1. We''re a team that lacks skill. We will always have a more torrid time against the best teams than some of our rivals, because as many have found against barca, running and passion can only do so much. I''m not surprised we haven''t replicated the great performances of say Old Trafford because invariably skill will beat hard-work and organisation. But that said, apart from the top 6 matches and WBA where we didn''t turn up and Villa where we made horrendous mistakes, we have not deserved to lose. Those games are against our rivals and that should see us good alone. That said, we always improved as the season progresses under lambert, and we will add some quality in January.

 2. I watched the Spurs goals again and something dawned on me. Last year the defending for those goals would have been deemed good. For the first we crowded adebayor tight and forced him to make a difficult pass. For the second we showed bale out wide and to run away from goal. But then last year we were playing in the championship and 99 times out of 100 I reckon we wouldn''t have conceded from either situation. Looking back at many of the goals we have challenged the other team to have a go, more often than not they fail but when they succeed it stands out. Of course this strategy is a spring board for a counter-attacking offence which we''ve done well but I''m a little concerned that the coaching for these players (who are almost exclusively from the lower leagues) is geared towards a less clinical opposition. But that is obviously also something that can be taught and developed.

 3.
"the idiots in the snakepit" is not the same thing as "The Snakepit are idiots" though, is it?Can''t be denied however that there are a sizeable number of knuckle dragging single figure IQ f*cktards in the Snake Pit.
Semantics Chops. It was a pretty universal chant. For the record I thought it was rather humorous, the first time.

 4.

The results are really important. I don''t think any of the bottom three are as bad as their standing and goal points make out. Wigan seem capable of good performances but unable to convert them into wins for whatever reason, Blackburn would be a mid-table candidate without Kean and Bolton have had some of the cruellest injury problems. I personally see the Wolves game as a must lose, as I can''t help but feel that they are one of the weaker teams (particularly minus Fletcher) and QPR look poor and I was not convinced despite their solid start.
I''d rather see us win to be honest.......[;)]
What an unfortunate typo!I just don''t want to see those lovely wolves fans get any more upset. Otherwise they might be getting out the banners again...

 6.
David Fox attempted 78 passes yesterday (20 more than Kyle Naughton who attempted the second most) and his pass completion rate was 83 %. This indicates what Fox does, he gets the ball passes it to a team mate and remains open to receive the return pass. It his ability and composure in possession that allow players like Hoolahan, Crofts, Surman, Holt and Morison to make the runs that lead to goal scoring opportunities. Out of all the Premier League games played yesterday Fox attempted the most passes of any midfielder and was only behind Ashley Williams (85 attempted) and Laurent Koscielney (79 attempted) that''s pretty impressive.
If you discount set-pieces the percentage is even higher. Furthermore he attempts more long-balls than any of his contemporaries in midfield, yet still retains an incredibly high pass percentage, a testament to his ball playing ability and his read of the game.

 7. Whenever the England National Team lose the lack of home-grown players is always whipped out as a stick to beat the Premier League. I find it amazing that so little is made out of our team being all British (bar the Irish Maestro) and all have come from youth teams and made their way through the leagues. Our team is a testament to the hard-work and perseverance that many young British players possess but feels lacking in the "foreign legion".

 8. Beth is spot on 4-4-1-1. At home we see a lot more out of the wide players so it''s a natural 4-2-3-1. I think it''s ideal. If we need to defend a lead then it can revert back to a defensive 4-4-1-1, if we need to press, then the attacking diamond is perfect and was incredibly effective in the past two years at getting goals late on as it helps press defenders very high up the pitch. The important thing is that we have the players available and suitable for all these formations, and particularly for transitioning to the diamond, we have on the bench Grant Holt who is probably one of the most effective short-term game changes in the league.
