Bill 1,788 Posted October 23, 2014 it was promotion that came from nowherewe travelled up to Hillsborough with only a point needed to stop Leicester from equalling our points total (71)Sheff Weds had been in 3rd place for 9 games out of the previous eleven so had thought they were certs for a promotion place (no play offs, top 3 promoted.)we had been on a unbelievable run of 10 wins out of the previous 11 games - thereby hauling us into that last promotion spotand we scored first, but with fans on the pitch they scored two in reply and it looked as if we had been denied certain promotion P W D L F A W D L F A W D L F A GDPt 1Luton Town40 24 12 4 82 43 16 2 2 47 18 8 10 2 35 25 +3984 2Watford41 23 11 7 74 39 13 6 2 46 16 10 5 5 28 23 +3580 3Norwich City41 22 5 14 63 48 14 3 4 41 19 8 2 10 22 29 +1571 4Rotherham United41 20 7 14 64 51 13 5 3 42 19 7 2 11 22 32 +1367 5Sheffield Wednesday41 19 10 12 53 50 9 8 3 29 22 10 2 9 24 28 +367 6Queens Park Rangers41 20 6 15 63 42 14 4 2 38 8 6 2 13 25 34 +2166 7Barnsley41 19 9 13 58 40 13 4 4 33 14 6 5 9 25 26 +1866 8Leicester City40 18 11 11 56 45 12 4 4 31 19 6 7 7 25 26 +1165

Under the old system Sheffield Wednesday, with 20 wins to our 22 but 10 draws to our mere 5, would have been promoted with 50 points to out 49. For a while afterwards getting promoted with loads of wins (even with many losses) became known as "doing a Norwich City".I had to run (well, a quick walk at least) for a train at the final whistle, so it was only when a load of Gillingham fans got on at Chesterfield that I found out we had been promoted. Thorny 0 Posted October 25, 2014 That was my first away game - and on club cabbage. Used many times in the later 80s as a student. Never used again until Hux/Dublins last game - vs Sheff Weds. Won''t do again as...too many reasons!Sheffield Weds ground I would do again but alas not today. Paid for fright fest at Thorpe Park more attractive and guaranteed entertainment after the past months offerings for us.
Levi Stubbs 0 Posted October 25, 2014 Memories, memories....One of mine of the day was when our coach stopped somewhere on the A17 on the way up to Sheff, (Cheerio Cafe possibly?), along with other coaches. Although it was probably only about 10, many boys had been on the sauce started standing along, (and ON THE ROAD!!) clapping and cheering any vehicles that contained City fans.. there were one or two near misses and vehicles having to slam on the anchors needless to say...[:D][:D][:D]Those were the days indeed... lake district canary 4,531 Posted October 25, 2014 Last time I went to Hillsborough was in 1993 - but what a great match. Wouldn''t go out of place this season with the way our season is going so far. 3-0 down at half time, a scorcher of a goal from Mark Bowen and a good draw for 3-3. City didn''t score first, Berschin equalised late on but they got the last gasp winner as there fans invaded the pitch. In fact if the Wednesday player hadn''t tucked the cross in then there was a Wednesday fan nicely positioned to score.[:)]
