More research on the RVW mystery

Recommended Posts

I''ve just celebrated slapping the Scum by taking in Maritimo beating Academica 2-1 (on holiday in Madeira). These two teams are comfortably mid-table Portuguese Premier League clubs. Many have commented that RVW couldn''t cope with the physicality of the BPL, but that''s nonsense given the two physical defences I''ve witnessed today. If RVW was a free scorer in Portugal it was not because the defences were not up to BPL standards strength wise. Only conclusion therefore is he was not used to his strengths.

As a footnote, if we are looking for a strong, sensible, ball playing centre back the Maritimo no. 5 is defo one to consider.

Isnt the bigger mystery why we all bought into the thought of him being a freescorer when he was getting 14 a season in the Portuguese league and some of those were penalties. He was also known for hatricks... which would suggest getting bursts of goals not runs of them.

Wasn''t the mystery solved with the arrival of a free scoring Grabban. RVW was shite.

Johnny, the ground is undergoing complete refurbishment. Think Carra Rudd being turned 90 degrees, then four new stands being built, but the club run out of money only a quarter in to the project. So fans have drifted away so rather like watching Rotherham at the old Don Valley stadium - 4,000 in one stand, 10% tourists on holiday at that! When finished will only hold 10,000 though.
