Squad number confirmed...

Recommended Posts

..For the coming season apparently. To be announced on Twitter shortly.

One would assume we could glean a bit of info as to who is staying from this?

With the new kit going on sale today, will maximise the shirt auxiliary sales for those who want names and numbers.

I know we can''t take too much from this, but Martin switching to number 5 certainly implies he may be used more as a Center Half?

Maybe the vacant number 3 hints that we are looking for a new left-back, there have been no shortage of rumors that suggest Olsson may be off.

Immediate reaction is that Wolf, Bassong and Surman will be on their merry way in the not-too-distant-future.

Johnson, Howson, Fer, Tettey are current CM. Surman is out.
Grabban, Hooper, Lafferty, Loza are current ST.
Whittaker is only RB.
Martin shuffled over to CB, along with Turner and Bennett. Bassong is out.
Hoolahan keeps 14.
No change to LB.
By the look of this targets will be another RB and CB. Possibly why number 3 is being kept open?

Looks pretty definite about Bassong and probably RvW and Olsson as well. On the plus side it looks like Hooper is staying (for now), as is Turner. Still a bit of a guessing game though.

Bassong number 30...also interesting. We shall see

Olsson is an iffy issue. He hasn''t changed from his number last year (which is usually a good sign) but the fact that number 3 was vacant and he (as our first choice LB didn''t get it) is concerning.

Olsson has kept his number, those that have changed:

Whittaker was 3 now 2

Martin was 2 now 5

Grabban 7 (new)

Lafferty 9 (new)

Loza taking 16

RvW moving to 20 (the lowest other than 3 free number when moving)

Josh Murphy to 21

Jacob Murphy to 25

Bassong to 30

Regarding Olsson a lot of players prefer 23 - its a Michael Jordan thing.

Beckham used it when at Madrid (and told he couldn''t have 7 due to Raul).

I would expect it is Olsson''s first choice.

(Also, 20 is a pretty popular number amongst players but never known why)

We have had a couple of influential players playing number 20, we had Damian Francis and Dickson Etuhu both wearing it from midfield and both were prominent in those teams

Would have liked a good new CB to take the 5 shirt - "if" Bassong was to leave.

They are squad numbers. It means F All whether they are 2 or 52 if the price is right they will go. All this speculating he''s going coz he''s number x or he''s staying coz he''s number Y, dear god

Humiliating for RvW and Bassong to "lose" their number. This surely means they will be leaving. A manager can''t do this to players if he believes in them and plans with them for the future.

Not to sure about Andy Surman. He was sent out on loan by Chris Hughton and his number 11 shirt was given to Gary Hooper when he joined the club.

Surprised to see Wes Hoolahan and Anthony Pilkington keep their numbers as they didn''t take part in the last few games under Neil Adams.

Olsson needed an operation this summer on his shoulder i think it was, has caused him problems all season. Adams confirmed last month he hadnt had the op. Is that because hes on his way, and maybe couldnt sell him whilst recovering from an op because he wouldnt get through a medical.

Surely if he was staying he would have had the op soon as the season ended.
