we don''t make it, as I''ve said before, it won''t be for lack of effort. But I DO think we will, one way or the other. Hopefully Worthy will have everyone at HQ thinking the same, and we''ll see evidence of it tomorrow at Millmoor. Come on City. You can do it!!!

  11. Must admit to feeling a degree of horror and outrage at the dealings of this man, as seen on yesterday''s prog. Thank goodness for Delia and Co. Human beings in the best sense of the word. I slept very soundly last night knowing they share the same passion that I do!

  12. Bless you, Geordie, for having your blinkers off, unlike Mr. Crooks. I SOOOO hope we make him eat his words.
As for the FA Cup, I''m going to be hoping your boys make it as it would be a refreshing change to the usual suspects and great for Sir Bobby and the wonderful Mr. Shearer. (Even though your manager has ''blue'' connections, I have enormous respect for him and his achievements. The way he conducts himself reflects very well on your club).
All the best next Monday against Fulham. I''ll be watching with interest.

  13. My uncle and cousins live in Wallsend and are part of the Toon Army. They always look for our result on Saturdays and they are of the same opinion as your good self at the moment re:
our team. It''s nice to know that some people are taking a little bit of notice of us now...although some of us would say that we are quite happy to be ignored by the majority for various reasons - until April, that is!!!

  14. He came on last week for the final two minutes of the Villa v Portsmouth game, at the same time as Crouchy did, so he can''t be injured still. If I remember rightly, Portsmouth had masses of injuries that night and Harry Redknapp said that he was scraping the barrel to turn a side out. Doesn''t seem as if Harps has much of a future there then! I''d like to see him back as many of you apparently would.

  15. If someone had told me at the start of the season that Darren Huckerby would become a Norwich player before the end of the year I would have thought them totally barmy! But it''s happened, and I still find it hard to take in when I stop to think about it. Yes, we would like him to turn up in Cardiff mode and do the business every game, but that''s not possible. The guy is human and, as has been said, he needs others around him to perform as well. Also, have we stopped to think about what else is going on for him right now? Moving house is one of the most stressful things you have to do in life, and getting settled in new surroundings takes time, and your mindset isn''t the same when you are only in a place for what you believe to be a short period of time. A week or so ago Marc Edworthy was reported as saying that, at Coventry, Hucks played at his best consistently when he was relaxed, happy and settled. I, for one, think that his best is yet to come, not least because the past few weeks must have been a real rollercoaster for him. It certainly was for us waiting to hear any news, so imagine what it must have been like for him. Keep the faith everyone. I shall!

  16. Almost everyone has some good points on here. I was disappointed (understatement) this weekend at how the team performed and at how some sections of the crowd performed in certain respects (no need to go over the same ground again). I couldn''t believe my ears when I heard some supposed City fan saying that Hucks was a waste of money as I left the ground. (Wish I was a bit taller than 5 foot 4, then I might have stood a chance of hitting him at the source of the comment!). I also couldn''t believe how quiet things were almost throughout the game. Surely a wall of noise (ok there wasn''t a lot to get excited about for various reasons, but there''s no harm in trying to create some sort of atmosphere) would have inspired something to happen out there, even if it was just that we went down bursting every blood vessel in the process!
Anyway, it''s gone... over, and everyone involved must learn from it, us included. (I''m sure Worthy and his staff will be doing everything possible to put things right for next weekend, and we should all trust him to do that. It is his job, and if the players are the people I think they are they will do all in their power to get something creditable out of the game at Rotherham). I don''t believe that it will be through lack of effort overall that we may ultimately fail...and we do have to face the fact that we might fail eventually, although it would be a catastrophic decline in form over the next 3 months that would see us not even make the play-offs. However, I prefer to see things in a more positive light. We are still top by two points...and would any of you not taken that if offered at the start of the season? All of the top teams still have to play the majority of their main rivals (lots of twists and turns to come then), and we have players of real quality now, even more so than when we got to Cardiff in 2002.
What have I learned from Saturday? Well, that even though I continue to get strange looks from those around me, I will continue to shout for my team and encourage individuals within it, even if they are not my personal favourites. One of the things I think we have as a big advantage over some of our rivals is our togetherness, and that''s right from the boardroom, to the manager/staff and the squad, down to us humble (?!) fans. West Brom have shown recently how anxiety can creep into all areas of a club and affect performances. I am sure that the majority of us wouldn''t want that to happen to us, so please let''s show a united front and really get behind the team. After Saturday that is what they need most, not the slagging off that has gone on in the heat of the moment from some people who perhaps needed to take a day or two to sit back and think about it more rationally. Leave the anger/disappointment bit to Worthy, and perhaps give yourself a minute to be proud of what has been achieved so far, and TRY to look forward to what might be yet to come! (The P word is banned in my house and at work. I hope that will help us succeed in the end. How fantastic would that be?!!!!)

