What would Neil Adams have done in the transfer window...

Recommended Posts

What would Neil Adams have done in the transfer window. Maybe he knew the squad needed a few additions i.e. a left winger and another midfielder.

Maybe he was waiting for the transfer window and didn''t get that opportunity.

Whether the appointment of AN proves to be a good decision, the coming weeks and months will tell. But please don''t suggest that the removal of Adams was in any way regrettable. It is the single decent decision to come from Carrow Road in the past couple of years (AN appointment, jury still out).

There''s plenty enough for us to ponder at present without worrying about Adams''s thoughts. After all, we have seen some of his earlier choices.

I can tell you what Neil Adams has done in the transfer window:
> Got up about 9am
> Leisurely walk to the local shop to buy bread, milk and a paper
> Nap
> Cash In The Attic followed by Antiques Hunt
> Start drinking
> Fifteen to One
> Neighbours
> Cheese on Toast for dinner
> Check EDP Jobsearch 24
> Coronation Street
> Log in as "City 1st"
> Get thread deleted
> Go to bed

Sold a few, bought a few, put a few out on loan and got a couple on loan etc etc etc. I think at least him and Phelan would''ve known some players to look at outside Scotland.
some would argue that he shouldn''t have got the chance given that his team couldn''t even get us in the play-offs.
There is no reason to doubt that over the course of the season we wouldn''t have ended up in the playoffs, maybe even winning them under Adams, he had a bad run at the same point as Hughton had a good one. Hughton got rewarded with 18 more months and Adams was pushed out. Neither were pulling up trees with their management and I think if Hughton had gone at the end of his first season we would never have been in the situation we are in now. Adams would still be learning within the club and we would still be in the PL.

Alex Neil is clearly not an improvement over Adams, either may one day be great managers or be best suited to coaching or an assistant role. Phelan would have been much the same gamble.

I just hope that AN can prove that he can make things happen once his full team is in place.

However, back in the PL next season seems very unlikely and surviving if we did even less so.

The reason we have little choice at LM is because NA got rid of Pilkington and Surman, so there''s no guarantee he would have got one in during the transfer window.

Adams said multiple times that he felt Surman was an important part of the squad going forward and wanted him to stay. Interestingly, every player he said that about signed a contract extension - Hoolahan etc. So I would hazard a guess that the same was offered to Surman but he still wanted to leave. This can be seen by the fact that over the summer Surman played large chunks of the key pre season fixtures.

In the case of Neil Adams having quite a good start to the season being top of the table for a while etc... if the tables were reversed and Adam Neil was in Neil Adams position and had the same run of results as Neil Adams... would he have been forced to resign in a similar fashion or would he be given the benefit the doubt because of his Hamilton experience & success behind him with Neil Adams only being forced to resign because of his ''lack of experience and ''that guy off the radio'' label?

Basically would any other manager have been given the time to continue and improve with the dip in form only seen as temporary as Norwich were not far from the play off positions at all?

His fa youth cup triumph and radio commentaries would have been cited as relevant experience.

Some might argue that Mrs. Miggins. Others, who are more interested in all of the facts, would argue that, from a total points perspective, since Neil Adams departure we are now in a worse position overall compared to those that are above us. Hopefully, as Alex Neil gains greater awareness of what he''s working with, we will make some progress and get into the playoff picture in a solid fashion. We won''t have much of a better opportunity to do that than in the next couple of games.
