Barry Simmonds Chief Scout

Recommended Posts

Is this the same guy who was responsible for wasting all that money on Luiz (£12M & sent on loan to PSV after 6 mths last Jan after scoring no goals) and that guy from Olympiarcos for another £12M, who only played in 3 games (again no goals) geat stuff

He will make the c..k up with the Wolfs purchase look insignificant

I am worried ?

Give the bloke a start! Perhaps he did have a couple of big failures, but then our signings under Hughton were a mixed bunch!

We are little old Norwich, - difficult to attract proven quality. Would you rather have had a completely inexperienced scout? Look at the dismissal of Adams as inexperienced.

Perhaps the man will be a big flop, perhaps he was the only one remotely interest in the job, I don''t know. But give him the chance!

I recall that our transfer failings were laid at Hughton''s door. Now according to this argument it was Ewan Chester''s fault all along. Hmmm.

Simmons is presumably known to McNally from his time at Fulham so a known quantity. No bad thing. Plus there are now checks and balances in place to guard against poor purchases.

So let''s give him Simmonds and the new arrangements a chance.

So he has been at Fulham for quite a few years and you can find two transfers that went wrong. Tw@!!

Do you mean Ruiz who was there for 2 1/2 years, helped keep them up for two seasons, was rumoured to cost nearer 7m and is going to be playing in n a world cup quarter final tonight. Yeah he''s rubbish...

My main concern is that Fulhams transfer strategy for years has been to pay over the odds wages for experience rather than youth.

That may be a club rather than scout strategy but signings of berbatov, bent, duff, riise, taraabt as well as ruiz and hangeland are the norm rather than the exception leading to a sometimes exciting too often inconsistent performing team.

Hopefully he can deliver what our footballing board needs.

It''s hard to judge scouts, as they can only be judged on what happens which is pretty much in control of the manager and board.

Fulham have had an interesting time with transfers, brining in many older players who were written off but been excellent for them. Duff is a great example of this, he was fantastic for Fulham for a good few seasons and was signed for little cost.

Amongst all the exotic foreign imports Fulham also discovered players such as Smalling and Dan Burn from the lower leagues.

Apparently Simmonds spotted Sterling at a young age and had him in the building at Fulham about to sign - until Liverpool swooped at the last minute to steal him away. SImmonds also spotted Dembele in Holland and suggested him to Hodgson (who said no) but Hughes said yes.

What seems positive from the Fulham signings is they have been prepared to look at ''unfashionable'' countries for players and have done very well on a limited budget (Al Fayed stopped putting money into the club a few seasons before he sold up). They have also had one of the best youth scouting systems in England for a while and much of that was set up by Simmonds.

Many Fulham fans are upset he has left after a falling out with Magath (who appears to have signed Mitroglou against his advice if you believe some of their fans). They are also upset their scout has jumped ship to a rival in pre-season; imagine the uproar on here if Norwich lost their chief scout to Fulham a month before the season starts...