  17. I have just read on Sky Sports News that Dean Windass needs a hernia op and will be missing for about six weeks. I guess that means we won''t be able to see again on Saturday what we missed out on a few years back. Bryan Robson, promoting a book in Manchester this afternoon, said that the match on Saturday against us would be very tough, but he hoped to gradually get their season back on track and get themselves safe. I hope they do, especially when playing our main rivals...but not until after 10/1/04!
In reference to another thread, I have also just read that Jamie Cureton is interesting Bristol City, even though he is currently training with Sunderland. Perhaps Sunderland feel that, although a good player, he is not what they really need at this moment in time. Is he what we need? Indeed, do we need anyone else right now? Any comments please.

  18. It was interesting to see PC and Kevin Harper having quite a chat as they walked off the pitch last night. I couldn''t help wondering if they were talking about their time at Norwich and speculating as to whether they might meet up here again at some point in the future! I, for one, would like to see it happen. Even though on for just a couple of minutes PC did some good stuff, again...but the Villa fans still don''t seem to have taken to him or show signs of appreciating him. (I think that''s why PC is referred to as ''our'' Crouch in this thread. It only shows how much we valued and respected him, even though he is, of course, Villa''s player).

  19. I don''t know if there''s any truth regarding whether CS wants to return to Norwich in the future or not, but I do know that he spends quite a bit of time down here in the summer (as does his brother, John) as they turn out for Drayton C. C. in the Hansells Norfolk League several times over the season. Both are more than decent cricketers too. Perhaps the fact that he does spend time here means that he wouldn''t mind a return to NCFC. Who knows?

As this is my first post on here this year, Happy New Year everyone!

  20. They have just announced it on Radio Five Live as well! Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!
Am now prepared publicly to state that I do believe in Santa. I would have given up all my pressies for this! A huge thanks to Worthy for all his patience and persistence. He''s a real hero in my eyes. Now for three points...please.

  21. I am just sitting here, very confused, and wondering if anyone out there on either side is attempting to build any bridges, mend any fences, etc. My dad''s just phoned to say he is too ill to come for Christmas, so I guess I''ve got a long time to think about it...but so far, I haven''t come to any sane conclusions from what seems to have been a mess. Does anyone else feel the same? Is it utterly hopeless, or might it all seem a bit different when everyone has had a chance to sit back and re-evaluate?

  22. If this turns out to be the absolute end of the matter then I shall ultimately be a bit sad for Darren, I think. I hope for his sake that, whatever he decides to do in the near future, he doesn''t ever regret it and think to himself ''I wonder what life there could have been like if only money hadn''t got in the way?'' and ''I wish I had given it a go with them, after all I was happier there than I had been for some time''. (I am assuming, of course, that it was the severence pay that stood in the way of things happening, but, unlike some, I don''t doubt his sincerity that he would have liked to be here if something could have been sorted out).
This has been a strange business throughout. I''m not pinning my hopes on anything now, but it wouldn''t surprise me if things took yet another twist somewhere along the line...just because the whole affair has been so bizarre.

  23. I agree with your optimism, Ash.
Knowing the Worthy of the past who has tended to paint a rather negative picture even when there were some small grounds for optimism, I don''t think he would be intentionally be leading us up the garden path unless he was pretty confident. Having thought about this for a few minutes I have to conclude that I trust his optimism fully. I may end up with massive dollops of egg on my face if it still fails to happen, but he is the one in-the-know and we are not, so I think that trust is the order of the day. I am publically prepared to come on here tomorrow and confess that I believe in Santa Claus if it happens by 12 on Wednesday. Any other takers?

  24. I have just been looking at the Skysports website and saw that they are inviting people to write in with their Christmas sporting wishes. Not being shy at stating my love for my club, I have just posted my thoughts to them, for what they are worth. Perhaps other posters on here might like to do the same. If nothing else it will show how we feel about the entire team and all things green and yellow. (I''m not telling you what I wrote, even though quite predictable...but it would be interesting if they were inundated by similar messages over the next day and a half!!!)
In case I don''t write anything else between now and Thursday, I hope everyone has a great Crimbo. See you at Carrow Road, henceforth known as Mecca, on Boxing Day!
