Experience v Rookie

Recommended Posts

Does an experienced manager guarantee success more or less than a first time manager? There are many experienced managers out there who I personally would rather not be Norwich City manager. The merry go round managers. What level of experience is then required. Premiership , League 1 , Abroad and so on. Can we compare Adams to Walkers in house appointment? Everyone has their own opinion on who we should appoint. Karl Robinson is a popular choice. Is he up to managing a bigger club, like Lambert, or is he a perfect match for MK Dons, similar to Howe at Bournemouth. Steve Bruce is vastly experienced. Would he bring success? Gary Monk has very little experience but is doing rather well at Swansea.

You are right in that there is no guarantees whatever we look at, but in our case, we have a mainly young and talented squad who need guidance and motivation. We have high expectations in this division and this is not a time for a novice to be learning the ropes.

How much of how a club performs is down to the manager? A good manager will come in and sort out the coaching system, building up more than just the first team eg Wenger, Rosler and Sir Fergie. In Gary Monk''s case the footballing setup was already in good order plus he''s probably got the knack to be able to do a reasonable job elsewhere. There''s more to experience and this is shown when good managers ''inexplicably'' fail at certain clubs. Norwich''s problem isn''t so much about the manager lacking experience, it''s that the footballing setup is poorly run. Experience obviously helps, but it isn''t a cure for all a club''s ills. Lambert had some experience but not loads. He performed a miracle but was ultimately frustrated by a boardroom lacking ambition and direction, and was eventually sacked.
