Do not understand

Recommended Posts

Never understand this thing about not playing a strong team for these cup matches, it''s not fair on the fans and it never happened years ago . There was a smaller first team squad but players were not rested, it''s a shame these cup matches have become a way of playing reserves .

With the size of our squad it would be unfair on the players not to even give them a chance. No one would moan about a ''weakened'' squad if we won 5-0. How do you expect the fringe players to prove themselves?

That''s the mistake they made in doing away with reserve football , players like goalkeepers end up sitting on the bench for weeks on end and never getting a chance to play , should. Not use the cup to play them , devalues the competition

I understand why we didn''t win today. The crux of the matter is that few of those players have played more than one game in the last month, and even less of them have played together. New partnerships all over the pitch, you can''t expect them to click instantly. The idea of our second 11 being competitive in the championship only works if they''ve had time to play together like the first team have.

That was my point when we had a reserve league the second squad would play together and prepare for first team action . Just throwing them all together is never going to work , should have a least one or two first team regular strikers on the bench as a back up , lets hope this has not destroyed our recent good run and we can get back to winning next weekend

I don''t think anyone would dispute that it makes sense in the early rounds of the cup to give several fringe players a chance.

But I really object to this idea that the league is all important and that cups don''t matter, and to change all 11 is just ridiculous.

It is also completely self defeating as it not only got us knocked out but it didn''t give any of those players a chance to show what they could do in the first team because they weren''t playing with the first team, or in fact a team at all. Just 10 other players who happened to need a game.

This is the cup competition to go for.

It is early in the season, it does not effect the league campaign at the crunch end of the season like the fa cup.

They should move the fa cup schedule so that it does mean it does not effect later on.

You will always have fringe players playing in it due to the fact it is early in the season but you pick a squad that is capable for the whole season. So no concerns there it is knockout and this sometimes happen. It happens to us a lot as it happens to many others.

Not bothered about cup competitions and certainly fa cup comes at the wrong time in the season. The club has to concentrate solely on the championship and promotion.

Our team had plenty of players capable of winning the game last night but we did not. As mentioned some of those players are not as good as may be we thought and adams has said few of them will be knocking on the door for an immediate recall to a starting 11 place.

But if we had stayed up would eb be here, would garrido be here, we have dropped a division and suck with a number of layers who do need game time. It was a poor run out and now they have no platform to express themselves competitively till the fa cup.

Roll on Saturday and there will be changes to our first 11 and bench as we have seen that our performances have needed a little freshening up with the one man show that is Cameron Jerome winning the game at brentford (although ruddy had a lot to say in that) and the recovery against Birmingham.

It was an incredibly strong team, good enough to be a mid table championship side. The reason why we lost was most likely down to the fact that none of them had played together beforehand;

Rudd - had a great season in league 1 last year

whitts- our regular for the first few games, scotland international

Cuellar - been a regular in the PL 5 in the last 6 years

Miquel - Arsenal youth, spent last year in a promotion winning season with leicester

garrido - played well in Hughton''s first season in the PL, covered for Olsson recently quite well in the championship

Bennet - was fantastic in the PL with pilks on the other side

Ofoe - highly rated, we''ll see

Howson - fantastic player

O''Neil - a really key part in QPR''s promotion

Lafferty - well travelled, tall, technically good, decent championship player

Hooper- Celtic legend, championship and SPL goal machine :)

They might be 11 decent players but they were most certainly not a team.

Would imagine that Howson was virtually the only one who has actually got more than a few minutes game time with any of his ''team'' mates.

We looked totally out of sorts last night.Woeful that we didn''t manage even one shot on target but fair play to Shrewsbury. They were certainly up for it and I hope they get a decent draw in the next round. On the plus side for most of us it was a new ground and the centre of Shrewsbury is a very pleasant place to enjoy a few pints to take away the pain.

I guess that NA will have learnt little about these players last night but a lot about team selection for these types of matches. Sure....4,5 even 6 changes with a strong bench....BUT, what he actually did was asking for trouble and meant we have missed out on a potential big pay day or two. Shame, but that said its not unusual for us or other larger teams to go out early with weakened teams in this Cup.....even PL did it!

The only thing that matters is an immediate return to the prem. All this cup offers is injuries, fatigue, distraction and a futile defeat in a late round at best.

Its good for getting games for returning stars from injuries and experience for the kids but nothing more in my opinion.

If it wasn''t worth it for Lambert it''s not worth it for me.
