Ya know whats amazing happening here in America

Also big time scholarships are generally only given out to "traditional" US sports, mainly throwball and Basketball. There are exceptions but generally if given the chance most sportsmen will follow the dollar dollar rather than the love.Although Oguchi Onyewu was offered throwball and basketball careers and opted for soccer i believe. For the record whatever happened to Freddy Adu?Touted as the next big thing and hyped like crazy he seemed to just disapear.

You have no idea about athletic scholarships (an oxymoron if there ever was one). Golf, swimming, wrestling, tennis, lacrosse, softball, field hockey, real hockey, volleyball, diving, gymnastics, track and field, and on and on are competed at the college level by students getting a free ride. It''s not just traditional American sports, although obviously those ones generate the most interest, ticket sales and tv money.

What do you mean that Gooch was "offered" careers in other sports?

As for Adu, he was overhyped by know-nothing journos. He''s played for the mens team a few times but must have peaked early because there are several younger players than him on the current team while he seems to have faded.

Apparently the game wes referred to as "Soccer" in Britain before "Football" and came from an appreviation of the word "Association" from Association Football....and was even called "Assoccer" at one stage.... how strange, although it has been called "Football" since 1881....so its seems it is the majority of us who are getting it wrong if we go back to the history of it............ perhaps our club should change its name to Norwich City Soccer Club?

Exactly, DM. It''s called association football to separate it from all the othr footballs that are played at home and around the world.

USA invented potato chips and the English call them crisps. Nobody in America cares. Too bad the English can''t be so carefree about soccer, especially since it''s an English-made word. And the way English people say Los Angeleeeez! What is that? But nobody in California cares.

Get the feeling its taking off more than before. Can see a stage in the future where the MLS might get a Premier League style financial boom with a massive TV deal, then the Premier League might not be able to compete and the best players might want to go and play in the States rather than the Premier League, Spanish League or Bundersliga.

The big advantage and reason why America will keep getting better and potentially win the world cup in the future is the weather being continuosly good.

HA HA HA HA HA! That is hilarious. India has several climate zones similar to the ones in the US. Some too hot and humid, some very cold, some dry etc. Indonesia has tropical warmth busy aren''t in the World Cup.

Seriously, Europe seems to hsve the most football friendly climate.

Nexus what Ice Cold Pineapple said was right about scholarships. It is actually pretty great the scholarship program here in the States. American Football and College basketball bring in probably 95% of all of the revenue dollar wise but it is shared evenly dollar wise through out all of the sports. You are talking, Swimming,"Soccer", baseball, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, Golf, Track, wrestling etc etc etc

So college athletes take advantage of that opportunity and then get real jobs unless you are one of the very best that stay with your sport. Only 1/10th of 1% make anything and stay with the sport as a career. The main sports here are NFL #1, Baseball then basketball and hockey probably tied.
