Reported target and a bid by an un-named source.

Been working some last season stats and some odd nuggets came out -   in the prem which two players had identical stats for having won the largest % of games (31%),  gained the most points per game (1.1) and lost the lowest proportion of games they started (50%, both co-best with Wessi,  Yobo & Ryan Bennett)?    My flabber was truly ghasted.

Worst win ratio was Whittaker (just 12.5% of starts) who also racked up defender with most goals per game conceeded (1.88) & worst points per game gained (0.69)

Yet previous to that that we won more points per game and conceded less goals with Whittaker in the team than Martin.

We also had an ok start to the season just gone with Whittaker in the team but from then on he was only used sporadically so it''s possibly a bit harsh on him when he never got a good run of games to recapture his best form.

Not casting any judgement on any player mentioned with these stats,   just reporting facts.     And you are absolutelty right, context always has to be applied to data.

Likewise the player with with the worst loss to start ratio was Johnny Howson,  losing more than 6 out of 10 starts - yet he had the 7th best win ratio (he simply does not do draws)

Interesting thoughts on a decent start to the season,   we averaged about point a game which we carried on with until teh spring - a long start to the season.   But if that (or the two players mentioned above had started every game) we would have had between 38 and 42 points - more than adequate to survive.

For the record, I really did mean the start. Very respectable draw with Everton and winning against Southampton.

Please use this thread as it was started a lot earlier and by a proper NCFC fan.

Yeah, I didn''t want to get into it too much seeing as the thread wasn''t originally about it.

The Hull game was a bit of a dodgy one because of the penalty, sending off and Hughton''s subsequent total failure to adjust to it.

The Spurs game was the main one though. Whittaker had a bad day and got dropped as a result - it was a bit knee-jerk. Martin replaced, had many, many bad days but kept his spot.
